Anyway, I just hope it helps to know there are other people out there that really do know how it feels, and you aren’t ‘weird’ or ‘different’ for feeling these things (not to diminish it at all, just because I know it makes you feel like you’re an awful isolated person for feeling that way). Hang in there x Just depressed, I quit drugs and alcohol, I exercise 5x a week and eat well as they said that would help my depression. Still depressed, just don’t have as many crazy episodes, just more of a flatline of constant depression and loneliness, enjoy the Trying to Understand Some People is Like Trying to Smell the Color 9 T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this pub, talk to some strangers for me Quitting drugs and alcohol and regularly exercising is just a helpful platform to get you to where you need to be to start. It’s not going to make you happy and get you a partner by itself. But well done for doing it and it WILL help. The next stage is the important one! May I humbly suggest 2 things: firstly, start doing things regularly that you know you enjoy; go see a great film, binge watch a TV series over the weekend, and focus on yourself and enjoying it by yourself without feeling guilty or depressed.

Second, make a plan by imagining a friend in your situation, and you giving them advice. Enjoy this process!! Think of practical suggestions for them. Here’s one! Your ‘friend’ exercises 5x a week, but is that alone? If so then suggest exercise as part of a group, e.g. join a rowing club! Include in this plan suggestions to try new things, both things by yourself and also as a part of a group. Don’t overcommit to these, if the Trying to Understand Some People is Like Trying to Smell the Color 9 T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this medieval reinactment group doesn’t work out just move on. I do the friend thing! I will literally say out loud “what are we going to do about X” and get my mine thinking plans of action and the steps needed to get there. Do you have any other interests ? I’m not saying this is going to cure anything but they can make life a bit more … interesting. Maybe just sit down and brainstorm a bit anything you’ve ever thought was cool or really wanted to try. I understand the flatline thing, maybe try and do something new in your routine or maybe break it a bit for a day to try something new. I used to be really strict with my exercise I do the same 5x a week but I took a day off to try and gymnastics class and it was quite fun and new. Just spitballing here. I’ve never been sporty, so that doesn’t appeal to me personally. I tried climbing as everyone seems to love it. I didn’t enjoy it, so I gave that up.
