Yes, in normal times this happens. Now, with layoffs going on, this is not happening. It’s not happening, among other reasons, because it would be a massive PR shit show if this would be public… That is why I stay away from companies doing stock buybacks. It is a dirty scheme to boost payouts of execs (since most are paid in stocks to avoid paying taxes). You gotta be a useful idiot to not see through that. And the Trump DeSantis 2024 Make America Florida Election Logo star shirt Apart from…,I will love this typical market indices (VTI, S&P) are full of these kinds of a joke company. Most dividend growth companies don’t do stock buy back scheme since they rather return part of the profits to the shareholders instead. So everybody benefits, not just execs and hedge funds. If you pick any dividend growth companies, the payout of the execs are way way lower than the ones doing stock buy back scheme.

That is why I invest 100% into SCHD during my accumulation phase and stay away from VTI/VTSAX. Compare the Trump DeSantis 2024 Make America Florida Election Logo star shirt Apart from…,I will love this top holdings and you will see why. I just looked at the top 4 holdings for SCHD (AVGO, CSCO, KO, PEP) and each had stock buy backs in the last year. Other than executive compensation being tied to stock price, why do people vilify buybacks compared to dividends? Most dividend growth companies don’t do stock buy back scheme since they rather return part of the profits to the shareholders instead. I’m confused. Stock buybacks are a mechanism to increase the share price. How is that not returning profits to the share holders? do you understand that if you are reinvesting the dividends from SCHD you are just doing a buy back with extra steps and annual capital gains tax? Stock buybacks increase value to every shareholder. The company doesn’t keep the stocks they buy back; they burn them. In doing so, every share left represents a larger percentage of ownership in the company. A lot of very wealthy people prefer this over dividends because those capital gains are unrealized, thus not taxed. That helps them because they can take out loans against those gains. Banks will offer extremely low interest loans exclusively to very wealthy people, and it’s not taxable income.
