Having a partner didn’t do anything for my accountability because we just enable each other since we just want to see the Surprised Patrick Ugly shirt in other words I will buy this other person happy. What did help is hiring a personal trainer. Having someone paid to be accountable for me is the only thing that has worked. Which is messed up because I realize just how privileged using money to buy accountability is, but that’s America I guess. Eventuallly I decide I should finally go to the gym and I end up sore af and the rest of week is even more miserable at work. Then I just quit and don’t go again until a few months later. (Now return to this start of this post) I’ll never forgive my body for fucking me over. I’d had a great workout routine going, had lost almost 100 pounds and was feeling amazing, accomplishing all of my goals. Summer of 2019 I had to get a surgery thar left me unable to do anything even mildly strenuous. “No worries,” I think. “Two months to recover and I’ll be back to it.” Except my issue recurred. So December I’m back in for another surgery. This point it’s been six months and I’ve started putting weight back on but I’m still optimistic that once I’ve recovered I’ll get back to it. Well I finally recovered enough to start going to the gym again. Just in time for the pandemic to start and the gym I used to get shut down. I’m sure I could have made it work but at that point my depression got the better of me and years later I’ve regained all the weight I lost and then some and lost all the muscle I’d put on too.

I do still plan to get back into it especially now that I’m in a better place mentally but God was that string of events really demoralizing.
