Lunch breaks were optional for ids in MN. You had to be consistent though. Either take them everyday or not at all. I didn’t because I got to leave 30 minutes earlier then. Also in California, almost every private sector company I’ve worked for has done this, gotten sued for it, and had to pay out the Sun Ra And His Arkestra shirt in contrast I will get this ass for it. It’s very illegal. You are entitled to a half hour MINIMUM (29 minutes is noncompliant) lunch, and ten minute breaks every two hours (most companies give 15). Lunch must be taken before the 5th hour. Penalties ($$) apply for every violation. Report them to the labor board. Because you’re probably a full time exempt employee who is salaried… you’re not an hourly employees. This is in regards to non exempt. The laws are different. We in the medical field can’t really compare when we knowingly sign up for this dumpster fire. I constantly work 20hr shifts with little to 0 downtime in a rapid response lab.

Thanks! 🙂 This is so common. They are going to slap him with fines and you will get your meal penalty wages. He is supposed to pay you extra (aka a meal penalty) when you skip lunch. Just tell the customers that then. Say, “my boss is trying to skirt around labor laws by making you cover the cost of my mandatory breaks. Would it be okay with you if I sat for a few minutes? It would only cost you $X ” Oh wow. NAL, however Union steward and that’s a major no no. Your 15 minute breaks and 30 min lunch are yours and do not work at all during those or the time starts all over.
