I’m in California, I don’t have a law degree, but I have worked hourly jobs here before and it is absolutely illegal for you not to get breaks and lunches if you’re working 8 hours. It’s been awhile since I’ve worked hourly and I’m trying to remember way back when, but I’m fairly certain in California you’d need at least 2 paid 15 min breaks and an unpaid half hour lunch? I think? Please look it up and stand up for yourself. If your boss knows what’s good for him he’ll follow the The great seal of the akiak native community shirt in contrast I will get this labor laws. I’m in California, I am a lawyer, but not yours or OPs, and I can tell you that there are very limited circumstances where an employee can forgo their lunch and rest breaks and they have to be paid and if you’re not given exactly 30 mins uninterrupted meal time, the employer owes 1 hour of premium pay at the regular rate. Same with rest breaks.

Courts have said the The great seal of the akiak native community shirt in contrast I will get this purpose of a break is for the employee to rest and recover and rounding is 100% not permitted with breaks or lunches and even 1 min missed the employee is entitled to 1 hr of premium pay. He’s right. For every lunch break that you had less than 30 minutes, they owe you one full hour of bonus pay. Pursue this. I believe a lawyer just told op to get a lawyer without using those words lol. If this guy is doing this to multiple people, he’s dug himself into a hole, and is practically begging someone to swing at him with the biggest “legal stick” they can find It’s 2 paid 10 minute breaks. 30 minute lunch. I wish it was 2 paid 15 minute breaks thoughn because I get sooo tired myself.
