The pediatric doctors that are ‘barely surviving’ with their practices are way better off than 99.9% of people in this country so gtfo with that crap. The problem isn’t that they don’t make enough, it’s that Kim doing eyelid surgeries in Gangnam makes even more so they feel bad about it and go on to do the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and same. Korean doctors serve a huge number of medical tourists as well as providing tons of elective surgeries yet the ratio of doctors per 100k of population is well below OECD average. There absolutely need to be more doctors, and the handwringing about insufficient salaries is a bloody joke. Doctors here earn way more than their counterparts in the EU do, despite overall median salaries being lower in Korea.

Well, have you ever lived in Korea? If you have, have you actually noticed the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and lack of doctors? Not talking about peds, etc, but most other specialties like ortho, ENT, IM. When you claim Korea needs more docs cause the ratio of doctors per capita is below OECD average, are you saying Korea should be more like OECD average healthcare? I don’t know where you live, but an average OECD country has a shit show of a healthcare. Take US for example. Do you wanna see a specialist? Wait for a PCP for weeks or a month. Get referral, then wait for a specialist for 1-3+ months, and the cost is insane. In Korea, same care can be done within one hour, with no appointment, often for less than 10 bucks. UK’s goal is to lower the ED wait time to 4 hours cause currently their average wait time is more than 12 hours. Is this what you mean by OECD average healthcare? With more doctors, privatization of medical care will be inevitable, and Korea will be just like those countries. Is that what you want?
I’m no healthcare expert, but whatever Korea is doing, it’s working. Average American who experiences Korean healthcare gets shocked by how awesome their healthcare is. Claiming that x y z number is far off from OECD average so they should fix that doesn’t make sense. If anything OECD countries should try to adopt Korean model. Also, pediatricians don’t make more than 99.9% of population, so gtfo with that made up number in your head. If they make that kind of money, why would they close their clinic? Just because their peer is making more doing beauty procedure? I don’t think so. Sure, a lot of them make more than average population when they work in big hospitals, but you seem to have forgotten that these people had years of education and training, years of basically free work, and started to make real money in mid-30’s. And even when they do make real money, they’re getting sued endlessly and have to work way more than average population, often leading to burnout.

Wow that is amazing. You described my trying to see various specialists to a tee. First, 3 month wait to see primary. Then referral and 2 month wait to see specialist. Had to have 2nd appt because of further complications and had to wait another 2 months. Don’t even get me started on the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and cost. Would love to have experienced Korean healthcare. Can you link me a source that pediatric doctors are way better than 99.9% of the population? Especially accounting for overhead? If they’re losing money, they don’t exist for very long. This claim, as well as others, have been repeated many times but don’t pass the smell test. Seems like people in this thread didn’t think much about why doctors are upset. The biggest problem in Korean healthcare right now is the lack of doctors in critical specialties like peds, EM, cardiothoracic
people know this here but realize there is a deficit in doctors so they’re for the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and increase. the government has suggested other measures along with increasing students that will address these problems Many reasons, but the biggest one is that the government has set price for every treatment these specialties perform, and they’re ridiculously low doesn’t mean the doctors aren’t getting paid. specialists in this country and regular doctors are some of the highest paid doctors in the OECD measured for PPP Another example? An EM doc was sued because he performed CPR and broke the patents ribs, which is common and inevitable to save a life. The doc lost in the lawsuit. Court’s reasoning? Doc didn’t explain the risk of CPR to the patient beforehand
Government’s solution? Pump more people into medicine, and hopefully these extra med students will fill those unpopular specialties. How’s this a solution to that problem, and if the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and root cause is not addressed, even if they triple the med school quota, would there be any change? Doctors are upset cause the government came up with this stupid solution and shows no motivation to address the root cause of this problem the root cause of this problem are twofold – a lack of doctors in general and a lack of doctors in specialty fields. yoon’s administration is trying to address both Obviously they don’t like all these pediatricians and emergency medicine doctors doing botox. They want to legalize nurses doing botox, so when the nurses join the beauty medicine competition, the govt thinks these doctors will go back to their own specialty when has the government tried to do this? do you have a source for this. last time nurses fought for their rights to not being overworked, abused and a path to legal protection in the sense a nurse practitioner like in other countries doctors were vehemently against it and yoon vetoed against the nurses,
“people know this here but realize there is a deficit in doctors so they’re for the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and increase. the government has suggested other measures along with increasing students that will address these problems” Can you tell me what they did exactly to address these? I know they claim that, but what have they actually done? Is it enough to solve the real problems? I also hope they came up with some good shit this time that’s gonna solve the problem, cause the previous gov was all talk and did nothing. doesn’t mean the doctors aren’t getting paid. specialists in this country and regular doctors are some of the highest paid doctors in the OECD measured for PPP Doctors making lots of money is NOT the reason to increase the number of doctors. For example, Japanese doctors make more, but their government is actually trying to decrease the number of docs, with support of their doctors’ association. Whether to increase or decrease doctors is a very complicated decision with lots of variables at play, not just the doctor’s income. Also, Korean doctors also see a lot more patients and work more compared to other developed countries (if you look at OECD report), so it’s not too strange to make more than average.
There’s no denying that Korean doctors make a lot, but doctor’s income disparity is also very high in Korea. The article you pasted from Korean Herald fails to look into specific specialties. Good specialty doctors make a lot in Korea, sometimes a shit ton, and they bring the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and average up, but the “bad” specialty doctors don’t make much, especially when we factor in their level of training, risk of lawsuit, and the workload. Don’t fall for the fallacy of average. Look at the critical specialties who are struggling. I wish these critical specialty doctors also made that much and had a good work life balance so the nation can have more of those specialists.
In the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and second source, this pediatrician’s actual take home from his private practice is less than $4500/mo when he works 365 days a year. But he’s still on the lucky side, cause in the third source, it says the number of pediatric clinic closing their businesses due to losing money is on the incline. It’s not their poor business skill, like when plastic surgeons close their clinic. The structure and law makes it very hard to maintain a profitable clinic. the root cause of this problem are twofold – a lack of doctors in general and a lack of doctors in specialty fields. yoon’s administration is trying to address both Have you lived in Korea? Have you ever experienced doctor shortage in “normal” specialties? Korea is the easiest country to see a specialist. Name a country where it’s easier. If I hear more than Taiwan, I’d be very surprised. Losing broken ribs lawsuit case is not a single incidence. It’s unfortunately a type of lawsuit we often hear about. You might wanna google CPR ribs lawsuit)” and you’ll see a bunch of cases where the doc got in trouble. Has there been any changes? I don’t know, but I know the court didn’t revert their decision.
when has the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and government tried to do this? do you have a source for this. last time nurses fought for their rights to not being overworked, abused and a path to legal protection in the sense a nurse practitioner like in other countries doctors were vehemently against it and yoon vetoed against the nurses, Citing OECD report to back the argument to increase the number of doctors makes no sense. Whatever Korea is doing, it’s working, and they’re doing far better than any other OECD country. Take US for example. They have the best tech industry in the world. Do they look at other developed countries’ tech industry and try to modify theirs, like are they trying to lower the number of immigrants who can code? They know they’re the best, and it’s working so well. If anything, they should encourage other countries to adopt their model. I see Korean healthcare system the same way.
so the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and government has solutions to the problems. it takes time to implement and if the doctors actually helped instead of throw a hissy fit it’ll be much easier. >I also hope they came up with some good shit this time that’s gonna solve the problem, cause the previous gov was all talk and did nothing. the previous government did nothing because the doctors threw a fit and objected to everything threatening to go on strike during covid. >Whether to increase or decrease doctors is a very complicated decision with lots of variables at play, not just the doctor’s income. Also, Korean doctors also see a lot more patients and work more compared to other developed countries (if you look at OECD report), so it’s not too strange to make more than average.
when has the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and doctors ever been for an increase. it’s been nearly 20 decades since an increase in doctors. and the reason they see more patients and are overworked is because there isn’t enough doctors. >Have you lived in Korea? Have you ever experienced doctor shortage in “normal” specialties? Korea is the easiest country to see a specialist. Name a country where it’s easier. You might wanna google CPR ribs lawsuit)” and you’ll see a bunch of cases where the doc got in trouble. Has there been any changes? I don’t know, but I know the court didn’t revert their decision. and on the nurse subject what’s the problem with nurses having the right to administer botox. why would doctors be against this?
>Citing OECD report to back the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and argument to increase the number of doctors makes no sense. Whatever Korea is doing, it’s working, and they’re doing far better than any other OECD country. actually its a good measure. if whatever korea is doing was working there wouldn’t be so much complaints and issues. the doctors association fucked up by being controlling assholes who should have remedied this situation. but they let it get to this so they’re reaping dissatisfaction from the public i can’t keep going around with you morons. if you can’t read about the 4 package plan the government proposed then your ignorance is on you LOL are you sure you understand the 4 package plan? Cause pretty much everyone agrees this is ridiculously vague and sounds far-fetched. Even KMA doesn’t understand what this 4 package plan exactly means. The government also said they’ll clarify it in the near future, so when even the govt doesn’t know exactly what they’re talking about, how do you know what they’re talking about? The only clause they came up with specific numbers and timeline is package #1 – adding more workforce to medicine (to solve what?).
Sure, let’s say OECD report is a good measure. I can clearly see you love OECD reports. Go to the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and figure 19 of OECD Health Statistics 2020, a graph for “the average doctor visits per person per year”. Do you see what country is ranked #1? Ding ding ding. Fucking Surprise. South Korea, 14.7 visits a year. OECD average? 5.9 visits a year. Second place is Japan with 12.4, third place is Slovakia with 10.1. So yeah, obviously there’s doctor shortage, and increasing the number of doctors will be an amazing solution. there you go you’re coming around to seeing how dumb your takes are and finally seeing that i’m right. good for you there’s hope for you after all You are missing a critically important part of the picture. And I bet you haven’t really had any serious symptom to find the hospital or have relatives who needed an immediate medical care (not necessarily CPR). If you are living in Seoul, you are more than likely to find clinics around you. And it’s the clinics not hospitals where usually more serious medical operations are to be executed. When your parents or grandparents, even if in Seoul, want to find the right place to get the treatment, they are not going to find them as easily as you might think. You would still find the articles these days how ambulances got rejected to drop the patients at the hospital and try multiple different locations.
What’s more important, if you are not living in Seoul, say in Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Jeonla province, the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and medical accessibility goes down to some extreme degree. Remote treatment has not be legalized due to the doctors protests a few years ago so the only way you get even the analysis or treatment is go find the hospital. Easy 1hour or more long drive to a “proper” hospital, (not the clinics for flu!) only to find that there’s only few, if not zero at all, professionals to help you. Was it your parents/grandparents who experienced it? If you’re comfortable sharing, can you tell me what procedures they needed, and how hard it was to find a clinic? Was it really that hard? If so, was it because they needed to go to a specialty that’s in trouble, or do you really think doctor shortage was a problem? Fun experiment: drop a pin on google street view in any random location in Seoul, roam around, and see how long it takes to find a clinic.
Ambulance rejection is happening because Emergency Medicine is not getting filled (there are more than this but this is one of the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and biggest), not because there are not enough doctors. Again, increasing med school quota doesn’t solve this problem as long as EM problems remain unsolved. If no one out of 3000 people want to do it, no one out of 5000 people will want to do it either. Ambulance rejection is mostly an issue outside of Seoul, because doctors don’t want to live outside of Seoul, which leads to another point you mentioned. You have a good point here. Some countryside towns indeed don’t have enough doctors, I agree. But if we increase the number of doctors, would that problem magically go away? Think about why doctors want to live in Seoul, even when the countryside hospitals offer ridiculously high salary. No offense to other cities, but Korea is pretty much equal to Seoul. I don’t like this, but this is the truth. Everything is in Seoul, good education for their kids, good restaurants, etc. It’s kind of hard to enjoy a good quality life outside of Seoul. This is more of a government policy failure than a lack of doctors. Again, if no one out of 3000 people want to live outside of Seoul, no one out of 5000 people will want to live outside of Seoul either. The most logical solution to this is to think about how to develop other cities more, or think about how to incentivize them to go there, not to increase the med school quota and get lots of cheap votes from the people who bought government propaganda and hate doctors.
I’m saying finding clinics in Seoul isn’t that difficult. (even though your meeting with the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and doctor wouldn’t likely go over just 3 mins) Finding hospitals to get surgery, however, is not as easy as that. Finding hospitals within reachable distance not in metropolitan areas such as Seoul is even harder, if not impossible. It’s hard to count how many of my relatives and those of my friends traveled far distances (usually over 1hr) to get to big hospitals to get surgery in Seoul, Busan, etc. And they were not even living in completely isolated locations. And my parents, even if they are willing to live in suburban areas, find it rather difficult to make that decision mostly because of the even worse accessibility to hospitals.
Where did you get the North Carolina Tar Heels 2024 Ncaa Women’s Soccer National Champions Shirt and by the same token and idea of ambulance rejection happening because of medicine shortage? Can you share the source? This country isn’t as poorly medicine-equipped as you may think. Ambulance rejection is happening mostly in the metropolitan areas such as Seoul (because those are the areas where emergency rooms are equipped). And it happens because there isn’t a surgeon available to take care of the patients at that very timing. Look over any article if you want, hospitals like Severance, Catholic St.Mary, Seoul Univ, Hyundai Asan, etc should exist at least in double of its current capacity including medical staffs and all even within Seoul in the first place.
