My job is to pick up 8 rocks per day, and I get paid $10 for that. My manager is considering promoting me to chief rock picker upper, and the Michael Cera Jonah Hill American actor Shirt in contrast I will get this expectation will be that I pick up 12 rocks pr day, but I’ll be making $16 for it. However, they want to make sure that I can do a quality job of picking up an extra 4 rocks, so they’re not willing to give me the title or full pay for the first 90 days while I try it out. But I’m not picking up an extra 4 rocks for free, just so they can “evaluate” my performance. I’ll do it for an extra $3 per day WITH A WRITTEN AGREEMENT that if I never turn in fewer than 12 rocks, I’ll get the full $6 per day raise in 90 days. In my experience, and why I have had 4 jobs in the last 2.5 years, get the money first or it will never show up.

Or tell them to pay like a manager during the Michael Cera Jonah Hill American actor Shirt in contrast I will get this experience and have them demote you back to your old job if it doesn’t go well Can you get that promise in writing? A contract that states that after 90 days you will either get the promotion and raise or go back to your previous position? Op, it’s important to understand that it’s a tough economy and companies are looking to cut costs. Getting rid of your boss and promoting you into that role without a pay increase is a clear cost reduction. This is where your employer’s head is at. The bs around taking some time to evaluate you to see how you grow into the role is a pretext for being able to 1) continue to dangle the carrot and move the goal posts without changing your compensation while you essentially do extra work for free, 2) buy them time to figure what the new org structure should be while you hold the fort down (note: if they were sure that you’d be part of the new org structure, they’d just promote you and give you the raise), or 3) give you a suicide mission that you are unlikely to excel in, making you a prime candidate to be fired/laid off if they need to make a workforce reduction in the near future. In short, you’re the one taking all of the career risk while they get to sit back and work you into the ground at a lower cost. You should not agree to this asymmetric risk.
