There are multiple types of intelligence. Those who sort out how to match their learning style to academic systems will do well in these. My partner and I are exactly like this. He barely passed high school and hasn’t read a book in years. But his practical skills and common sense are extremely sharp. He’s also able to get along with people easily, has a quick sense of humor, and can memorize directions super fast. I’ve always been able to do well in school, read 2-3 books a month and I have multiple degrees but wouldn’t survive a day on my own. I have only worked minimum wage jobs because of my useless majors while he makes enough money to support himself with different blue collar type jobs. This probably has something to do with our drastically different upbringings. He grew up working class with immigrant parents and was working full time by 16. I had a typical suburban upper middle class upbringing with strict parents who wouldn’t let me work and prioritized school above all else. Idk if your situation is similar to this Julio Urias At Last Mexican professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt in contrast I will get this whatsoever but I thought I’d share it in case someone can relate.

Julio Urias At Last Mexican professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

One of the Julio Urias At Last Mexican professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt in contrast I will get this smartest people I’ve ever met is absolutely useless at day to day tasks. When it comes to academics and IT work, he’s brilliant. If you’re trying to coordinate a series of tasks – like being in place X at 10 AM, pick up something at place Y and head to place Z by noon, he’s going to be in place Z at 1 PM with none of the stuff he needed from place Y. The idea of him working with power tools is terrifying. My buddy is smart as shit but an absolute mess when it comes to home and personal upkeep. Energy and smarts are allocated to very specific things for him School is a very defined and structured system. It often doesn’t take innovative thinking or creativity, because you’re just supposed to do the work and meet the checkpoints that have been mapped out. Then there are some people who are extremely good at one specific arena of study or work. That’s why a lot of us who almost flunked out of high school hit our stride in college. The prof was like read these 10 books and write one twenty page paper on a topic or theory that has something to do with the books. Your grade is based on that one paper. Those honors kids in high school then say, “but what do you want me to write about?”
