Whenever a full time employee is on government assistance the In August We Wear Purple Rainbow Overdose Awareness Day T-Shirt Besides,I will do this government should fine said corporation at least 1.5 times the cost of the assistance. I’m tired of corporate welfare. The concept of food stamps was first introduced by the secretary of agriculture in the late 1930s. The intent was to help buy up surplus food goods through the consumers. In other words it originated as an agricultural subsidy program with the convenient side effect of feeding hungry people. The program ended in the mid 40s. This was again part of the driving impetus in the 60s when another program was introduced, to increase the consumption of perishable goods. Things changed somewhat in the 80s as recognition of hunger became more centralized to the policy. While this may seem like a more ideal linkage, one of the outcomes was that it became increasingly unpopular, and by the late 90s early 2000s there was a massive push to link welfare like foodstamps to “laziness,” rather than what they historically where a safety net for the consumption of goods. This has resulted in increased restriction on what can be purchased with stamps/snap, often times things that actually DONT stimulate local agricultural economy, and different kinds of labor related means testing. By doing this, we individualize the moral burden for something that is actually a societal safety-net.

Yup. Those companies are privatizing the In August We Wear Purple Rainbow Overdose Awareness Day T-Shirt Besides,I will do this profits and socializing the risks. It’s ridiculous that taxpayers have to carry these parasites. Doesn’t Walmart one of the nation’s if not the nation’s largest employer have a high percentage of their employees on welfare? A corporations inherent definition/desire is to work employees to death and pay them as little as possible (preferably $0). So the “right thing” for the government by definition should be forcing a reasonable wage for employees at the expense of the corporations profit. It should be mathematically impossible to work full time (or even like 30-35 a week) and also get food stamps. It simply means the minimum wage hasn’t properly been adjusted. While in the Marines I discovered my family was eligible to receive food stamps. When my command found out that I was receiving them they freaked out and made me go to multiple money management courses and I got lectured about it by my entire chain of command all the way up to my squadron CO. I ended up telling them that regardless of how well I managed my money, if I’m eligible for a benefit that the government offers then I’m taking it. Good for you, sir. I hate thinking about all the folks out there that are eligible for SNAP, Medicaid, cash assistance, etc., but are not applying for the programs due to some stigma of receiving government assistance. The thing is that most of these programs are federally funded and the money then goes to the residents of your state, and then feeds into the local economy. It benefits the families, the local businesses, and the entire state for more people to receive the assistance from the government. Meanwhile in Florida I don’t make enough to move out of my parents’ into a studio apartment, but I make too much to be eligible for food stamps.
