My parents charged me fairly, which was basically just my share of the I&39;m tired of waking up and not being in USA T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this bills, some money to cover food so i didn’t have to do my own shop, and then like an extra £150 to pay for the room, which was cheap but basically just as way to help me learn to budget. The rest of my money, I was encouraged to save as much as I could, to build up a pot, and also to learn to save. I had friends who were charged what was basically the going market rate of renting a room… they had much less money than me when living at home, they saved less, and they felt less at home and moved out earlier. I moved out in a reasonable amount of time to rent a place of my own, just to become a real adult, 10 years later and I’ve just moved into a wonderful farm house with my girlfriend, and I’m loving life.

Some of my friends parents, tried to make a profit from like a landlord in their own family home, now have their 30 year old kids living at home with them, because without any significant savings built up, it’s very very very hard to buy a home these days. TLDR: Charge them as little as you can, whilst still teaching them things cost money. Save for them if you want, or teach them to save.
