I quit after I came back from my birthday weekend. Also found out that coworker was going to the I Don’t Crash I Stop With Style Mountain Biking shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this same concert as me in May. I didn’t get to goto the festival in may and my peer kept telling me to call in sick. She’s the one that got approved and was actually going to same festival lol. I didn’t call out bc I got scared for a minute. But said fuck them when June came around. “I told you what I wanted, you said ‘it would be ok’. I have made plans. Now you are saying ‘it’s not ok’. That is not ok. My plans are not changing.” Yea! Provided that your family wouldn’t be significantly impacted in a negative manner, I agree with your plan 100%. Reasonable to me. Depending on which state you live in, this could be grounds for termination. Nonetheless, it’s still the right thing to do. You need to have boundaries as well as balance. Moreover, management has a responsibility to create clear answers to the questions about approval. Boss should have said no if that was what the answer was going to be. Just take it, if they are a shitty company they’ll have a problem with it. If they aren’t / they’re desperate for help they won’t care. something similar happened to me except it was for a wedding and the day of the wedding they called me and said they needed help I told them I could come in for a few hours but then I had to leave cause I had a wedding to go to. Time came for me to leave they threatened to fire me.. i was a teenager at the time and I was working at Mac Donald’s first job… I remember walking out telling my dad they fired me and he went in and gave the manager a ear full … “I gave months of notice, well within the requirement. Changing my trip now would cause damages in the realm tens of thousands. Is the company willing to cover those damages?”

It is laughable that you would even consider not going on your vacation given what you’ve explained. Fuck that unreasonable and ridiculous employer. The days of missing life events for a company who wouldn’t even blink if you dropped dead are long over. I quit my job 2 years ago over a situation similar. We were heading to Disney World for the I Don’t Crash I Stop With Style Mountain Biking shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this first time ever. I promise you won’t regret it, but you will if you stay back or cancel it. I mean, you can. Sure. The time to push back , really, was when she said “i can’t tell you until the week before” – people can’t plan vacations like that. The company should have a policy, e.g. “up to X people can get PTO off on a first come first served basis and after that it’s manager discretion” and then you can say “well, I was one of the first X, so…”
