As someone who has decided to stay single forever and not to marry and adopt kids, how have you been preparing for old age ( read life after 60 )? Also how do you deal with loneliness.In my teens and early twenties I really wanted that romantic fantasy, of having someone to fall in love with, cherish and enjoy years together. In my late twenties I was becoming more interested in having SOMEONE period, regardless of long-term relationship goals. Now that I’ve celebrated turning 25 for a fifth time, I’ve realised I prefer my independence and solitary existence than as part of a couple. If someone comes along that’s worth the time, I’m sure we could figure out an amenable situation but I’ve stopped actively chasing for a person and have reconciled with the fact that I’m most likely to lead a life of singledom. I moved to Canada three years ago, and since then have been slowly adding to my savings (apart from the pension that is paid into with my work), and I do have a wee bit of pension in India as well from having worked my early twenties in a bank. My plan is to buy a little cottage/cabin away from the city here in Canada and work till I’m like 60. Then, depending on the savings I think I want to take a break and spend a year away from people and just write, travel and read. And once the body starts to go (my family tends to do well till their late 80s) I either will enrol myself in a seniors home here, or find me a cute little place back home in the mountains of Idukki and hire help to look after me. Whatever’s left after I die will be left to my nephew.

I’m only looking in towns away from the You call it a shopping addiction I call it stimulating the economy T-Shirt in contrast I will get this GTA. That helps. Like, I’m currently working in a town called Kapuskasing which is some five hours from Sudbury. Houses between 150k to 400k are available here, and similarly in Timmins. That sounds good too. I prefer the deadly cold of Ontario to be honest. I’m thinking of going on a few roadtrips around Canada in the years to come to gauge other small towns and see what I like. I’d still need places where at least Amazon can bring my spices that I need to make my Biryanis and appams. If I can learn enough French, maybe Québec. Hell, I love the sea so Nova Scotia could be an option too. Was in Nova Scotia for 3 years, Really beautiful place and people , Had to leave because unavailability of jobs Aaah. I work in a salaried position at Walmart at present, so I’m not too worried about job security and availability of a position. Remoter locations are easier to move into as fewer people, especially international, consider those locations. I would definitely spend a week in NS just to get the vibes.
