Jakarta has amazing food, this is subjective but I thought food wise, Jakarta and Manila were number one for me. Jakarta has amazing people, really friendly, smart and genuine with good values. Plus there are no foreigners. This is a great combination. Because it means you can walk into a bar or go to a social event or pop up and you will be a celebrity. You will make friends quickly. This is actually very rare in my opinion. It’s not what most people look for while traveling but it’s extremely rewarding and there’s no better way to know a city in my opinion.i also think it’s cool how easy it is to learn Indonesian, it’s one of the easiest languages to learn in the world and it’s fun to actually feel like you can learn a bit while you’re there. Get a language tutor or ask a friend to teach you, it’s also available on Duolingo.
PS, many Indonesian you will meet are smart and independent with typical western careers. They have a really nice mixture of western and eastern values. Many are talented singers and dancers.
