122 more replies You already proposed the Vintage 70s Rock Concert The Rolling Stones The Vibrations poster T-Shirt but in fact I love this best solution: ask your boss if you can move the project up a week, do as much as you can, and go on your scheduled vacation. That way you’re being flexible without being a pushover. If your boss refuses, oh well. There are other employees there who can handle a project for a week. TOO FUCKING BAD FOR THEM. They had plenty of time to deal with this before it became a problem. Now watch, they’re gonna blame you for their incompetence. They can fire you for any reason outside of being a part of a protected class. That being said, it depends on the policies of the company and how valuable to them you are. If they fire you, you have a potential lawsuit depending on the state you are in. In some states, unused vacation time needs to be paid out, and counts as unpaid wages if not.

If your boss is going to cancel your vacation that he should pay all of reservation fees, cancellation fees and all other associated costs he has caused. Inform them you are going. You have them ample time. If you’re good at your job you can find another if you do get fired. Please stop going the Vintage 70s Rock Concert The Rolling Stones The Vibrations poster T-Shirt but in fact I love this extra mile unless you’re being paid for it, employers will take advantage of it. Want to go the extra mile and not get paid go volunteer at the animal shelter or soup kitchen not your job. “Sounds like that’s really important. Hope you have people lined up to work on it because I’m not going to be here. Oh, you want me to work on it? Welp, either move up the start dates or expect it to get done when I get back because I’m not going to be here.” Whoever the stakeholders are on the project that needs to be delivered, he should have seen that there would be a resource shortage (i.e. you would not be available) and alerted the stakeholder months ago that the project due date would need to move. If the stakeholders knew in Q1 that a July project would move back or up by 2 weeks, they probably would have no issue with it. Finding out in June that a July project has to move by 2 weeks, on the other hand, is probably not acceptable.
