I have heard of that. I was a curious child and always wondered why they add minerals and impurities and was shocked when I learned we can’t actually taste pure water. Also why cats don’t like Brita filtered water because there’s a bunch of additives when it’s “filtered” that they can taste and it doesn’t taste like “water” to them I’d like to point out zebra stripes. If anyone can tell me what they’re for without googling it, I’d be mildly surprised. Zebra stripes interfere with the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this vision of biting flies, making it hard for them to successfully land on zebras and bite them. I used to think some predators were colorblind and those stripes’d confuse the crap out of ’em, but that’d make sense if there were a lot more species used those colors for the same reason. The fly thing was a funny surprise.
Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt: Show Your Love with Style
The question is though why are zebras the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this only animal that have similar stripes? It’s a fairly simple thing to evolve even if you can’t see them most animals have them. It’s actually a bit of a mystery why zebras have stripes exactly. There are some ideas out there but nothing concrete and nothing that can explain the above point. Essentially doubles the protective ability of a herd – the whole point of a herd is to defend each individual by combining them into a single entity. Predators then have to try to single one out. The stripes make them all blend together and makes it far harder to target an individual Okay I actually did a little more googling. Apparently the fly hypothesis seems to be the current favored idea, and that there’s something weird about zebras that extenuates this affect. But it’s still far from settled and every study I found with evidence for one idea(including this idea) had studies with the exact opposite conclusion.
The adaptive significance of zebra stripes has thus far eluded understanding. Many explanations have been suggested, including social cohesion, thermoregulation, predation evasion and avoidance of biting flies. … As this association between striping and temperature may be indicative of multiple biological processes, we suggest that the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this selective agents driving zebra striping are probably multifarious and complex. The study it’s self found that thermoregulation may be responsible but this one seems to have the exact opposite conclusion. The best-supported hypothesis for why zebras have stripes is that stripes repel biting flies. While this effect is well-established, the mechanism behind it remains elusive. Myriad hypotheses have been suggested, but few experiments have helped narrow the field of possible explanations. In addition, the complex visual features of real zebra pelage and the natural range of stripe widths have been largely left out of experimental designs. In paired-choice field experiments in a Kenyan savannah, we found that hungry Stomoxys flies released in an enclosure strongly preferred to land on uniform tan impala pelts over striped zebra pelts but exhibited no preference between the pelts of the zebra species with the widest stripes and the narrowest stripes. Our findings confirm that zebra stripes repel biting flies under naturalistic conditions and do so at close range (suggesting that several of the mechanisms hypothesized to operate at a distance are unnecessary for the fly-repulsion effect) but indicate that interspecific variation in stripe width is associated with selection pressures other than biting flies.

More about this Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt
Humans have a wickedly strong sense of smell, even compared to other apex predators. A human can smell fresh water at something like 100 parts per trillion. I think honestly that while none of our senses are the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this absolute best out of any animal, the fact that all of them are at least pretty midrange and don’t totally suck is of great benefit in itself, and probably one of the things that makes us so adaptable. Insects have incredible senses, though. Many flies (diptera) can process images a lot faster than humans (250 flashes per second in a house fly compared to 60 flashes a second for humans), all the way through to dragonflies with the highest hunt success rate of any predator due to their insane visual processing. A huge number of insects see UV light or have really quite good low light vision or movement detection. Incredible senses of smell, such as pheromone detection in moths, can allow males to detect females kilometres away. Some migratory species navigate via magnetic fields of the Earth. Ants have very sophisticated olfactory systems (in addition to having some of the most complex social structures in the animal kingdom). There is a lot of biological sensory power packed into our small friends 🙂
Combining all our active senses, the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this brain that translates the signals and the fact that we can pass knowledge of our senses to those around us would make us bar none. I don’t need to do that, our hearing, smell, sight, touch may not all be the top of their game but those senses combined with our unmatched ability to problem solve makes us the best. Or why do I need to spot locate worms with my nose when I can just dig a large area and sift them out of the dirt. I think our senses are robust and translated by the most intelligent brain. Other animals just aren’t doing all this at the scale we can. I can see what you are saying, but this is sort of out of scope. The question was about physiological senses, not about cognition and how we process senses using cognitive ability. I’d also imagine there are plenty of other intelligent animals that are translating senses at our level (arguably cetaceans, who also have the added benefit of echolocation). I dont know of any papers on it, but I suspect humans have an above- average sense of proprioception. This is the sense that lets you know where all the different parts of your body are in space. Directional hearing – we’re pretty good at it. Excluding echo locators, we’re damn good at determining the direction a sound is coming from. People have been shown to use echolocation fairly effectively. There are even some sight impaired individuals who have learned to navigate this way quite reliably.
Our sense of touch is incredibly sensitive. We can distinguish differences at the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this level of a single layer of molecules. Maybe not exactly what you mean, but do any other mammals really have a sense of time? Humans have to be the most adept at sensing duration of events or how long something would take. Depends how you see it. A bacterium species has 3 billion years evolution behind it, the homo sapiens species only a few hundred thousand. Or consider something adapted to an extreme environment. Is it not well developed? It depends a lot on how you measure. As well as absolutes like visual resolution there are considerations like suitability for the environment. Humans are pretty good at augmenting their senses too, eg. can examine things from atoms to distant universes.
I don’t know how to quantify this but I’ve heard, and it’s obviously been observed but humans have excellent cardio and endurance… when we don’t take on sedentary lifestyles and have a good diet that is. Not many animals can run nearly as long as us without dropping dead. That also ties in with our ability to effectively regulate our body temperature. Our smelling ability has greatly diminished as implicated by our brain structure. Compared to other mammals its vastly inferior. yes, our smell and sight are pretty good, taste aswel (but i suppose it isnt the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this most helpful), but each animal’s senses (including humans) are refined for specific living conditions and situations. we aren’t the best at hearing but we’re not the worst either, and i’d say touch is a bit broad, i mean, some animals have extremely sensitive hairs on their body to detect movement around them, is that touch? i guess we’re ok at sensing things with our skin, idk how that compares to other animals though, we rely more on sight and hearing
You can develop your senses too! When I became a massage therapist, my proprioception went up tenfold. I see with my hands. Probably because of years of working in the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this dark with my eyes closed. Jedi status, here I come Yeah we have very good sights, just worse than some birds of prey and insects, but way better than most of the mammals. We have quite decent sense of smell too. It’s just modern culture dismisses the idea of smell, thinks it’s disgusting. Eyesight as in colours we are good at compared to many. Apart from that we are pretty shit with senses. We didn’t rely on them as heavily as other species so they weren’t selected for as much Well developed is a weird context because animals adapt to their environment. Eyesight is different in different lighting conditions or underwater. But yes, humans senses are pretty good. In general we have decent senses. Dogs of course sniff things out better but you can follow a scent, think about following the smell of fresh baked bread back to the kitchen. The human sense of smell is very possibly on the better end of animals in general, considering a great number of animals barely if at all even have what we’d consider olfactory senses (for instance, it is arguable whether any aquatic animals actually have a separate sense of smell at all, or just short-range and long-range taste senses, as taste and smell underwater blur together, but it is the long-range taste sensing structures in aquatic life that usually gives rise to aerial olfactory senses in terrestrial animals descended from them), but among mammals, our sense of smell is still definitely beat out by a lot of others, particular a lot of species in the order Carnivora (which includes dogs and cats), so just when comparing our olfactory ability among fellow mammals, it tends not to feel as impressive. I’d say, generally speaking, mammals have well-developed sense of smell among animals.
Our daytime vision is fairly good compared to other mammals, I’m not sure if it’s the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this “best”, per se, but it does definitely stand out when you consider that we have three color-sensing cones in our retinas (red, green, and blue), something we share with other primates, but from my understanding most other mammals only have two (blue and green, no red). However, outside of mammals, there are plenty of animals with more than three color receptors that easily put us to shame (mantis shrimp have 14!), with many also being able to see significantly into the infrared or ultraviolet spectra. We also have a relatively high density of cones, which gives us remarkable visual acuity during the day; again, it’s not necessarily among the best in the entire animal kingdom (compare the visual acuity of birds of prey like eagles, for instance), but it’s better than that of most other mammals. In contrast, a lot of other mammals like dogs or cats have significantly more rod cells in their retinas than we do, and thus have better night vision than us (among other reasons).
In general, I don’t think humans have any one sense that stands out among animals as a whole, but we also aren’t exactly sensorily deprived, either. This is of course unless you count more abstract mental faculties like “number sense” (the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this ability to count things, basically) as senses, in which cases we do definitely excel in those better than any other species we’ve yet encountered (in terms of number sense, we’ve discovered/invented advanced mathematics, so that should tell you something). Interestingly, on the topic of sensory stuff we lack which most other mammals have, humans conspicuously lack a Jacobson’s organ, a special cluster of nerves and olfactory receptors that is responsible for detecting pheromones in other mammals, and directly sending the signals to the hypothalamus and other areas of the midbrain. Possible pheromonal response in humans is a controversial subject, but despite being proposed in many different contexts, so far exactly one possible instance of an actual pheromonal response documented in humans has held up to experimental scrutiny (menstrual cycle synchronization), and even that remains something of a mystery that hasn’t been conclusively linked to pheromones last I heard. Any other time you hear someone talking about supposed human pheromones, they’re either mistaken by discredited research, or outright spewing pseudoscience (usually the latter, tbh), as there is literally no other good evidence we have the ability to respond to them last I heard. For the record, pheromonal response is not just having strong or emotional reactions to smells, it’s when exposure to external chemicals directly triggers a neurological/endocrine/other biochemical response in an animal, equivalent to how hormones are internal chemicals that trigger such responses (the -mone suffix on the word “pheromone” is a reference to this), and in other mammals this happens to take the form of inhaled volatile molecules, akin to olfaction, but simply reacting to smells like we do isn’t the same.
It isn’t a sense but we are the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this most enduranced land animal. There is nothing else that can outrun us. They can run faster sure, but nothing can run for as long as we can. -Our senses aren’t why we’re so successful. That’s down to our tool making, gathering in large groups, use of language to hand down learning and use of fire to cook meat and other foodstuffs into an easily digested state. On our own we’re physically unimpressive but make enough of us and we’ll out breed and out learn our competition Not sure. Let me consult with the International Bonobo League and I’ll get back to you. The Mantis Shrimp Congress were unavailable for comment. Our sense aren’t bad, but they are highly attuned for specific things. Here’s a little experiment you can do at home: you need a friend, ice cold water, freshly boiled hot water, and a couple of cups/other drinking implements. Have your friend close their eyes and have them guess which water is being poured into a cup just by listening to it. If you’ve done the experiment correctly, your friend should be able to correctly guess when hot or cold water is being poured. We are highly attuned to recognizing these sounds because the ability to boil water was highly important to our ancestors. On a similar note, we’re also highly attuned to the smell of soil. We can guess based on smell if soil is good for farmland. You most likely know this smell as “petrichor,” aka that nice aroma you smell after it rains.
Check out Ed Yong’s book An Immense World, it has lots of fascinating stuff about animal senses and how they compare to humans. Who are we comparing with? We have better eyesight than the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this overwhelming majority of mammals out there, and better noses than the nares of any-non-seafaring bird that’s not a kiwi or low-flying vulture. If we, however, compare our eyesight to birds and our noses to mammals, we are below average. I don’t know the ability to smell across the whole animal kingdom off the top of my head – I’d guess that we are mediocre at best at it among more complex lifeforms -, but overall, our eyes are quite good, too, since a lot of invertebrates have to do with sub-par vision. Humans have a specialized ability to process vocal sounds. Human voices probably all sound the same to most animals.
It depends on what you are comparing humans to. Other mammals? Omnivores? Adaptable generalists? What is ‘developed’ if a bat can hear very high pitched sounds but a whale can hear very low pitched sounds. You get the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this idea. If you compare us to an animal that has been maximizing a sense for several million years, such as a nocturnal cat or an eagle, then our eyesight is less developed in the dark or at great distance. But compare us to a dog and we have excellent color, sharpness, etc. (see other posts for better descriptions). Rinse and repeat for smell. A dog has excellent smelling and they can easily get their noses up close and personal with the sources of scents. We must stoop and bend. However there are some scents that we can detect and they cannot (and visa versa). Our senses are calibrated differently to help us. Some scents are difficult for dogs to detect but we can identify them in vanishingly small amounts. So we do have very good noses, but they are specialized in a different way. The fact that we rely more heavily on sight means that we value our noses less. So the short answer is: it’s complicated and this question doesn’t really make sense once you dig into the topic. BUT it is a great way to remind ourselves that we actually have pretty good senses across the board – and a mind to make the most of them. We didn’t kill 80% of the populations of other animals on this planet because we were less ‘developed’ in any given sense.
“Well developed” is a flawed way of thinking about how life evolves. “Well” is a descriptor that indicates opinionated judgement by a human. Life evolves to fit what ever section(s) it fits in regardless of a human’s opinion on how well it does. In general, our senses work for our species just as an owl or a dolphin’s senses work for their niche. Above average eye sight compared to what? It would be silly for a dragonfly or a chicken to have human eyesight because our eyes don’t suit their species….plus so many of us can’t function fully without the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this use of artificial light and corrective lenses lol But in the whole, yes, we have well developed senses. But our sense our tied to our environment and because humans are everywhere, our sense are gonna be less “specified” than many other creatures and therefore might appear less developed.
Mammals tend to be best at scent, touch and hearing. But compared to most, our noses arent super-sensitive beyond a handfull of chemicals (like H2S). Our touch, while decent, isnt well develloped compared to the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this many animals that use vibrissae (whiskers) to be able to move in complete darkness. And our hearing is nothing special compared to the world-class bats and cetaceans. For humans, sight is our best-develloped sense. We are trichromats, allowing us to see more colors that most mammals, and we have excellent depth perception-for a mammal. But some birds (namely birds of prey) can see a mouse from hundreds of meters away, with a detail and depth evaluation we can only dream of. Some arthropods (namely mantis shrimp) have many more color sensors, allowing them to have more detailed color vision than we could dream of. There are even some cephalopods that can see polarization of light!
I don’t think it would be too difficult to find other animals that excel in individual senses beyond our abilities. However, if you were to look at overall stats in all senses combined, then I’d wager that humans would come out ahead and probably by a large margin. Our feet/soles are a terrible mess of bones and muscles held together by the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this evolutionary equivalent of duct tape. Just the sheer amount of useless bones (some of which fuse later in life) and the quite fragile and overcomplicated structure tells you something (no wonder so many people have problems with feet and/or lower back later in life) Compare that to, for example, ostrich feet. 3 pieces, simple but powerful, can run marathon in 40 minutes. Humans never even came close, with 2 hours being the record. Here’s an article if you want to learn more;
Most of our senses are pretty mid tier, but our two standouts are touch and stamina (not a sense really, but it’s the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this main way we stand out from the rest of the animal kingdom). Our sense of touch, if properly trained, is capable of detecting tiny imperfections that is invisible to most other perceptions. Stereognosis is the ability to recognize and understand objects by touch. For example, if I made you close your eyes and handed you a paper clip, you would probably immediately know that’s what it was just by its feel. Humans are exceptional at this “sense.” We have very specialized finger tips for fine sensation, extremely dexterous hands for object manipulation, and excellent cognitive processing to link experience and knowledge with what we are touching.
This slideshow is such a good representation of the Thunderbolts and lightning Galileo Shirt also I will do this fact that Indian women are not a monolith. I love how there are fair and dusky women, rich and poor, with various degree of urbanisation. I always find it confounding & limiting when people claim that only 1 skin-colour is an “Indian” colour. Not true at allll!!! India is no monolith, and we’ve ALL sorts of colours & complexions & clothing & food & cultures!!! Yes, They all Have some context. If you’re interested in a particular one please ask as it will take too long to Caption every single one. This is what I could Find but You can be correct because The Original Source of this Image doesn’t mention Any State as such. and all of a sudden in a 100 years or so all women in the silver screen are so much whiter! wonder what happened to the genes? Probably they are whiter than they appear in the photos. These are old cameras. I believe films were not really made for Indian skin tones. PS: Not saying there were no dark skinned people. But old cameras are notoriously bad at reproducing skin tone accurately due to limitations of old chemical based films. One of the best picture albums, OP. An India finding solace while being tormented by sarcastic rulers. Very similar to today’s India, the difference being that then, it was colonizers, and now it’s fascists.
