I’ve had instances where it locked up while I’m driving. It’s kinda scary because it’s my right knee. The leg I use to drive and…” “Yes…do you smoke?” “Yeah, I have been since 2018…but like I was saying. It’s scaring me because I don’t want it to lock up on the accelerator. I could loose control of my vehicle” (Turns computer screen to me) “and this is what your lungs will look like if you don’t quit smoking”

I later had to request getting to see a specialist for my knee from a different doctor, and we found out that my ACL had been completely destroyed, and that’s what was causing all of my issues for almost 4 years. Ugh. This resonated with me. I heard all sorts of dumb stuff when I was trying to get help for my endometriosis. When I was 20, my doctor told me to try Motrin and come back in 3 months – I had been in pain since I was 12! When I was 22, another doctor urged me to try to get pregnant soon in case it could alleviate my symptoms. When I was 29, a doctor suggested that I needed a sex therapist indicating that my pain was psychological. The hoops they will jump through before actually doing their job. I decided to just see the other Dr. as I was next in line for him & I’d had nothing but good experiances with other Drs at that practice. After looking in my ear and saying there was no infection, he turns to look at my chart & says “what are you doing to lose weight?” I was LIVID! I looked him in the eye and said “I’m here for my EAR, not my weight. You can see in my chart that I REGULARLY see Dr. X, as I have been for YEARS so you can see our plan.” I complained to my PCP the next day & she made a note that he was NEVER to see me again. If I had known he was going to be an asshole I would have waited to see my PCP. (He was also CLEARLY overweight so I wss tempted to say something rude & snarky like “Oh! I don’t have a plan… what plan are YOU using to lose weight or is that just a beer gut?”)
