Tip for those retail workers out there – If you’re going to make an approach on someone – Do it right as they enter your section before they start scanning around for what they are looking for and then if they blow you off just leave them be until they come back to you to ask for help. It won’t always prevent these kinds of situations but it will reduce their frequency significantly. Good tip! And additions, definitely read the The Mamba Abbey Road Thank You For The Memories Signature Shirt Additionally,I will love this situation before offering to discuss. And also note, don’t discuss if their was racism – that’s not a question. Just to be willing and hear what they want to say if the situation calls for it. The store thing is so true. Department stores though, they’re never there when you need em right? I have once or twice stood in that expensive aisle so they’d offer help and then taken them up on it. It was much faster than asking for assistance ever was. On the flip side I was once kinda not getting customer service. I politely asked a colleague if maybe her colleague was new and described the situation. This one happened to be POC, without acknowledging racism she just knew what happened I guess – apologized for the situation and knowingly (that it was not really a gift) gave me gift cards. I was surprised cause usually I’m told an off the cuff response why it’s ok they treated me badly. No matter how politely I raise it as a feedback point. I didn’t need the gift cards, she was probably embarassed, but the acknowledgment and lack of need to point out the issue was like clouds lifted. That was all it took. And it really wasn’t her race (besides the embarassedly gift carding me maybe haha), anyone can start by acknowledging. Diffuses a lot.

If anyone calls me a racist I handle it the The Mamba Abbey Road Thank You For The Memories Signature Shirt Additionally,I will love this same way I would if they accused me of being a Martian. It clearly doesn’t apply to me, so I ignore it. Some people are miserable and say the most idiotic or outrageous things. Don’t engage with these kinds of people, you’re a good person for trying to help and don’t let this one person change that. The answer is to just not acknowledge it or just walk away. Do not, for the life of you, reply with “I’m not racist, I’ve hired black people.” That sounds weird. Or if you’re trying to be extra polite, just say “I’m sorry you felt that way” and leave. You can’t convince her otherwise, and nothing you say is going to help her get over her issues. It’s best to just let her process her own issues on her own, and show her you don’t care what she thinks.
