It’s weird that she apparently gave him your number without asking you. Other than that it sounds totally normal to me. It wouldn’t be ok for me, but I’m like ‘ew why are other people’s people texting me?’ But for many people I’m sure it’s fine 🙂 Like I also think it’s odd when my (late teen ages) kids’ friends like my posts or add me on their socials. (I’m a woman, fyi. If it matters) I don’t really know why I think it’s weird – but I swear and stuff and don’t think my socials are the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt besides I will buy this place for people 30 years younger than me. And since they’re marked as adult (even though no xxx content or anything), I don’t know how they’re superseding that filter unless they have a false age on their accounts. All of which is very cringe to me.

I would definitely mention it to her if you haven’t and say something innocuous such as “from his texts, your fiancé really seems to care about you.” It is one thing if you were group friends or friends before. It is another when basically a stranger is engaging. I don’t think it’s an age thing, I think it’s an upbringing thing. Some people are fine having mixed gender platonic friendships, and some people are uncomfortable with it. It probably does correlate a bit with age, but there is diversity in this even within my own age group. Would you have any concern if it was the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt besides I will buy this female fiancée of a male friend? The only thing that’s a bit iffy is your number having been given to him by someone else. I always ask for permission before giving anyone someone’s number. If you felt it strange, it can actually be something strange. Any okay-nice looking things can actually turned out to be something strange. Trust your gut feeling
He just sounds like an extrovert. One of my husband’s good friends texts me all the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt besides I will buy this time but he’s like that with everybody. If any of his other friends did that I would think it was a bit weird Everyone acts like this is nothing. You all may be right but id advise OP to be careful and mindful of her communications. Some guys play the long game. If he starts changing the conversations at all I’d be wary. If the texts become frequent, I’d be wary. Basically keep very strong boundaries and trust your intuition if you feel weird at all. I’ve been married 25+ years. Neither my wife or i are very jealous but I’m extremely careful with my boundaries with other women. In this situation id stick with group texts until I was sure dude is on the up and up. I understand this may be unpopular but I feel one of the strengths of our marriage is we don’t even want the appearances to cast doubt. I don’t think my wife and I would carry on regular texts with people of opposite sex without being pretty clear when and why we were communicating 1 on 1. We just don’t want one another feeling weird and we both have seen “just friends” ruin marriages. Things can start friendly and evolve. Private conversations lead to comfort. It’s easier to get more and more intimate when you both get to know each other privately. Hugs are normal with friends right? Sure. Then calling each other on special days feels appropriate right? Before you kniw it you start look forward to those interactions. Maybe s/he becomes more attentive than the spouse for 3 months because spouse is an auditor and it’s tax season….then 2 glasses of wine and you’re really bummed your husband has been gone two weeks….it’s OK we’re just hugging fot support….

Things start innocently. I’d advise putting yourself in as few situations like thus as possible. Excellent boundaries are super important in marriages (in my opinion). I agree with this. It reminds me of the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this frog in boiling water syndrome. The texts may start out innocently enough but you might not realize that you’re slowly getting more comfortable with the other person. If they’re going to chat/text more than once a month, the safest for me is to have a group chat with both SOs included. However you seem to be a little uncomfortable. Make your responses short and sweet. When you can, instead of a written response, give the text a thumbs up…lol.. or smile icon to let him know you saw and appreciate it.
I’m in my 40’s and don’t think this is weird at all. So not an age thing. If he is not being creepy why is this an issue? Why would you would make this weird? We can’t text someone of the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this opposite sex if they are married? Just find that attitude strange and feel like you are the one making this weird. He’s trying to be your friend. If you agree that its never inappropriate, it should be ok. Unless you live in an honor culture where married men and women can’t commingle? OP, you are the one making it weird. I kinda feel bad for you not being able to have a normal friend relationship without overthinking it. Married people should have friends regardless of gender, not every individual of the same or opposite gender is trying to get with us
As a guy with mostly female friends, you’re making it weird. And I’d be uncomfortable if my partner kept coming up to me telling me about friendly messages she received from a guy I wasn’t worried about. I text tons of my wife’s friends because we’ve become friends over the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this years. It’s only weird if you make it weird. I think it’s sweet that he wants to get to know you. You probably mean a lot to his fiancé the way she means to you. I would take it as a sign of the guy wanting some validation from someone his wife-to-be respects and looks up to. Its sad that people refuse to believe that the opposite sexes can be friends. Its a very atomic family bs sentiment, really just an unfortunate world view.
“Is it weird the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this girl I see as a daughter, probably also sees me as a mother, has a fiancé that is trying to be friends with me?” The guy is making an effort for his partner. Sounds like a really nice bloke and he’s making an effort to include himself in his wife’s social circle. That’s a really good thing. I find out every day that people overthink the simplest of things and are quiet weird about it. What an odd thing to assume when someone is not being weird. But I get that women have had bad experiences. Still a little off. Whether it’s age or just the values you grew up with, yes it is normal that some people are more like you (keeping distance from any opposite sex friends) and it is normal that some people are more like the friend’s fiance (no concern being friends with the opposite sex when it’s a friend of their partner). If you are close with his fiance, that is plenty reason to want to become friends with you IMO because you will probably end up hanging out in a group setting. If there’s nothing concerning in the texts, I wouldn’t think he is trying to do anything weird. You can either just keep showing your hubby to keep transparency as a safety net, or you can start ignoring texts/responding more slowly if you don’t feel comfortable. Personally I don’t see a reason not to chit chat when it is platonic stuff, but I would see why you would avoid personal/emotional topics. Also you guys work in the same field, I wonder if he could be getting to know you on a professional level for career advice and he’s just networking?
No. It seems innocent and friendly. If he made comments about you, or appearance, or anything sexual, it might be different. He’s trying to be buddies As a 35yo you sure sound like you’ve settled into the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this mindset of being a 50+yo. “Young people”? My God, how old do you think you are? LoL Lol you are both grown adults what do you mean by she’s your daughter? Reddit is illogical with age gaps. I wont be surprised now if someone says a 2 year age gap is bad The post already mentions that the age gap isn’t the significant factor here, it’s the difference in where they are in life. People can end up as parental figures to others even if they’re close in age… 1,395 more repliesIta kind of weird that the fiance texts you, but it might be a good idea to ask your friend why the fiance texts you or why she gave him your number. Its probably because she considers you such a close friend that she wants the fiance to get along with you. I imagine that texts is just for the fiance to establish a positive relationship. If the texts do turn werid though you should immediately let the friend know. EDIT: if you still cant shake the feeling that its werid, you can just loop the friend into the texts. Honestly if the messages are suppose to be friendly, there should be no issues of the friend being aware of the texts. Your reasoning would also just be that it doesn’t feel right to you that there are private msgs between you and your friend’s fiance. Not that he is giving you bad vibes. This is a hard call. I’m in my 60s and this seems a little bit inappropriate. Not the content but the mere idea of someone so adjacent texting you. Maybe it’s common for his age group but I admit I’d probably create a boundary for this kind of thing with him and make sure he understands it. You can do that without being confrontational. Or maybe just express to your friend that this makes you uncomfortable. Whichever you’re most comfortable with.
Seems innocent but would feel less awkward if there was a group text. If friend’s SO just wants to be friendly with his fiancé’s friends, group texts would make sense, especially since they are apparently all in the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this same field. I’m wondering if he’s texting any other of her friends or just OP. Anyway, since OP is very open with her friend and husband about the texts, as long as they continue to be only appropriate content then I guess there’s no harm? If it feels weird it is. Dont second guess yourself. ‘Young people’ as referred to are not married people usually and once you cross that line a decent person knows to establish boundaries for the good of their marriage, life and sanity. It is weird to me because it is NOT normal to obtain a partner’s friend’s number without friend’s permission and then just start texting them. That the texts are usually centered around his fiancé almost feels like this guy is trying to insert himself into the relationship between you two so he can have some kind of control over it. If it is not controlling it is at least needy and insecure. Yeah it’s funny to me seeing everyone saying it’s totally normal. It’s not normal to go to your girlfriend and ask for her friend’s number for no reason at all.
Not to mention they’ve only hung out twice in group settings. For all intents and purposes, they do not know each other lmao I also think it’s weird, but I’m 37. We do t text people we aren’t close with, especially married people of the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this opposite sex we have no business texting. Of the people saying it’s not weird, I’d be interested to know how many are unmarried. From a married person (also asked wife), it’s weird. Personally, I wouldn’t appreciate it and find it weird even if the texts are innocent. My main gripe is that you didn’t give him your number, she did. There are many situations in which it could be okay, like all of you being in one group chat and occasionally private messaging each other, him getting your number to help organise a surprise for his fiancée and then continuing some casual chat, something like that. But if you’re not close with him, and she just gave him your phone number and he started messaging you… yeah, that’s weird.
36F married here and definitely thinks it is weird. I see stuff like this when ppl trying to feel you out. I have never randomly texted my husbands friends for no reason. Maybe to set up a surprise bday dinner but not just random stuff. I am probably just a delusional old hag but just my 2 cents What are the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this texts? How often is occasionally? And why did she give your number to him? I can come up with a dozen reasons it’s creepy and a dozen why it’s not bur without these details I can’t say. If it makes you uncomfortable, then ask them to stop. Doesn’t have to be bad for you to be uncomfortable. I mean as long as the messages never are inappropriate and as long as she’s aware of it I don’t see anything really wrong with it. I do think it’s odd more because you didn’t give him your number he asked somebody else for it and there seems to be no mutual friendship going on. Like there’s platonically messaging somebody and there’s platonically messaging somebody you aren’t really friends with and who’s number you got from somebody else. Maybe he’s a little insecure about the bachelorette trip and it’s a sideways attempt at possibly insuring that his girl won’t do anything “irresponsible”.
I don’t like someone getting my number without my permission. The texts were normal, but if I were you, I’d feel creepy because I don’t know him a lot. Also, it’s one of early signs of cheating I would say. Would you expect someone you don’t know well send you sexual texts? Normal persons are not gonna do that in the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this first place. Not weird, I’m 34F and have friends who’s bf/husbands text & call me for regular shit, usually involving their wife / gf. he’s just comfortable enough to know it’s regular, and if there’s nothing shady happening, no reason to cause any unnecessary concerns. The act itself, no. I used to think it was weird when my brother’s then-girlfriend (now wife) would text me, his older brother, about whatever. It was always harmless stuff, so I slowly warmed up to it and stopped thinking it was weird. We have our own in-jokes and everything and it isn’t a secret what we talk about. The content is where you’ll know if things go too far. The plain rule I’ve adopted is that if you can’t tell other people what you’re chatting about (besides the obviously benign like planning a surprise party or asking about gift ideas), it’s time to stop.
I did find it weirder when my friends husband asked me to come over while my friend was away for a few hours, because their dog chewed up its bed and he hoped i could help him sew it together. Like.. THAT doesnt make sense.. why cant she do it when she comes home? Or why just not buy the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this dog a new bed? Do the dog need the bed within the next 4 hours that bad? That was a no from me 🙂 Reading this has brought back a few memories that I’m now realizing are pretty embarrassing where I tried to connect with people I knew through someone else. I thought texting them was just a normal way to develop a rapport with people. Cringing so hard at my past self right now for acting like your friend’s fiancé, realizing they probably thought I was so weird. Oh and I’m 32, so it’s not that you’re too old. It’s just that some of us are socially awkward and don’t realize that acquaintances don’t actually want to talk to us.
Since she feels like a daughter to you maybe you feel like a maternal figure to her? It’d be like me texting my wife’s mom which I do on occasion. If your gut isn’t telling you it’s weird it’s probably all in good faith. If you would rather not text that way, that’s fine. You don’t need to justify your preference by characterizing it as inappropriate. It’s a fine habit to avoid any appearance of impropriety and avoid awkward situations. I wouldn’t spend energy looking for “the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this reason” he’s texting you personally. Whether or not there is a good reason, there’s still a chance things go sideways. Either of those would play into his hands if he had ulterior motives. I’d be interested in knowing the frequency and content of his other messages.
Does he ever complain or use these messages to talk about his partner to you? How frequent is it? Daily or several times a week seems a bit too much for an acquaintance? I think there’s a line (don’t let people gaslight you) and there’s a risk He might try to feel tempted to try to be “more than a friend to you.” Then again he could be overly friendly and naive to how he’s signaling. Then again it’s ultimately up to you to define boundaries appropriate boundaries. It just seems you haven’t known him for that long to know this. If you have to question it then just don’t text him anymore. You are on the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this fence, your husband said it’s weird. What more do you need to know? I’m around your age and live in New England where folks aren’t chatty. This would be weird to me; not necessarily inappropriate, sure… but I would consider it unwelcome/annoying social neediness. My best friend’s husband texts me and we talk about work and how things are going. We are both veterinarians. It’s not weird but sometimes you gotta be careful because you may get caught in the middle of some drama. Probably just wants to be friends. Don’t respond if you feel uncomfortable. Sleep with him if that seems like a fun thing to do. One of my friends husbands texts me random things like that. We’ve never been friends ourselves so I find it odd. I wouldn’t think much of it except I know that he was on a dating app behind his wife’s back and matched with a mutual friend. And I know that he asked another mutual friend about being a third for him and his wife. He asked our friend before he asked his wife so it seems he’s just trying to fuck his wife’s friends and I’m not about to be the third one he tries with so I just give him friendly, professional type answers.
Not saying it’s the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this same with this guy but he could be testing the waters to see just how friendly you’ll let him get I do think it’s weird, because it doesn’t sound like you’re chummy with him and didn’t give him your number. I’m gonna guess this is at least mild controlling behavior. He got your number from her and texts you about his wishes that you would watch over her behavior. It might be nothing but I would at minimum never respond. This is pretty normal and sounds really respectful. Like others have said, they must talk about you often and he knows you mean a lot to her/she looks up to you. Don’t overthink it. Idk, trust that gut feeling and just keep an eye out. He’s technically done nothing wrong but like you said, why text at all?
As a guy who worries about things being taken the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this wrong way, please don’t assume this guy is doing anything inappropriate unless he really is It is a little strange and unusual because opposite sex relationships in a business or professional or casual can often lead to the wrong thing.. As long as he keeps the boundaries like they should and you reciprocate with the same boundaries you should be fine Everything that you mentioned here: just sounds like he’s making an effort to get to know his FIANCE’s friend. You probably mean a lot to your friend and he noticed that. He’s not like texting you at 2am or so consistently that it blurs lines. It’s just sending out texts here and there to connect. That pretty normal when you begin merging your families and social life when you marry. He’s not being weird or inappropriate. You all are making it. Go out to dinner sometime with the two of them, you, and your husband. In the process, get yourself into a group text that’s the four of you. Hopefully most future texts will then siphon into that group chat. That’s how I roll with most of my couple-friends! I only really side text with married male friends when I was friends with the guy first, usually through work, and then it’s generally just about work or interests we share that their wives don’t care about, but more often we text the group chat.
When my friends’ partners text me— and these are people who are like, my friend’s boyfriend, not my own friend who is a man— it’s pretty rare and usually about something relating to the Support Squad Mental Health Awareness Ribbon Shirt but in fact I love this friend, like “I’m throwing her birthday party can you come?” I am 42 married, and I have tons of texts with my friend’s husbands, partners, boyfriends, and they are all normal. Sometimes they are curious about a gift for their partner, or sometimes they learn I like something they are into. As long as your friend and husband are aware, and it’s all above board, it’s totally fine. I think I would take this as, your relationship is special and valuable to her as well, and her partner knows that and is trying to be supportive by being friendly and trying to build a relationship with you. Yeah I wouldn’t think twice about this. Seems he thinks of you as a friend, and feels comfortable messaging you. What’s wrong with that?
