Also autism is on a spectrum so id say people who arent “looking” for it in their kids or are less aware of it, especially in less severe forms are far less likely to get their kids tested and diagnosed. Im sure a bunch of factors such as quality of healthcare and possible ideas regarding mental health or interpretations of mild autism like “oh he is just shy or anti-social” also affect reporting rates. This is probably why it might be statistically “more prevalent” even though it might really not be in reality.

I do wonder if I got retested nowadays if id be on the spectrum with how the understandings and interpretations of it have changed, although im not gonna get tested since im fine and dont need a diagnosis or treatment It’s more likely to be identified and diagnosed. Kids of color are more likely to be disciplined for the same behaviors white kids get sent to a counselor for. White kids are also more likely to have access to robust health insurance that includes mental health care.
