I now realise that was the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this result of growing up in the 80s, when men just…did more stuff. Their music, art, and literature was revered and touted and visible in a way women’s wasn’t. Their voices and opinions were important, they were in positions of authority. So the message I got was that men had their rightful place as visible, active contributors to society. Women were not really valuable beyond being attractive to men, and their role as a wife and mother. If they did “man things” they had to be pretty while they did it, or they were just dabbling and might be “good at it for a girl”. Or they were seen as proxy men (like female politicians), and given legitimacy that way. It took a long time, and reading history, and consuming art made by women, and societal changes, for me to see anything feminine as valuable or legitimate. And I’m a woman.

Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt: Perfect for Fans

Visible gender differences are not inherently bad. The way that society sees them and values them can be. Coming on Reddit is sometimes depressing, because any post where a woman’s face or body is visible attracts a flood of comments about her face and body, no matter what she’s doing, especially, but not only, if she’s young and attractive. If she’s not young and attractive then she gets disgust comments. That doesn’t usually happen for men. It makes me want to hide my gender and appearance so that I won’t be judged on it. I do love androgyny, and it sounds like maybe you do too, OP. One of the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this best things about internet anonymity is that, since people usually see users as male by default, I am not treated in weird ways. It feels so freeing to not have to deal with randoms DMing me with dick pics, gamers making sexist remarks, and doubting my ability/competence in game for just existing as a woman in an online game chat, but only when they lack the context that they are talking to a woman. Very normal. And I wouldn’t call a lot of it “victimless crimes”. Sexism and gender stereotypes being perpetuated in any shape or form towards either gender is harmful as fuck. It sets a precedent and expectation that all women/girls do X (are meticulous, mean when arguing, better at cleaning etc) and all men/boys do X (are strong, don’t cry, are lazy etc) and then when said gender doesn’t match those expectations, the other person is offended/angry/disappointed and the person being held to those expectations feels bad (like they’re not a true man or woman, like they let someone down, like a freak etc).
And sexism doesn’t end with mostly harmless stereotypes such as “women are more meticulous”, which seems kinda like a compliment on the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this surface. People who believe all women are a monolith like that typically also believe really fucking harmful shit like “women are better at cleaning and therefore I am not going to do it”, “women are better at care taking and home making so they should stay home,” “all women should be mothers with no exceptions,” “women are hysterical,” etc etc etc. It is incredibly frustrating to be boiled down to basically just a vagina, yes. Welcome to life as a woman, unfortunately. As a 30yo who’s been through it for decades, my best advice is to ignore these people completely. Do not engage. Your first instinct will be to get angry and argue. But you will never change these peoples’ minds and you will just be constantly angry and exhausted.

Step by step to buy Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt

With that said, as a man I definitely can’t treat women exactly the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this same as men. Not without being an asshole. Walking alone in the dark, if I come across a man walking in the same direction, I’ll stay aware of where he is in case he tries to jump me but otherwise won’t change my walking speed, but if I come across a woman, I will have to either stop and let her put distance between us so she knows I’m not following her, or if I’m in a hurry I’ll have to speed up and say something like “passing on your left” while keeping my distance as much as possible so she knows I’m not trying to sneak up on her. If I see a work friend that’s looking tired, if they’re a man I can say “wow, you look like shit! Baby not sleeping?” and generally ask how they’re doing to make sure they’re ok. If they’re a woman, I had better not mention that she’s looking tired (even if I’m really worried about her!) lest I come off as policing her looks.
But on the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this other hand, our society’s gendering of non-gendered things has been out of control for a long time. Why are drinks gendered?* Scents? Colors? It’s madness. *And for that matter, plenty of “fruity girly drinks” have way more alcohol than “manly man drinks” unless you’re drinking straight liquor. Yet apparently only wimpy men order them. (Luckily, I don’t care what other people think about what I drink; I’ll drink a girly drink if I want to.) Honest question. I read a lot of Redditors sat how stressful guys feel it is trying to make women feel safe in random situations. But also that men kill and injure other men more, on average. Are guys not wondering “Bro what u doing behind me?” when they can’t see someone approaching or like eyeing up ppl they encounter? Does it not bother guys when other guys wonder if they’re threats? Or only when women size them up? I’d be more scared of the one who is more likely to have a gun, I think, than the one who might annoy me or hurt my feelings.
When you’re walking alone on a dark road and you come upon another guy you don’t know, if each of you views the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this other as a potential threat, that means you’re both (relatively) safe. Since each of us knows that even if we won a fight with the other, we’d probably get seriously injured in the process, nobody is going to start shit. (If there was even a reason to start shit.) Also, if the other guy is acting shady, or if it looks like several threatening guys are together, then you bet I’m going to be wary.* (And maybe they have a knife or a gun, and they’re going to mug me. In that case, I give them my wallet and walk away with my life. It sucks, but it’s better than dying.) But why would I want to come off as threatening to a woman? Let alone a woman who’s alone in the dark? What’s the point? It won’t make me any safer, it will make her uncomfortable at best, and it will make me feel like a creep (because it’s creepy). Also, and maybe this is more to the point, when I come across a random dude at night, neither of us is worried the other is going to rape us. But when a woman is scared of me in the same situation, that’s probably her first thought. Despite that, I’ve never raped anyone, and I never will rape anyone, and if I came across a rape in progress, I’d do what I could to stop it. Even so, I don’t begrudge a woman for not knowing that about me–how could she? She can’t read my mind!–and I don’t begrudge her for doing what it takes to make herself feel safe, because there are bad guys out there who would rape her given the chance, but at the same time that doesn’t make it hurt any less every time I’m reminded that–through no fault of my own–half of society sees me as a barely restrained animal, a half-civilized beast who could commit sexual violence at any moment.
It’s like, if women were known to snap other couples’ babies’ necks on occasion (but the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this majority of women never did that, despite a minority of women trying to when they thought they could get away with it), and you were walking through the park past a parent with a baby in a stroller, and when they saw you coming they shielded the stroller with their body. And this happened basically every time you came across a lone parent with their baby. How would it make you feel? Perhaps something like “I’m not going to snap your baby’s neck! Only an unfeeling monster would do something like that!”? Yet despite that, you know the statistics: you know they’re not wrong to take precautions, because there absolutely are women out there that would snap that baby’s neck in a second, given the chance. How would you feel knowing that they think you (yes, you specifically!) might want to do that to their baby? How might it wear you down over time, to where you no longer even think in words “you have nothing to fear from me”, you just mentally give a defeated sigh, knowing this will never change, and that realistically there’s no way it can change. There’s no way–ever–for them to know you’re not a monster, so their fear is justified, even though it’s totally misplaced. You just have to live with it. Because that’s pretty much what it feels like for me.
*This only really applies in bad neighborhoods or when it’s really isolated and dark. Otherwise, men recognize that other men are just trying to get through the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this day, so unless they are being overtly hostile, threatening, or are acting suspicious, the presence of other men is about as interesting as the presence of fence posts or fire hydrants–which is to say, not very. Edited to add: Also I think it doesn’t bother me as much if a guy thinks I might beat them up, because sometimes you need to beat someone up. Sometimes it’s the right thing to do, so if they think I might fight, well, I might! If the situation calls for it. Conversely, there is never a reason to rape someone, so someone thinking I might rape them feels much more like an attack on my character than the same person thinking I might beat them up. With all the same caveats as above, knowing that they are being reasonable by taking precautions, and so forth.
FWIW, I’m a woman and I think I honestly size up everyone I come across in the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this general preteen-middle aged adult age range. Women are more wary in general. Most rape happens between people who know each other – I think most women know that it’s their creepy uncle or a dodgy “friend” or easily angered boyfriend rather than a rando on the street. What I’ve encountered personally on streets tho, is a general menacing from strange men. Throwing stuff at you out car windows, saying threatening stuff, following you in their truck, laughing at you, etc. But don’t guys do that to other guys? I’d kinda always assumed men mildly harassed each other out in the wild too? No problem. Even though I know it can never change (for the reasons I stated), and I obviously wouldn’t ask a woman to make herself less safe just to spare my feelings, it does help just…being understood, y’know?
I can’t say I’ve experienced the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this general menacing from other men you’ve described. I’m guessing it’s because (cowardly) men know that other men are a lot more likely to commit violence in response to hostility. It’s kind of a weird double-standard. On the one hand, the men you’ve encountered gleefully terrorizing you because you’re a woman wouldn’t dare try the same thing on me (6’1″ 240lb man), for fear of violent retaliation. On the other hand (and this in no way justifies the former behavior), in my experience, men will tolerate a lot more disrespect and/or violence from women than from other men. (At least in public; Domestic Violence is a whole other can of worms.) If a woman slaps you or dumps her drink on your head, you just take it. Maybe warn her not to do that again or you’ll restrain her, in the case of the slap. But if I did either of those things to another guy? I would fully expect them to take a swing at me, and I can’t honestly say if they did the same to me that I wouldn’t take a swing at them, too.
(BTW I’m well aware that rape is usually committed by someone you know, because that’s how I got raped, years and years ago. By an older woman–not much older, she was in her twenties–when I was a teen.) I’m so sorry to hear that I’ve been SA by a family member, it can be rough. I know several other guys who have been SA by older women as boys. These creeps need to be in jail! You mentioned bars – you see so many drunks testing other ppl over the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this smallest stuff like bumping them, which is why I guess I always assumed men did that stuff to other guys in other settings too. Maybe if you were smaller they’d act differently? I have had a woman smaller than me take a swing at me when I still went to bars a lot and it was less alarming than being intimidated by someone larger – so I kinda get that. Coincidentally, I just walked about a mile in the dark & gave a wide berth to a woman standing outside a tavern giving me “methhead” vibes by her movements. 😐
Thx for lending me your time, btw! I kept meaning to look this up and I saw your comment right after I’d walked somewhere so thought I’d ask. It’s all right, I’m doing much better. It was a long time ago, and I’ve long since healed. But I appreciate your kind thoughts, and I’m so sorry you had to endure SA at the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this hands of someone you should have been able to trust. ? My size may very well have a lot to do with it. (Also, I’m a black belt, so I probably give off “don’t fuck with me” vibes?) I could definitely see smaller men getting picked on much more easily. And yeah, alcohol definitely brings out the worst in many people. Outside of bars, I haven’t really seen the kind of overt, physical “dominance-challenging” behaviors you see in bars between men, other than in, like, high school. Even in college, the most bro-iest of bros I met were still chill in that regard. It could be because I don’t work in a field where physical strength means anything? I’m a software engineer, so while I can’t say there’s no dominance contests, the ones that we do have are more about intellectual dominance/corporate power than anything else, certainly not about capability to enact violence. I’ve never seen anyone be physically threatening at work, whereas I imagine that might not be the case if I worked construction or in some of the more physical trades.
I live in a fairly calm small town atm, so walking is all good. Usually there aren’t too many people around. There’s trouble, but you need to go find it or like, be out drinking after midnight or in rougher bars. But I’ve lived in some rougher (also small) towns in the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this past, with stuff like folks tweaking out wandering everywhere. Maybe that’s why I’ve often questioned why everyone doesn’t side eye everyone, lol. Yes. I had periods for over 40 years and it was very frustrating to learn that it was entirely pointless and unnecessary; I’ve since learned that there was zero medical reasoning behind the decision that women “should” have “monthly bleeds” while on the pill. I’m sure there are also numerous good reasons to be frustrated about being a man! It is also perfectly normal to be angry or frustrated with people who treat you differently because of sex / gender – or because of anything else that you didn’t actively choose, e.g. race, disability, height, level of attractiveness &c.
This is how I view the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this discussion of gender as a whole. I think in time (maybe decades) more people will see it this way, but right now I think I’m just ahead of my time. Rather than people changing their pronouns, I think we should make an effort to get rid of what we associate with genders. Likenif you’re a dude who wants to wear dresses and make up, then do that. You don’t need to be a woman to wear dresses. Clothes/toys/drinks/etc. don’t need to belong to a gender. I think we’re starting to see this with video games, and it’s great. Video games aren’t something exclusively for guys now, and it’s becoming less and less of a stereotypical “male” hobby, and just a hobby in general that doesn’t belong to one gender or the other. Like, guys, this post is very polite and the OP even says “I would want to be perceived as a man, not because of the privilege but something else”
I don’t really disagree with what you said, but I think some people might just feel like they can relate to OP even if they are a man. I’m talking about the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this whinier posts that tried as hard as they could to downplay the issue “Oh you think women have it hard try being a man” It’s stupid. I relate to OP while being a man, but I don’t feel the need to invalidate their thoughts and feelings in the process. I have a neighbor who is transitioning to a woman because they feel being a man is too hard. They told several me times it’s easier to a woman and I can guarantee it is not! Since, generally, for women who are trans, being a man means having to mask all the time, and being a woman means so much less mental load, irrespective of societal pressures. The same men who are saying ‘what about men’ are probably the ones who treat women as ‘other’ and don’t see the hypocrisy in what they are saying. Because if you understand, you understand, you don’t belittle and dismiss people with the same experience… Just about every post you see on reddit fetishises boobs (which only women have) to the point it’s absurd to fixate on a body you don’t own as much as that. That’s one huge difference where you see how men and ‘other’ are treated. One body is a public display and the other is never thought of with the same terms of entitlement. But I’ve digressed. If you want to see why people won’t argue with you “like a man,” simply sort this by best and look at the lowest ranked comments.
Sure, absolutely. I see no reason why not. Society demands all kinds of unreasonable things from you, and frankly I’m amazed you all just haven’t packed up and left at this point. That’s a perfectly normal way to feel. Traditional gender roles are a dated trend, and while it’s perfectly fine if some people wish to be treated in that manner, it should absolutely not be the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this social default. It is annoying. Folks should just mind their business and let folks be themselves without comment. Hopefully things will change sooner than not. It’s more older folks hung up on this stuff. I’m a dude. My girlfriend got me into motorcycles. Her and I understand this pretty well, it’s a big part of why we’re together.
Gonna be honest, I had a novel typed out here and then deleted it. Believe it or not, what’s below is way shorter: You have people on your side, it’s frustrating being on either side, but especially the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this woman’s side, of the gender situation in society even now. Boy’s clubs and girl’s clubs will just always be a thing, and all we can do is complain and surround ourselves with people who say “fuck you” to this weird line that’s been drawn. I really hope to positively influence my little corner of the world so that people like you, and maybe even specifically you, don’t have to feel like this quite as much. It’s complete bullshit. You can do some small things to improve your life in this way. Try not to validate the divide, and try to carry yourself with confidence. Make your own decisions on things that shouldn’t really matter and stick to them with a great deal of indifference towards the world’s opinion of you. It’s not fair to have to do this, but it’s helped me in somewhat female dominant places in my life.
Hearing from you has inspired me to do the Popeye Some People Arent Just Missing A Screw The Whole Toolbox Is Gone Shirt moreover I love this same a little more, maybe I’ll whip out the eyeliner some time soon, makes my eyes look really good. Even if you were trans you’d still probably keep experiencing sexism. Since everyone and their mother is bemoaning “the loss of our tomboys” in this thread, I figured I’d throw that out there. As a trans guy, tomboy, and general gender weirdo the truth is I have male privilege as long as I’m a cis man, and it vanishes in many ways when people find out I am trans. I think people push the “female transes are just trying to escape misogyny” thing because otherwise folks gotta admit just how much worse sexism is than they thought. Often the misogyny is not actually “escaped” and we don’t do it for that. I often wonder what society would be like being born in complete equality. No patriarchy ect… I also wonder the same but with zero religion too.
