Volunteer for your kids’ school, or for community organization, or a shelter, or a church function; something you’re personally connected with. Never volunteer for a company who can pay you but won’t. Oh… work costs money but some idiots on university decided that you needed x hours volunteering for free to gain experience before getting the Original leave Out All The Negativity Focus On The Positivity T-Shirt and I will buy this diploma? And it’s obligatory and you don’t need to get paid? Come here baby. We will give you all experience you need as long as we don’t have to pay you or pay you below what you’re worth! Portland State said I had to do x volunteer and had to work an internship before graduating with my business degree. Okay, serious question: I’ve heard the terms “non-profit” and “not-for-profit” be used, but what is the difference? A non for profit does not “make” profit as it all goes back into the business and are not required to help society become better. Like a a local sports club. Members pay dues and all that, but it doesn’t report a profit as it invests back into the sports club People who start “non-profits” can hire themselves for exorbitant salaries. Many are created just for this purpose to reduce a company’s tax burden. The WBO is a non profit. Guess they only sanction fights with multi million dollar purses because they love the Corinthian aspect of amateur sport.

Sometimes events will pay community organizations to provide volunteers… But only because it’s cheaper than hiring workers at minimum wage. I’ve done security for festivals and I would absolutely never do it as volunteer work. This dude is out of his mind if he thinks people are gonna do it for free. Depends on the Original leave Out All The Negativity Focus On The Positivity T-Shirt and I will buy this festival Ive been paid for some but others Ill do it for free to just go but I love music so…. Ya, i see these “volunteers” all the time, they are always running concessions, never anything else (that I know of for sure anyway). A lot of festivals have volunteers, but it’s usually like “Man this booth for a few hours, then go off to enjoy the festival for free”. No way are they letting “security” bug out to watch their favourite band play. Also does America just have unlicensed security? USA… the most litigious country on the planet lets people physically restrain other people without any kind of licensing in place? Seems like an oversight… Oh wait that’s right, they’ll just fire the security guard and let they poor bastard get his life ruined while they pay a small “fine”. I would think/hope volunteer security workers aren’t expected to get physical with anyone, nor would anyone do so unless they’re powertripping assholes. Where I’m from security at licensed venues have to remove intoxicated people all the time. “Getting physical” just means touching other people, eg. walking someone off the premises that refuses to leave. It does not automatically mean throwing punches.
