Is like a tiktok of a guy who has several titles, he is good at his job, but was hours checking why the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and light in a room didn’t work… the lightbult was not screwed in properly! My SIL has three degrees, two of which are masters, mountains of debt, no hope to ever buy a house, or a car, or even retire – ever – for that matter, but she will look down her nose at blue collar folks who make 100K a year. Degrees and credentials just means that you can follow directions. There are brain engineers and rocket surgeons who don’t believe in evolution, take the Bible at its word and voted for Trump. They aced all of their exams in college but obviously possess a degree of stupidity that can’t be reconciled. In a nutshell don’t use their academic achievements as proof of their intelligence. Does she work an intense job that leaves very little mental energy afterwards? I feel like a lot of the “my doctor/lawyer/engineer friend has no common sense” stories always leave out how exhausted they are after working a billion hours a week

Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt, hoodie, hoodie and long sleeve tee

What do you mean by slow? Do you mean she’s clueless about some things? Does things more slowly? Does things you find dumb? I’m nowhere near that level, but I am a bit intelligent. I make a lot of stupid mistakes with basic things because my brain likes for things to be complicated and tries to solve problems that aren’t there. It doesn’t accept/like when things are simple. Just because you do something fast doesn’t mean you do it right. I’m slow at things because I have autism and am a perfectionist. I am often frustrated by people who do things quickly, because they invariably do them inadequately. When it comes to teamwork, like domestic labor, it’s not fun to have to redo a chore because your partner misses a bunch of steps. It’s better to do it right the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and first time.
My little brother is at MIT and I don’t think he could survive living on his own with his current set of skills. Like he doesn’t have a drivers license and Doordashes almost all his food with my parents credit card. We were vacationing at the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and beach once, and all beach houses look pretty similar. We were going for a beach walk at night because we’re odd eggs and also that’s when the crabs are a scuttlin’. As we set off the boardwalk my sister asks if we should mark our entrance so we can find the house again on the way back. My mom pipes up “It’ll be easy, it’s the one right under the moon.” (Where we were standing the moon was directly above the house.) And my dad just tossed back “Wait don’t you have a masters degree?”

I find it fascinating when street and book get together because you would think it would be a match made in heaven (strengths and weaknesses propped by the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and other etc) but it doesn’t appear to work out that way. On one hand, school success isn’t a great indicator of intelligence in my experience. The same kid with or without support from teachers and parents have drastically different school results. On the other, people who spent their lives investigating theoretical issues are obviously going to be less familiar with practical matters so they’ll look like a fish out of water when dealing with that kind of stuff. I grew up in rural Northern NY. My graduating class size was 50, and I was also an honor student. There was not a lot of competition. And I’m on Reddit, so how smart can I be, really? She could be neurodivergent but never diagnosed! My husband is super intelligent all throughout his childhood was in gifted classes even college kept a 4.0 gpa but daily tasks he gets so distracted and so slow never knows how to finish things,he believes he has undiagnosed ADHD.
My boyfriend got the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and highest grade in his year, is about to start his PhD and is insanely smart. The man thought Christmas trees only grew in the North Pole because of a Simpsons episode. My sister is one of the top lawyers in the country in her field. She thought that bungee rope came from the bark of the bungee tree. Went to school with a lot of kids like this. Many got full ride scholarships to places like Brown, Harvard, MIT, etc. But they couldn’t figure out basic tasks sometimes. It’s kind of fascinating. Two of the stupidest people I know are doctors. It has bothered me for a long time. Not because i think I am smart, I’m not. It’s because of how shockingly stupid these two individuals are. How can these people be so much smarter than me? It recently dawned on me (one of them just opened a practice smh) that they both have above average self-discipline. It’s kind of inspiring, really
People with rigid minds often struggle with that because there is no manual or syllabus to random life shit you just kinda gotta… embrace the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and jank and close-enough it. I know a woman who is a genius. Were talking best schools in the nation. Met two presidents bc of her achievements, full bright scholar you name it. Your wife is book smart;however, you are street smart and/or have common sense. While these aren’t mutually exclusive, sometimes people can end up solely in one category or another. I work in education and its usually the ones with Dr before their names that are the most incompetent. One of them even admitted to plagiarizing for her phd. I’ve seen many school smarts but not really that smart outside academics. I’ve seen people from Harvard but like psychopaths. But then again mental illness doesn’t discriminate Could be deliberate incompetence so that you do all the mundane daily tasks for her. My partner speaks four languages and has a PhD in Aerospace Engineering. He’s literally a rocket scientist. I always say that he can make an airplane, but he can’t make a sandwich. It’s definitely deliberate incompetence. I wondered this after photographing a phd graduation. There were two feet for the graduates to step on and a sign in front of the camera that said “Look here”. I felt like I was photographing toddlers. How can you be this smart but be so dumb? I’m pretty smart, have a master’s degree. I’m deeply Millennial. I trained at a warehouse job last week and this guy 15 years younger than me was showing us how to TIE A KNOT. It took me 10 minutes, a dozen tries, and I still looked like a complete fool. Like a toddler really fumbling with a shoelace. It was really embarrassing.
There are people who will take forever because they’re perfectionists, or they’re triple-checking everything (recipe says 2 eggs… they go get the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and eggs, check to make sure it’s 2. Pull out 2 eggs. Check to make sure it’s 2. Put the eggs away. When it comes time to use the eggs, check to make sure it’s 2.). This can also lead to freezing up or procrastinating. “I know I have to do this, but I don’t know every step, so I’ll put it off.” Some are easily distracted. Or prioritize things on the fly. Vacuuming the floor… oh right! The laundry needs to be put away. Puts away laundry. Forgets about vacuuming until the next time they walk in the room and see the vacuum. Some are just really good at their area of expertise or training, and lack the ability to work outside that. I’ve worked with plenty of head-down people who panic if asked to do something outside their norm. I’ve got friends who are brilliant until you ask them to fill a dishwasher or think about any practical day-to-day matter, and then they’re dumb as a bag of hammers. Then there’s just the different ways “intelligence” has been viewed over time. There are people who will never get math or science, but excel in the arts or languages or people skills or practical trades, etc.. But in school, they’re seen as “dumb” because long division never made sense to them. I look at an electrical problem with the eye of “oh man, I’d have to do a dozen things and maybe it will work.” and it will take me forever. Or I can hire an electrician who will say “no problem” and have it set up in an hour. Doesn’t mean either one of is smarter than the other, just different experiences and ways of looking at things.
I work with PhD professors and sometimes it’s hard to believe they have phd’s. What I’ve learned is that they have very specialized intelligence in their field, but basically lack smarts in anything else. Yes, I will remind you of how to do basic computer task for the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and 100th time. There are different types of intelligence. And in school, you know what’s expected of you, and you’re given the material to make it happen. If you have the time to work through problems, you’ll get good grades whether you’re really that smart or not. My analytical abilities are really rather good, but retention ability is balls. So, I tend to struggle at times simply due to bad memory, but if I have all the pieces, well I’ve been called a genius. I don’t see how speed of tasks correlates at all to intelligence. Being “slow” doesn’t mean taking a long time when referencing intelligence, it means not getting things, period. I’m an only child, was in the gifted program in elementary and middle schools, top scores on standardized tests, okay grades in high school because I mentally checked out and didn’t care that much, had honors in college and I take my time to do most things. I don’t see the point of hurrying for no reason. I point out being an only child because I did not compete with a sibling for time, whether it was chores, eating, or showers, so I’m much slower than people I’ve been around who did compete for time. She may have ADD, most girls with it who were high functioning never got diagnosed. I’m certain I have it, but don’t have any interest in testing right now. Maybe later, and this is fully a symptom.
Sometimes, people who are amazing in the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and books, lack skills in life. It is crazy to think about, because people usually do not realize this. The way I see it is that it is not as complicated to have people and life skills as it as to build a computer. Building a computer takes different thinking, and more critical, that not just anybody can do. I was wrong when I realized that this is not entirely true, as it is easy for me to have life and people skills, but it is just as easy for those people to build computers. To us, other things are easier, but to them, this is what is easier for them. I’m just kidding. Some, not all, brainy folks are unaware of their physical surroundings and how to interact with it. They are literally ‘inside of their head’ thinking.
My aunt had a roommate that was a genius. Multiple degrees. Absolute mega brain on this woman, but she did really dumb stuff like put their toilet brush in the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and dishwasher to wash it. Sometimes smart people can have blind spots. I’m not genius or anything but I’m pretty quick, in my biased opinion. Still, I was around 33 years old when I finally made the connection between pickles coming from cucumbers. Somehow I’d gone that many years without making that connection, but I design buildings for a living People can be smart about different things. People do min/max to some extent. No one knows everything, and the people who go for breadth usually don’t have much depth. Well my ex partner was an honours student and went into the medical field but in the mundane day to day life she was helpless and kind of … dumb.
Being good in school, particularly in levels lower than college. It’s most all about the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and ability to memorize content and recite it on command. What we often call “street smarts” is simply not taught at all. The ability to take in observable information, and make judgements on situations or people is just not present. Yet all good students know what year Columbus landed. Human brains are complex. Different people are really good at different things. But school kind of only rewards a single kind of person. Someone who can sit still, write in a notebook, pay attention and recite what the teacher teaches. Have you ever had the experience of a teacher writing a test question that takes 2 areas of knowledge that were taught separately and mashes them together? There’s a certain kind of “smart” kid who just fails to grasp that the concepts are related at all or that the knowledge from one page of the book can be applied to another page. They say things like “this was never covered in class” and “this was not in the book”
In my first year university physics class the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and prof had us do an exercise. Go outside the building and guess at the number of windows. For every 1 window away from the real answer you got a 30 second penalty. We all ran outside and started counting. 1 person ran outside, looked at the building and ran back inside. He didn’t count, he just looked and guessed. He was off by 5, but was 2 minutes ahead of the next fastest person (who was only off by 1), and it took another minute for the 3rd person (who had the correct number) to come in. The 2 wrong people tied for first, the correct person got third (or second, depending on how you count a tie). But the point is, speed and accuracy are linked. Sometimes it’s better to be fast, sometimes it’s better to be right but most of life sits somewhere in the middle.
I think I am reasonably smart and wise, but I need to ponder things and aren’t great at snap decisions. I too grew up in a rural area, maybe it’s just the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and slower pace of life doesn’t teach you to think quickly. Sometimes the difference between good and bad school results is whether or not you do your homework. A smart person who doesn’t do HW can fail everything, a less smart person who does it can get all As and Bs. Many people confuse speed with intelligence! They aren’t the same… yes.. you can be more productive and seem more with it, but I have many family members who are crazy smart and take their time. This is very much a product of “colonialism” — this idea that speed = efficiency = intelligence. In my honest opinion, being a “fast thinker” is not necessarily a sign of intelligence- quite often the most intelligent people I know are the ones who slowly absorb information and prioritize taking the time to digest it rather than those who immediately “get it” and categorize the knowledge neatly away in their memory filed under whatever “first impression” they had. Quite often the latter group can misunderstand and not actually get it at all or will understand the theory but not how it applies or vice versa.
Getting things done as quickly as possible is very much a product of industrialism that has been reinforced by capitalism, but I would argue that most of the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and greatest thinkers in human history tend to think slowly, and take the time to become acquainted with all the small details and nuances relating to any given subject, rather than being the type to quickly do things or accept an idea as fact based on surface knowledge. Thinkers are better at thinking (and not necessarily quicky) and Doers are better at doing, often quickly (and sometimes without thinking) Both are important elements of our society, but I would argue a lot of modern societies tend to place more emphasis on the doers, thus this conception we have that productivity = intelligence. There are many ways that people learn, retain and use information and apply experience. My wife is very smart, has a PHD, does technical writing and a slew of other advanced skills that are in demand within several fields.
She’s more intuitive and I’m more systematic. I have an easier time with things like Ikea instructions and planning a multi stage home improvement project, whereas she can leapfrog ideas and eventually land somewhere that makes sense. I’m also better at some practical skills like driving. Being good in school is often just knowing how to navigate the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and system. It also doesn’t often teach practical application or real world use. Working a job will teach you within two weeks more than you would learn in two months of related classroom work. So learning is school is a good start, but hands on is always different. All and I mean All of the highly intelligent people I know are not handy with anything that requires hand and brain coordination! They never needed to learn! I mean, realistically, she’s probably depressed, which makes sufferers slow even in remission. On the upside (for you), that probably lowered her self esteem enough to marry your dumb ass.
I know a guy that was an absolute genius in highschool. He aced every test given without studying and sleeping through class. Yet he only became a server at a restaurant. It’s not a bad thing but he couldn’t figure out socializing and all that. Another guy was just barely getting by in school and now he is running his own business and working on opening his 5th location. I was very brilliant growing up, however, I was diagnosed with epilepsy around 11. As I grew older I had more seizures. It’s likely I had some concussions, while I’m not saying this makes me dumb, it certainly has screwed up my brain a bit. And that’s OK! Life is full of challenges. School/academics are a skill. It is not always an indication of competency in anything aside from it. Some of the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and smartest and most capable people I know were not good at school and some of the academics I know have the worst executive function I have ever seen. I scored in the 99th pecentile on rhe verbal portion of the SAT. I scored functionally retarded in Math. Nowadays when some one refers to me as smart, I say “just don’t ask me the answer to 2+2.” I was in both for a year they didn’t know what my issue was. Ended up finishing highschool magnet/honors though. Just about every “brilliant” person is like this. It’s pretty much reverse ADD. they focus in so much on their field of study that, and get catered to their whole lives by parents, then schools, then employers, that they don’t know where to start handling any real world practical things.
Some people are only good at a certain type of task or thinking. My ex husband was this way. Great programmer, and engineer. Legit could not figure out how to open of close a packet of diaper wipes one time…..just ripped it open and left it to dry out because he “didn’t know what to do”. He had changed diapers before! Apparently I was the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and only one opening wipes though. I don’t know about NY state public school standards, but I moved to New Jersey from Alabama right before the start of my junior year in highschool after my Dad got transferred with his company to their office in Morristown, NJ from Birmingham, AL. I was an okay student in Alabama but struggled mightily in New Jersey. The public school standards in NJ schools were just so much higher. The curriculum, the expectations, even the grading scale was higher. In Alabama, the grading scale was done in 10 pt increments between each letter grade. In New Jersey, schools used a 7 pt scale difference between letter grades which makes a world of difference coming from a school system that doesn’t prepare you for it.
For example, an A was 90-100 in Alabama schools whereas in New Jersey to make an A you had to score 93 or better -which, when you scale it out that way, has the Oklahoma Sooners Softball Women’s College World Series Stripe NCAA 2025 shirt and by the same token and lowest passing grade score of 69, which is the top of a letter grade “D” in Alabama schools (60-69). So ya, I had to work my tail off my junior and senior years just to catch up, keep my head above water, and my GPA somewhat decent going into college. I would find it hard to believe that New York schools are that much different from New Jersey schools given the proximity to Ivy League colleges and universities in that part of the NE but maybe hers was an exception. Everyone has different strengths & weaknesses. Kind of dislike that phrasing because of the connotations they have, but there are skills she could probably use some working on, if even necessary. There could be things she wasn’t expected to handle growing up. It can also be other things like being burnt out. Not sure how long you’ve been together or anything like that, but there’s usually different factors involved in that, like which daily tasks are you talking about? And when you say slow, she takes her time or you’re, in other words, claiming she’s aloof &/or incompetent? Sounds like she takes time to complete her tasks, which is not the same as street smart vs book smart, as some people are saying. She may also not be accustomed to performing some tasks — for example, my dad always handled cleaning & organizing. He was extremely peculiar about things, obsessive-like, & very neat. He was very hands-on & has good spatial perception.
