I had to go into hospital once the Official scuba Diving Same planet different world T-Shirt Also,I will get this day before my interview, was kept overnight so I did the interview anyway from my hospital bed the next day. The interviewer realised where I was and started laughing, and just told me that he would reschedule, which he did. As someone who sometimes gives interviews (at a software company), it usually isn’t a huge deal. Especially if this was a first round interview or phone screen kind of thing. It’s mildly annoying to have to reschedule things, but most companies aren’t going to ‘blacklist’ someone for having to miss/reschedule an interview last minute. It’s a little more serious if you had to miss something like a full day on-site interview at the last minute, since more people are involved. And flaking on an interview with no notice or explanation is a bad look. But obviously emergencies do happen and usually companies will be understanding. And like some other commenters said, if the company is not understanding about something like this, you probably don’t want to work there.

That recruiter was wildly unprofessional. If this is a third party recruiter (ie, not somebody employed by the Official scuba Diving Same planet different world T-Shirt Also,I will get this company), they’re basically on commission and only get paid if you get hired. Some of them really don’t care at all about the people they’re working with and only see them as a way to earn money. Frankly, you don’t want to work with someone like that anyway. You didn’t screw up, this recruiter is nuts. Showing up sick (especially if contagious) would have made a horrible impression and been such a distraction the interview would have gone down in flames. If the recruiter is from an agency, don’t worry plenty of other agencies out there. You could even hear from another rep from the agency if they ever come across you. If the recruiter is from the company, no big deal. Assuming the recruiter is not representative of the corporate culture then HR has way too much power to get away with this. The department you interviewed for would be OK for a while. Sooner or later HR’s influence would come through. We have no idea how the company feels, only what the recruiter said the company said, and this is a person who will get $$$ if you get hired. They have an interest in making you go in to interview.
