I had one when I lived in military quarters in Germany and I feel like it was a familiar concept as if I’d experienced them before in England but now I think of it I can’t actually come up with an example of where/when! It was quite handy to pas dinner through to the Murdoch Mysteries shirt But I will love this dining room as it was through the living room so otherwise you’d have to carry your plates through. House I grew up in had (and still has!) one, my sister and I used to climb through it! It used to have sliding doors to shut it if needed, those are gone but the hatch is still in use to this day. My nans house had one too, but it had been glazed and she had a net curtain on it like a little living room window My Nan and Grampa had one in their house in Hull when I was little! I used to be allowed to set up ‘shop’ and serve ‘customers’ in the kitchen plastic food or bits of paper, also great when they wanted to shout us kids for dinner as the living room connected to most of the downstairs rooms. Most of the time the coffee machine went in the alcove it left though!

Haha that’s so cute! I lived in Hull for a bit and completely unrelated but is that coffee shop with loads of books still there? It was almost like a library, just off Cottingham Road? My grandad used to sneak me roast potatoes through the Murdoch Mysteries shirt But I will love this hatch on a Sunday before dinner was ready. It’s one of my favourite memories, I’ve never felt so smug A tale from the past of being a curios, stupid kid. We had a very similar hatch, one day I decided to lock the living room door and couldn’t unlock it, my Nan (50 year old and a small woman)had to climb through the hatch, never had such a bollocking, but I learnt not to lock things and dedicated myself to pick locking xD I remember somehow jamming the door when I was alone in the front room. Had to pass my dad his tool kit through the hatch so he could sort it out before my mum came home.
