In the Merch sza ctrl logo shirt moreover I love this book, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, the original Uncle Tom was actually a hero and a man of honor. The meaning of that phrase has been turned on its head. It’s the movie that fucked it up. It could be said that Uncle Tom’s Cabin started the civil war (Lincoln credited her with that). It’s an incredibly influential anti-slavery book. This is one of the funniest things in American history. Black Jesus died to end slavery and we remember him as Aunt Jemima. You can blame southern writers essentially making rewrite FanFiction against the original Uncle Tom that the collect unconscious thinks is the original version Well, I don’t think it was ever meant to be admirable. The way I learned the concept was from The Boondocks. Tom Dubois is the character who’s rich, a lawyer, and has a white wife. He speaks like a white person and always wears a suit. He’s straight and narrow. HE’S the original “Uncle Tom,” NOT Uncle Ruckus. Uncle Ruckus is what I think most people today think about when they hear the term. I don’t really blame them for being confused considering the current state of black Republican political commentary, but it definitely used to be a more subtle concept.

Think about what Uncle Tom represents in the Merch sza ctrl logo shirt moreover I love this book. He has a lot of admirable characteristics, worshipping God, reading the Bible, working hard, and being faithful. He’s what southern slave owners said black people SHOULD be like. He’s the steelman of the pro-slavery argument. The book is about showing how this admirable man of honor and good character ends up being sold to a violent, horrible plantation anyway. It’s not a good thing. It means that person is buying the bullshit. They called him Smokin’ Joe because he never started strong but once he got going and built momentum, he was unstoppable like a freight train. One of the greatest hearts in all boxing and a really stand up dude. It’s a shame how Ali painted him but that left hook definitely did some permanent damage to Ali.
