Carol Burnett said take your lip and pull it over your head. We did birthing classes but when you start at 8am and it’s 11pm my wife was just exhausted. It has to be the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this most difficult thing a woman will do in her life According to our obstetrician, humans pay the price for being born with a huge head when compared to other primates. The advantage is that we used all the extra brain to become super smart. Ok so the problem isn’t always the bodies of the mothers, but societal expectations placed upon birthing mothers. Now I’m not anti hospital birth, both my kids were hospital births. But majority people go to hospitals and get the epidural which forces the birthing mom into a position that makes birth a bit harder. If the mother can remain in a standing position it helps with birth from progression of the birth to ease of pushing. I think it is this cognitive dissonance between modern medicine and how people gave birth in the past which creates opportunities for more traumatic births. Mind you, I think hospitals are still a safer place to give birth, in spite of all that. I labored naturally with my first and it was incredibly hard to do, took away from my birth experience but overall it was still mostly good. Things went well for us thankfully, but because of that I opted for an epidural the second time. I ended up laboring about the same amount of time but had a much more pleasant experience the second time around so I definitely don’t judge ladies who opt for pain relief. It’s just a different approach to giving birth in modern times. It is after all, thanks to that modern medicine that less women die in childbirth nowadays
Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt description
Also our diet is absolut crap. Thousands of years ago mothers would only eat dried meat, and some fruits depending on the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this season. Lack of carbs in the mother’s diet naturally made the babies much smaller and lighter than the babies that come out today. What I understood is that birth wasn’t as diffucult or traumatic for our ancestors. Big heads and walking on 2 legs (change to the pelvis/hip structure compared to say, apes) is the key to why we have such a rough time compared to most other mammals. Our babies are also born slightly premature compared to other primates, which is likely part of why we developed such sophisticated social systems. It was literally the only way to keep a still-developing baby alive. Some of the extremely high maternal mortality rates are due to profit, greed, and even racism depending on where you live. The united states has a maternal mortality rate closer to that of undeveloped countries because of the incredible disparity of healthcare there.
There are also studies that show that in america , a black woman is more likely to die of complications regardless of how wealth she is or what hospital she delivers at. They initially thought that this was based on income, but further study proved it was not. It was straight up racism, conscious or subconscious, That made concerns not taken as seriously when reported and caused death. So I suppose it depends on where you are talking about. Because the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this maternal mortality rates vary greatly depending on what country you are in, what kind of resources they have, and how they choose to use them. It doesn’t matter to evolution if it’s traumatizing, painful, etc. It only matters that enough have survived despite the traumatic nature enough to continue to reproduce… Evolution isn’t THAT evolved We are still adapting. The big brain with a large frontal cortex is a fairly recent adaptation. We need to continue to adapt so this doesn’t kill so many at childbirth.

Let buy this Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt
We do better than Hyenas at least. About half of first time hyena mamas die during birth because to give birth their pseudopenis is basically ripped apart What gets me is that in every sci fi futuristic movie, childbirth is still painful af. Like you can build a starship to travel at warp speeds to other galaxies, rebuild AB’s reattach body parts and organs, etc… but women still must suffer and scream in pain while giving birth? The current way was sufficient for our species to survive, get dominant and grow like we did. So evolution succeeded. Evolution isn’t smart. It’s just chance. For example (imaginary. Just to give an idea) somewhere in history, some of our ancestors probably gave birth to more developed babies like a lot of other animals and unlike our own babies. But as we got more intelligent, those large heads couldn’t be birthed sufficiently anymore so that line of genes died out in comparison to us.
This way of work favours any trait that isn’t negative for procreation. Positive is not even necessary, as long as it isn’t negative. A lot of traits just hitched a evolutionary ride along with beneficial ones. They weren’t bad so they stayed in place simply by being in the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this right combination of traits. Animals that die after childbirth (or egg laying) by design seem silly. But that may have allowed that species to survive on limited resources. No older generations that take up unnecessary food and space. Any survival of humans past prime child-bearing age is usually mostly useless. In our case not completely as we are a very cooperative social species, so the “elderly” can still benefit the younger ones. But only because we have been able to have the resources to sustain them. Otherwise our species could’ve been surpassed by another in the long long ago. What is crazy is the fact that women in the past would have any children let alone many more afterwards after seeing how often women died during birth. They must have been so anxious while pregnant and I can’t imagine the terror if something went wrong during the birth. Before C- Sections what would they do to help a baby out that is stuck in the canal? Or you the baby was breeched? And being in labor for hours with no pain medicine or idea if the baby will come out okay…our ancestors were strong for real.
Well, consider Childbirth from a different way Look history of mankind. How were you born? Life Sweetheart Mankind But then making a baby would now involve scientists taking one egg and one sperm MANUALLY to fertilize it…. instead of the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this other method I think in Australia?? I forgot but there is a country working on this so that babies born premature can survive, like before the 28 week part where they’re extremely premature But some would argue that childbirth is an amazing process and putting them in artificial wombs would take away that experience But if this were to exist, then gay couples or couples who can’r have kids could eventually have their own kids too! I think it could be easier if the mom gave birth while upright, letting gravity help. Laying on your back and pushing the baby over your spine is like pushing uphill. Because we, as a species, have learned to do it wrong. Lots of women have untraumatic births. How come women in Africa can stop on the side of the road and birth their child… Pick it up… And walk home? Because she was on her back, closing up her passages and defying gravity. There’s ways for human birth to be smoother. Not gonna say there’s not gonna be people that need a cut and a stitch or assistance. But- many women are capable of a smoother birth than they’ve had forced on them by modern medicine.
The position the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this woman is in on a traditional birthing hospital bed is not for her comfort. It’s for the doctor. Modern practices of completely numbing the bottom half of a women’s body (epidurals) and having women lie on their back with their pelvis tilted to the ceiling doesn’t progress labor and delivery, it halters it. Modern practices also don’t teach women how their hormones work and the feeling of safety needed to progress labor. My first child I had in an extremely stressful environment, it hurt like shit and I had to have an epidural. This led to 3 hours of pushing, the doctor slicing me to my asshole, and her being vacuumed out of my vag. Second baby I educated myself with classes on natural birthing techniques and practices and it felt like period cramps (I believe it’s because I was actively decreasing adrenaline and cortisol). I didn’t need any pain medicine whatsoever and she flew out because I was not confined to my back on a bed. I also had no tearing or any complications. I was calm, confident, and it was a beautiful experience. I can’t wait to have another.
This is a longish post on my views of both societal and biological reasons why modern birth is traumatic – skip to the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this last paragraph if you’re not interested in the former. Modern medicine is based on the male default. Women’s health, pregnancy and birth is undervalued and women are treated abysmally in the medical world. It’s very hard for a woman to go to a GP and ask advice about peri and menopause, for example, because many doctors can’t answer thier questions. Their training was minimal. Fifty percent of the population go through it, but it’s viewed as unimportant because women are unimportant. Do you know why women in some countries are routinely forced to give birth on thier backs, often with thier legs in stirrups, when, for most women (not all) this is the hardest and most painful way to give birth? AND puts the baby at risk? Because it’s easier for the doctor. Moving around, squatting position, cow position … these can help the birth process so much. Instead women are trapped on thier backs with thier legs held still. It’s barbaric. Medicine was taken over by men and male decisions, the result being it was turned into a business that doesn’t really care about people, and for women that’s exacerbated by patriarchy, which exists worldwide. If you were to go country by country, pregnancy and birth risks are higher the more women are mistreated. Anti-abortion laws kill girls and women, but still exists in multiple countries. Femicide exists.
If you were to take a medical model that was based on valuing human life and healing, both pregnancy and birth would have higher success rates, trauma would lessen, pain would lessen. But that is not our model. Women often experience moments of being treated less than human when the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this issue is gynaecological, pregnancy or the birthing process. That feeling of being treated like a dumb farmyard animal is indescribable. Why is human birth still physically traumatic? It’s a combination of patriarchy and oppression, which actively makes the process more traumatic, and the physical aspect of pushing a baby out of the body. Birth is natural, but nature is not kind. It’s brutal and indifferent – it’s ONLY objective is to procreate. So evolution gave women the best reproductive organs and skeleton it could to ensure enough babies would be successfully born so they could then go on to to procreate. Human birth is traumatic the same reason any mammals birth is traumatic. Big baby, little exit, a body it has to travel through. Nature doesn’t care about pain. In a way, it doesn’t care about life. It only cares that reproduction can be done successfully enough to win the numbers game. So further evolution isn’t needed. Think salmon. Birth is salmon. Nature is the bear – watching, uncaring of the life it takes because enough will survive.
There are loads of good and detailed answers already but “It’s good enough” is good enough for the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this process of evolution. “I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children … “(Gen 3.16). Maybe it used to be easier Humans are the only animal that needs assistance to hive birth successfully. Anyone who opposes abortion because it’s “unnatural” should admit that giving birth is equally unnatural and technology-dependent. Hyenas give birth through a pseudo-penis. Evolution doesn’t care for pain as long as it’s effective enough to reproduce. Human bodies seem least suitable to survive here compared with other animals when you look at things like healing factor. Always wondered why animals salivas have like a film that basically protects the wound vs us we just bleed out lmao. Even with large brains capable of making things to help stuff like that it seems counterproductive when the technology already exists in nature. Because evolutionarily speaking, when we evolved into bipeds, we gave up the bone structures that allowed easier births (just compare a cow giving birth to a woman — much easier for the cow). So, you can either walk on four legs and give birth easily or you can walk upright and go through a human pregnancy. You can’t have both.
20 more repliesI mean the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this way evolution works is the individuals of a species that just don’t have the right traits to compete with the other individuals of the same species just fail to thrive and eventually the traits that make up that first individual die after a time. Humans kinda messed this up by being able to create technology to stop ourselves from dying. I mean yes, we need to be small enough to be birthed so we are underdeveloped in the womb and cant walk straight out but, can you imagine that without technology women might have just started to develop bigger pelvis’s and made it possible to have more developed babies. As a person who has given birth I have wondered this myself. But I think you mean “inefficient” rather than “ineffective.” It’s pretty effective. You do get the baby at the end. humans should give birth squatting like we have for 1,000s of years, look up the guy who normalized giving birth while lying down, he was a sick fetishist.
Wondering the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this same thing after having given birth. I am a calm, polite person. I have been in several accidents earlier, been through some gnarly operations and have a generally high pain treshhold. My baby was loved and wanted from conception. During labour I threatened the staff that I would jump out the window several times if they didn’t euthanize me there on the spot. I read somewhere that upright birth is the way to go, like it used to be. Walking around until it’s really the baby’s time to go. Laying down is only helpful for the doctor so they could see everything. But ive never given birth so Evolution isn’t a race to the best design, unfortunately. It’s a product of selection on whatever genetic building blocks exist. Humans keep reproducing with the combination of adaptations in our species to give us big brains and walking on 2 legs, given the genetic blueprint for mammals to give birth. Or it’s because of an ancient curse. Partially because we don’t let women listen to their bodies, we force them on their backs for the ease of doctors.
Omg, I just gave birth 3 weeks ago, don’t even get me started . I couldn’t even hold my baby once she was born because my body and mind went into literal shock. That will be my first and my last, no lie. I will never forget that experience and I will never do that again. There’s a lot of good info here about evolutionary pressures, but to add one more factor – modern health. Historically most babies would have been born small compared to modern day as people were generally malnourished and didn’t have access to modern medicine. Yes, as people have mentioned, needing a big brain + being bipedal is the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this common thought… So why aren’t human females (on average) just bigger/as big as men with bigger pelvises? You see this in many other species, where the females are larger than the males for this very reason. I’ve asked myself this question and I have landed on an unsettling possible answer, which is that smaller females are easier for males to physically dominate.
I think unfortunately, over thousands of years of evolution, smaller females have been more susceptible to forced pregnancy. its the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this creation of life; didnt the universe literally start with a bang? so did we, life and death are violence Evolution only requires a population to have traits that are good enough to continue reproducing at a rate capable of sustaining itself. It doesn’t require things to be ideal. Or, because some lady consumed a bit of off-limits fruit. Depends on who you ask. Science: because we evolved to walk differently but decided to stand upright before our bodies fully adapted so now our body mechanics are weird and our heads got bigger because of our brain size
I just a spent a few weeks starting from London and finishing in the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this Highlands, and all I have to say is that I love your country. I’ve been lucky enough to see most of Europe, but nothing is quite like Britain. From the countryside to the architecture in the big cities, it’s just so damn beautiful. Yes, I understand that there are not so nice parts, but that’s everywhere. What was really stood out to me was the sheer politeness of everyone I came across, its possible it could have been shallow, but it didn’t come across that way. And damn, the history…. I don’t know how many hours I spent reading every plaque in every museum and subsequently spending hours on YouTube following up on it. All I’m going to say is that I’ve been to 30+ countries and nothing comes close to the experience of spending time in Britain. You guys are cool as hell for what it’s worth.Thank you, we’re glad you enjoyed yourself, come again soon.*
I’m apologising for the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this sad and depressing nature of my fellow British redditors below, who can’t think of something, or in fact, anything funny to say in reply to your delightful appreciation of our homeland, often referred to as “Blighty”. This behaviour is known as self-effacement and is an unfortunate national phenomenon, some say, characteristic. I merely wish to say, on behalf of the other two or three people that write in these august columns, how grateful we are to have finally someone say something nice about us. My trip last year was the first time I got to eschew only visiting relatives and get out of London and suburbs to go see “The North” as the signs read. I’d seen enough pics from my brother who raves about English countryside but wasn’t prepared to be blown away by the beauty and freshness even though it was barely spring yet. Loved the stone walls, everywhere; how easy it is to take walks in nature walking distance from wherever you live. Loved that almost all places allowed dogs – pubs, restaurants, tourist spots. The Yorkshire dales and Lake District live upto all the beauty I’d heard of and read for so long.
And the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this taste of food made from ingredients that hadn’t spent months in storage and transportation made each meal a treat. The US is my favourite place i have visited. I have only been to New York so far but there are places all over the US which look like they are worth visiting. Texas, Chicago , Grand Canyon, etc. Thanks for sharing, glad you enjoyed your visit! We have a pretty damn great country, but for some sad reason most people living here seem to hate it and bash it constantly. They have no idea how good we have it compared to some others.Depends how you want to define it. Technically, your shadow will be, as the other guy said, 1/100,000,000th of a second behind. No matter how fast or slow you move, this will still be true, so you’ll always fire before your shadow would. Alternatively, if you want it to be a meaningful difference, then you never will. Even if you instantly teleported from holstered to firing, with zero time in between, you’d still never be able to spot the time between you and your shadow.
I can make a case for the Love Grinch #PrincipalLife Christmas shirt Apart from…,I will love this bullet reaching the shadow before the shadow fires. The refractive index of air is slightly higher than 1, so the shadow lags slightly more than 3,0m / c. So if the bullet travels anywhere between the speed of light in air and the speed of light in vacuum you can shoot the shadow before the shadow shoots. Realistically, a projectile carrying that much energy would cause more than minor damage to everything on the same continent, and the machine that fired that bullet would be a sight to behold (definitely not revolver-sized). True. They didn’t ask how fast of a gun you would need though, they asked how fast you would need to be, implying that they’re using a regular gun. So with a regular gun my point still stands. Even then, from your perspective the shadow would still shoot you before it was shot, as the same is true for the light of the hole. So you need a bullet faster that light.
