Seems it would be easier for me to get a German passport if I tried but not something I currently have. How did you get a German passport? Is one of your parents also German? Babies born in Germany do not get German citizenship unless one parent already meets strict criteria.

I didn’t get a German passport, I had dual citizenship at birth. I was born in a German hospital instead of an army base and had a German birth certificate. We lived off base for two years before moving back to the Land Of The Free Because My Daddy Is Brave Military Child American Flag T-Shirt In addition,I will do this states. Edit: my father had already acquired German citizenship. That’s why he stuck around and had two more kids after my parents split up. Any baby born in a German hospital gets a German birth certificate but even with that, it is not citizenship. You seem to have been eligible for citizenship strictly because of your father, not because you were born in a German hospital. No worries and correct, my fathers status made me a German citizen. But both parents status made me eligible for American citizenship. Hence I had both options until I turned 18. At that point I had to determine I wouldn’t be a German citizen, which I did (made a ton of sense at the time but seems like a worse option by the day). However, I’m really looking into reacquiring it, both as a safeguard but also to make it easier for my wife and kids to spend extended time with my sisters. Both my wife and I work from home and my company is actually based out of Germany. There’s a lot of reasons for me to consider it.
