One of my senior year high school teachers told us the story of how she was driving down the highway and saw what looked like an 18 year old standing next to his broken down car with hazards on. One the way back about about an hour later, she saw the boy being covered on a stretcher and there were police and ambulances. A car had struck him during that time. She told us this story to teach us to never get out of the car and stand near it on the highway. I’ve never forgotten it.
About 15 years ago, one of my friends who lived in my dorm at college was driving to meet a friend during a light snow storm. I sort of agree with a few exceptions. After all, I can’t change a tire, check engine issues and remedy them from ten feet away (like oil or antifreeze). In those situations all you can do is be quick, safe and hyper aware of your surroundings. Hello! First of all, I would like to get started by saying that, please don’t take this rant/post to heart, I just felt really alone, and frustrated. I am currently studying in 10th grade, and I know I am too young to think about such things, but just hear me out, okay? I never could understand why guys would look at me like I was this horrid thing, or why the girls in my class would try cutting or bleaching their faces, just because, quote, “they were different.” In fact, now that I think of it, my parents actually made me believe that having a tan skin, was equivalent to having a superpower cause darker women were usually more confident, traditional, smart and with a whole lot of brains.
