Overall I thought it was… pretty obviously inferior to the Just hit it shirt moreover I love this Nolan franchise (not even in the same ballpark as The Dark Knight). I’m tired and so I’m not going to put the effort into describing all the problems there are with this movie but I will just say good god was the acting horrendous – the script certainly did not help. Also, Batman as basically a nonverbal angsty teenager was boring. It was an awesome film but I actually agree in this case that it didn’t need to be 3 hours. There’s plenty of films that have been neutered by runtime, but this isn’t one of them imo. I really liked it as a whole though. I think there was too much Gordon and too little Alfred but outside of that it was solid. As a long time fan though I was disappointed that the plot of him finding out his father wasn’t totally wholesome and dealing with that was kinda trite. Was hoping for something more complex maybe? The film felt really small, like every character had some family relation or history together. I feel like some of the negative reception to this film is a consequence of the MCU dominating the superhero movie space for so long. I’m sure lot of people went into this movie thinking there was gonna be a fight scene every 10 minutes and quippy one-liners throughout the entire runtime. Not to say those things are always bad, but I swear some people instantly write off an “action movie” when they actually take significant time to develop the story. It’s funny to me how a lot of die-hard MCU fans have been really critical of this slower, more character focused cloak and dagger movie when the best MCU movie is sort of similar (Winter Soldier).

For this same reason, I feel that if Batman Begins dropped this year, people would criticize it for being too boring for the Just hit it shirt moreover I love this first hour, when I think it executed the Batman origin story to almost perfection. This Batman doesn’t even waste time with the origin story we all know, and it really cuts right to the chase with the establishment of an antagonist, the protagonist, and I think nearly perfectly sets up the string of mysteries without being too exposition-y at all. It definitely is a long movie, and it is by no means fast-moving – but I don’t think that is necessarily a bad thing. I personally love that DC (at least with The Batman and Joker) is going back to the grounded and dark types of storylines that I fell in love with their comics for in the first place.
