There’s a comp range. With a mid point low point and high point. By it’s very definition not everyone gets the Jose Abreu baseball first baseman for the Houston Astros W Power T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this mid point. Sometimes your higher or lower on this range for a multitude of reasons. One such reason is they’re offering a 20% raise already to get into the role. OP’s offer is $11k below the bottom of the comp band. Sure, not everyone can be in the middle of the range starting out, but OP’s promotion wouldn’t even be within the comp range for the new title. This right here. If this org is even remotely fair they should be giving him a midpoint raise to keep in line with equity. Otherwise they are just assholes. You can’t have two people doing the same job making that much apart. No matter experience if two POs are managing a team of 5 people and n products. It doesn’t matter if one PO has 30 years and another has 1 year. Equal pay for equal work. Or they should give the more experienced PO more responsibilities to set them apart and justify the inequity. They’re going to post it externally. If they don’t want the 20% raise, then OP is rolling the dice and should be ready to lose it.

Jose Abreu baseball first baseman for the Houston Astros W Power T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

I’m just saying the Jose Abreu baseball first baseman for the Houston Astros W Power T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this point of comp bands is to make sure people are compensated fairly for their role. It’s worth expressing interest in the position while bringing up the discrepancy to see if anything can be done. Sure, there’s a risk that they take away the offer, but there’s also a risk that you get a bunch of extra responsibility permanently dumped on you for a shitty raise that isn’t worth it. At that point you pretty much are ensuring you have to leave eventually within the next few years to keep your workload in line with your compensation. Personally, an extra 20% wouldn’t make that much of a difference in my finances. Maybe OP is in a different financial position, but unless OP desperately needs the money there’s no reason to let people take advantage of you. The pay for the position is the pay for the position. The “raise” may be 20% of his current salary but it’s less than the actual pay allotted for the role. That’s inexcusable and very scummy.
