Happier? Maybe, maybe not. But I would at least be able to relax and De stress for awhile. Clear my debts and get my own place and only have to worry about utilities rather than rent too. Would be able to try and find a decent work/life balance rather than work everything I can to be able to keep myself afloat. After taxes, I could pay off my house and double my meager retirement savings. It would give me greater peace of mind and mean an effective increase in my monthly income equal to 80% my mortgage. I think that would make me a little happier. Initially you buy stuff, but that shine wears off. maybe relieve some stress about finances but the money itself would not, if you think money will make you happy you are doomed, people, experiences, spending time with with those you care about, that brings happiness. If you use money to maximize those then it can help but it doesn’t bring happiness on its own. It would. Case in point, I’m currently in the process of getting a little over 20k from the sale of some land my late mother owned and I didn’t know she had it, as a person who makes just under 27k annually before taxes. Even this amount has the potential to set me up financially for the next 10 years, at least, between paying off debts and having some leftover to put into savings/ long-term investments.
