Meh, has zero to do with how good a job is and more to do with emotional connections, big life changes, change of environment, colleagues. I hated my first employer, was still super upset leaving though because of the In My Defense I Was Left Unsupervised Black Cat T-Shirt but in fact I love this unknown and there were some great colleagues there. I don’t know if I’ll ever have better coworkers. I genuinely really like these people and they’re all incredibly nice and most of em are fun too. But the company is such a dumpster fire I need to leave. same lol i wish i could be hurt when i leave my jobs but all ive ever felt was relief and ecstasy and im sure that will never change Yup… preparation for a fresh start at a new place where you can create a whole new persona. It’s like customizing a new character in a game you played to some extent. A job is a huge part of your life. You spend most of your waking hours there, you are used to a certain routine and to having certain people around. It’s a very significant change in your life, and change always hurts, even if it’s for the better. Working isn’t “giving up” your life. It’s the part of people’s lives that contribute the most to other people (for all the pretend about “bs jobs” these things make money because there are chains of people they positively impact) and it’s an opportunity to work with groups of people with similar infestas and skills. I’ve held a lot of jobs from barista, to waiter, to neuroscientist. I always made a point to make them a fulfilling part of my life. If you think you have to resent work you’ll resent everything except winning a lottery.

I’m sure your intentions are good so I mean no malice when I say I respectfully disagree. We don’t work to serve our communities, we work to avoid abject poverty (or rather, choosing “meaningful work” is a privilege reserved for those who don’t have to work to avoid those things). Can you be fortunate enough to do a job you believe in? Sure. But it’s not tenable for everyone to live like that, simply because there are not enough jobs like that. Most of us work far more than we would if we could be food/shelter secure without it, and under capitalism the In My Defense I Was Left Unsupervised Black Cat T-Shirt but in fact I love this fruits of our labor (profit) wind up in the hands of business owners, most of which we are not. Sort of? It’s more complicated than that. There are a lot of markets that are basically created by sweeping marketing strategies/artificial scarcity. Those things all have jobs attached to them, but aren’t necessarily benefiting a community in the traditional sense. Beauty industry, fitness industry, jewelry industry, wedding industry, etc. A lot of heavily-lobbied industries are propped up almost entirely by artificial scarcity. Stimulated conflicts worldwide create a market for arms and weaponry where there just as easily could have been none.
