But I still expect the senior engineers to set an impeccable standard in their programming, so the junior engineers have a model to follow when they need it. So it shouldn’t be a question of comparing you to fresh grads, more like evaluating how you meet the common technical bar for code submission that we all share. Oh I dont think you are wrong.. but I also do not believe most companies have the same concept of a senior level engineer. OFten its just a title because you’ve got 4 years in or something and they feel you should move up in title (and pay maybe). It’s different at every company. When I ask a manager what I as a tech lead should do.. it’s to lead a team of senior/mid engineers. Be the tech decision maker.. but mostly lead. Yet in my company, I dont lead anyone (never have) and we just code. The same as juniors/mids/seniors. So whats the point of having a title if it’s not going to be put to use? In many companies I’ve read that titles are often almost made up.. and in fact you can see tons of various similar title names in sales, marketing, hr, etc.. titles I’ve never heard of before in a lot of companies. Because that company decided to name a person “this title”.. which means nothing in other companies.

Still. They have the title and pay, but most of the time I see jrs doing more work than seniors. I don’t agree with this take. I absolutely agree that leetcode is BS. But hiring people without seeing them coding at all is asking for trouble. I don’t trust your resume, and titles in this field are meaningless. There’s a ton of “seniors” with 2 years of experience nowadays. So I’m going to make you write some code because I want to make sure you can write logical and maintainable code, but I’m not going to make you solve puzzles or LC-style problems.
