I was using SpeakOut 711 until recently. There are cell phones that are like $20 from 711. You can get plans, but if you don’t have a monthly plan, then you pay 20 cents a text (and 35 cents a minute for calls). I use about 500 MB data each month. Usually it is software updates requested of me, rather than my own surfing. If I want to watch a movie, or do a lot of downloading, I do it at home for free, and on a much bigger screen. So, if I pay for a 400 MB monthly data plan, I can still make calls and send texts. Each text cost $0.16 and calls are $0.16 per minute. It works out a lot cheaper to have a voice conversation with someone than to send several texts. Also, if they are on the same network as me, calls and texts are free.
