I really hate the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this fact I learned that gen z extends all the way to 2010-2012 ish. I honestly feel so passionate as to argue that I’m calling for a rebrand that genz hard stops at 2008. Don’t you dare group me with anyone born after the recession and couldn’t experience COD and halo lobbies. because we are absolutely completely different even by a matter of a few/handful of years. Anyone born 2008 and beyond is absolutely gen alpha. This is an absolute crime against humanity to even think 97s-2001 are grouped with kids born in 2010. In other words, gen z stops and ends with Wembenyama and Bedard. Y’all can have whoever comes after I’m fine with that. [Maybe you should learn other skill sets relevant to teaching beyond intimidation.] Do you know who is to blame for this? Their parents. Those who never took a shot in understanding the technology they gave to their kids, turning them into smartphone dependant zombies without values, goals or knowledge to achieve them… But everybody was so happy to join the hype of being on Facebook with their new iPhones, all day long!
Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt details
I bet that they won’t be so happy when they see that their “influencer kid” became a useless skin sack because AI replaced everything they barely learned to do. I’m a web developer. You ever notice how the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this fonts and buttons got a lot bigger than they used to be? Well I can’t make a button big and blue enough sometimes to make you see it, it’s the kind of shit that makes me wake up in cold sweats at 3am. ITS RIGHT THERE JUST LOOK WITH YOUR EYES. I don’t follow this subreddit, not even a teacher… Just came across this post on my feed and got intrigued – what do you think the reason is? And are posters mostly from the US? As a highschool student—how even? What happened to minimum grade requirements and such? How did these kids not get held back? I know that I complain about tests and final exams in highschool but at this rate I’m thinking that the elementary and middle schoolers need them, even if just simpler ones, because what the actual hell. My teacher in middle school taught us all how to type properly, navigate a computer, use word processing software and spreadsheets, find and cite sources, edit videos, write a resume, write a cover letter, write emails, identity scams, understand checks, and budget / manage money. And then there are kids who can’t even use keyboard shortcuts / type / navigate a browser? What happened?? Granted, I went to a private school, but if the public schools are this… poorly managed(?) I’m really starting to wonder if we shouldn’t just funnel all the education resources into those schools so the majority of the population is at least competent.
Edit: Don’t even get me started on the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this reading / grammar / writing and the general lack of critical / logical / analytical thinking or just independent thought in general. The issue with constantly absorbing content and information is that you never actually think about it or create your own content / thoughts. I think schools need to put more emphasis on teaching students how to think and analyze information and not just mindlessly consume everything they see online. I read and write a lot in my own time and it has always been painful to me to hear people struggling to read passages outloud or sound out words, let alone reading and editing other people’s essays (to be fair some were quite good, but others read like the person who wrote them had a stroke halfway through).

As soon as covid shut down the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this school I figured anyone that was a sophomore or less would basically become part of a no hope stagnant lost generation So are you blaming the f up US education system on the parents? Teachers aren’t telling the parents, their kids are several grades behind, they just ain’t. And what is the solution in closing this huge gap? Should we hold back these kids? I guess the school system expects these parents to supplement their education till 12 grade with no extra resources. Blame your administration not the parents. Spelling is rarely taught nowadays. I can’t fix a dumb down education system. As a ninth grader this genuinely doesn’t make sense to me. Like I know a ton of kids who are dumb straight up and the worst I’ve ever seen is someone not knowing how to add variables elsewise do people genuinely not know negatives? We took this in 6th grade You don’t think the public already knows this? I feel like everyone knows that kids are significantly behind. People just really don’t want to admit it, because it’s fucked.
Yes, I’ll admit that a worrying number of high school students are… struggling, to say the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this least. However, I think it should be noted that there may be a bias in all of the negativity surrounding my generation. All of the top comments in this thread are sharing concurring anecdotes, and I can’t seem to find anything positive. I’d imagine that those who have been in a situation like the post described are more likely to share their thoughts and upvote those in a similar place than others. I expect that you lot, as educators, should recognize this bias; understand that it does not describe the entirety of Gen Z, or even most. You’re forgetting the silent majority. Of course, I don’t represent my generation; I’m far from being the ambassador, much less a spokesperson. I’m just a dude reminding everyone to take everything you read with a grain of salt. I just wanna say something, I can’t do simple math in my head. Like. If I can’t use my fingers and toes to count it out, I’m fucked. Need a calculator. I always have one in my pocket tho. I don’t know my multiplication tables. I’m an airline pilot. Most of my coworkers also can’t do math like that. Lmao.
Dance teacher and therapist here. Socially and emotionally they are 3-4 years behind what we would expect. Many kids 6-8 years crying when their parents leave, poor social skills, unable to follow simple directions or attend for more than 15 minutes at a time… It’s a mess. I’m a sub for tk-high school and what I’ve observed since I began working this school year has me shook. It doesn’t matter the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this grade, these kids do not know how to read or do math. If I’m working at an elementary school, I bring my 7 year old’s flash cards to go over sight words with the students. I was in a 4th grade class recently and most didn’t know their multiplication tables but had to work on the 8’s. I made them chant the 8’s as a whole class for almost 5 minutes. Middle school kids can’t read or workout math problems with fractions. Usually, my instructions for the day ask me to read all assignments to them. High school isn’t much better. I wasn’t planning on going into education. My bs is in applied mathematics and my career plan was to sub while I take the first two exams to become an actuary. However, since I’ve been subbing it’s clear that the kids in my community need help. I saw a comment posted here that mentioned parent responsibility to their children. Their kids can’t read or do math but have access to playing Fort Night and/or have cell phones. These are the same parents that are quick to jump down the school’s throat if their child get reprimanded for bad behavior. As a parent of three, it breaks my heart because I know what I do at home cultivates an environment of love and learning. It’s something that all kids should have.
I’ve had students in middle school that don’t know how to sign their names, tell time, or how to write a date using numbers (2/22/24), “where does the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this first two come from?” I’m astounded at times. I tutor at K-5 in low income schools through a non-profit, and kids are writing complete sentences, with punctuation. Their spelling is a bit iffy, but that’s normal at that age. The high schoolers I know are high achieving, and high stress. I worry for them about depression and burnout, not illiteracy. is this specific to certain states where theres less funding or this is a overall for the whole country? what do you think? Where is this happening? Up here in Illinois, we’ve got Common Core, so any lack of knowledge can usually be traced back to either a systemic error (should be in Common Core but isn’t) or an individual error (should have learned X in Yth grade) That said I have no idea how The Youths are managing right now. It’s impossible to tell someone doesn’t know jack shit just by talking to them casually I teach 4th grade and my kids cannot write sentences with capital letters or punctuation. They need reminders EVERY TIME. I’ve been teaching types of angles for 2 weeks. We’ve sang songs complete with arm movements to match each type and they still call an acute angle right. They retain NOTHING!! This is the hardest year of my 19 Year career. I’ve never seen such gaps in elementary. Not a teacher, but a parent. The gap between the gifted and the general public is the parents taking it into their own hands.
I’ve been tutoring my stepdaughter for years and seen her grades skyrocket since but damn the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this school boards are failing kids by not teaching them how to decode words and it makes me sick. How are you ever supposed to move on to reading comprehension and making the switch from learning to read to reading to learn if you fail to learn to read?? SD was straight up crying the other day when I was helping her prepare for her oral presentation because I told her she had a great first draft… like if you were already perfect at it you wouldn’t be in school? That’s the whole point is you’re supposed to get better at these skills; but they don’t fail kids anymore and it’s a mess. The truth is that the vast majority of humans are sadly pretty unintelligent on average. Half of it is that education systems need massive overhauls and the other half is that genetically they can’t mentally get to the level the minority of us do. Definitely not something to look down upon people for but it’s definitely a bit frustrating feeling like so much could be accomplished if more people had higher brain capacity. I feel like a lot of new parents don’t take time to learn things to their kids. And a lot of the ones how do use apps instead of spending time with them. Some don’t even like school or trachersband teach that mindset to their kids. Some just straight up don’t educate their kids whatsoever…
In French, we have an expression… It’s “enfants rois”, which would translate to “kid kings”. It’s kids who is never disciplined in any way and can’t follow simple demands from anyone because of it. It was already a trend 10 years back. Now, it’s even worst. I teach HS Geometry and I can somehow get my kids to learn Trigonometry but then have to turn around and teach them how rounding works and what the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this decimal places are. High school junior coming in here to wonder if it has anything to do with class sizes. I’m at a small charter right now, but went to public schools until high school. My school isn’t a ‘gifted’ school or anything. It has people from very diverse backgrounds, ranging from children of professors at our local university to recent immigrants. It also seems to have a very high percentage of IEP or 504 students. I take many “advanced” courses and whatnot, but even in my generals, I haven’t noticed the problems being observed by teachers elsewhere. To get to my point, most of the students who have been here since elementary or middle school, including those with accommodations, seem to have pretty up to standard skills, even according to my mom, who teaches there. We also have very small class sizes, so it’s fairly easy for us to get help when we need it. Does anyone think this could be contributing, or is it something else? Just really curious after reading this thread.
Social media shows you almost universally the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this extremes. Each of us generally has a limited perspective, but atleast to me it’s nowhere near as bad as described above “Insights into attention and memory difficulties in post-COVID syndrome using standardized neuropsychological tests and experimental cognitive tasks” What’s scarier is when we become old these are the generations who will be our DOCTORS. Something is wrong, I feel like it’s got to be a mix of technology, the tablet use especially when they’re so young, and nutrition + the environment around us being toxic. I heard they can’t even do a study on how micro plastics are effecting us because they literally cannot find a group who aren’t exposed to the plastics. I’m a substitute teacher, but this school year I had a classroom for the first three months. I was teaching seniors, and some of the things they didn’t know was just terrifying.
Time zones, they had no idea that New York city was in a different time zone, and I was actually asked by several students, “What is a time zone?” Place values. They had no clue at all when I would give them a number like 1,393,000 and as them what was the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this place value of the 9 digit. Rounding, I actually had to stop and completely teach the concept from the bottom up before we could even think about starting to round. Circling their answers, some of their writing process is…. unique to say the least, so I told them to circle their answers so I could grade faster. None of them could do this simple task for me. I’m seriously considering leaving the country, because in about 10 years these kids will be running the show, and I don’t think I want to watch what happens then. Mind you their threatening his job cause they didn’t like how he talked to the kids COMPLETELY ignoring their in middle school, about to be high-school, and don’t know formulas, how to problem solve, or even basic shapes My question is how did things get so bad so quickly? I graduated high school in 2013 and I feel like the people I went to school with could read and do basic math. What changed in 11 years? The USA needs to start holding kids back, but instead they are implementing “no less than 50%” rules to make sure everybody passes.
I often see American teachers complaining about things that I don’t even experience, and English is usually the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this 3-4th language of the students I deal with. (I teach at a Public, international school in Europe). On the gap between the “gifted” and the “general” population…I substituted in an 8th grade algebra class and for two weeks, 10 consecutive school days basically went over again and again the problem 3x + 9 = 21. On the last day, the day of the quiz I did a review. They acted as if it was the first time they had ever seen a math problem like that. Also, they had already done two weeks learning that type of problem before I came in. I started to notice as I go school to school the same problem exists: there are a few really good students. The rest attend class but just plain don’t even attempt anything, but act as if they are somehow entitled to the grades and the respect of someone with a doctorate. Those same children don’t even speak English correctly. For example asking questions like “I can go bathroom?” By the way, that’s not a question from an English Learner. The EL students actually have an excuse.
What’s sad is that the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this way this is all happening the school system, we are basically raising a second class citizenry that won’t be able to ever achieve any higher education goals or even probably graduate high school (or at least they shouldn’t graduate though they will be passed on) and they will be the servants of the 5% of kids who actually took the time to do the worksheet they had five problems on it that they had an hour to complete. But no, TikTok was more important. Can’t you just keep failing kids until the kids drop out and only the good ones rise up? Smaller class sizes sound great. They also don’t know what room number their classes are. They just know how to get there. Some don’t even know their teacher’s name. I’m a first year teacher and was worried I was behind because I had to stop and explain very basic concepts each lesson that were absolutely necessary for geometry. I’ve had to go through negatives at least 3 times with sophomores and juniors because they were getting lost on how far -3 was from 2. Basic things like what squares are and stuff that our curriculum has marked off as “2 years below grade level” remediation is often like teaching a foreign language to them. After talking to all the other teachers in my department, most of whom taught me when I was young, it wasn’t just me. Most of us are just barely halfway through what our pacing guide says we should be with state tests in only a couple months because these kids are truly, catastrophically behind. Every meeting we bring it up that they are behind and we need to start some kind of comprehensive remediation program to at least give them a chance, some of us even volunteered, and were told that [Insert program that we use] has remediation so we should be implementing that. The obvious issue is that we would have to add an extra day at least to each lesson to do so, and that’s IF they actually did it and tried to actually learn from it, and that’s IF the program didn’t consider “two years below grade level” to be stuff these kids have NEVER SEEN BEFORE.
And I’m not that much older than they are, I grew up with the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this same technology they did. I was on Tiktok and playing lots of video games too. Literally ALL the same stuff. Yet for some reason they have this thing where they do not learn from mistakes at all. I point out their mistake, correct it on the in-class examples. They make the same mistake on their in-class solo or group work, I correct it and explain to the class. Homework? Same thing. It goes so far that right before the quizzes I ask if there’s any questions and sometimes it is the exact same issue from the same people. So it isn’t JUST that they are ridiculously behind, its that for some reason they want to stay that way. This is surprising to me. I’m impressed with the education my kids are getting, but maybe that is because we have the luxury of picking where we live based on the GreatSchools.org rating.
Are any of you, with such negative views, at a school that has a great schools rating of 9 or 10? Meaning, does it appear that you’re at a good school but the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this reality is different? Reading this I fear the number of uneducated people who will be voting in disproportionately represented states. It’s already bad enough with the boomer vote. Are parents not being involved at all in teaching their kids things outside of school? I don’t understand it. Hearing my kids recite knowledge to me gives me a great sense of pride. Knowing they are learning and retaining information makes me feel like I am doing something right as a parent. My 5 year old starting kindergarten this fall knows his shapes. Hell, he knew his shapes at 3. He can add/subtract two digit numbers already too.
Yep middle school teacher here. It’s rough. That being said, the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this 6th graders that came in this year have been a big improvement compared to the last 2 years. Still a bit behind, but have rebounded a bit. Solve one-step variable equations. For example, if I tell them “2x = 8. Solve for x,” they can’t solve it. They would subtract by 2 on both sides instead of dividing by 2. My 4 year old can solve that… I really wouldn’t even believe stuff like that if I hadn’t seen it written here only God knows how many times. It just seems impossible unless you locked a kid in a cage and didn’t ever talk to him, but I suppose that is what “give them a smart phone at 4” parenting basically is. It’s been a decade since I was last in grade school, but I came from a financially underserved community. There was a large and clear difference between kids taking Pre-AP/AP courses and folks taking regular courses. I had always assumed it had to do with resources students had available to them and their own personal family situations. Back then I always chalked it up to other students not being ambitious or drive to be in a better situation. Now I wonder if the public school system is failing across the board.
The upside though is less worry about the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this next generation of kids trying to take jobs away from people my age if they can’t do basic shit. So why don’t the majority of teachers be honest with the parents, they are not all hostile. Tell them they are wayyyy behind and need extensive remediation or help. I guess it would help if people stopped buying their 3yo a phone so they can let the internet teach them a crow is a tiger and a square is a platypus EDIT: Though this seems to be a major problem in the US, here in belgium the kids have gotten a lot more uhm.. not caught up to their age like the title says as well, but our students luckily still win by a mile. But I doubt it will improve from here on out.
I’m kinda confused. I’ve seen a lot of posts in the Brewers Queen Classy Sassy And A Bit Smart Assy logo shirt Also,I will get this past couple years sharing this sentiment, but even with everything I don’t see how this problem could have started in the past couple years since you’re talking about high schoolers who are having troubles with stuff they would have been taught in like second grade. Did we just have a bunch of kids go through years of schooling without anyone noticing they couldn’t do basic multiplication? Or did they somehow manage to forget all this basic foundational knowledge because of a year of online school? Like it’s either because of online school or it’s something else and neither of those make sense to me. If it’s something else then surely we’d have been hearing about this years ago. And if it’s because of online school that simply does not explain how someone in highschool could have gaps they should have learned 7 years ago.
