In reality the Boomer is too rad shirt and by the same token and slowest people should be zoning exclusively. If you don’t like it, get faster. Every shitty stocker that stocks 1 pallet per shift can zone instead, and let the good workers keep working. Because that cost money. Do you want your job to be replaced with robots? Moral will improve or the beatings will continue. We have a zoning team for the GM side but they get pulled to OPD and to run freight so guess what doesn’t get done What I want to know is why at the deli we sell a small which is 8 ounces for .97 and a larger 16 ounces for 3.98. I just buy two smalls now Soo technically every shift is supposed to zone most stores just put it on ON so that the store can be nice and pretty first thing in the morning Because they don’t like people standing around so if there’s nothing to do at the moment in your department then they expect you to be zoning You would need a whole lot more than just 5 people to zone and maintain a whole store. I work in apparel and there are many days that even with 5 people in that one department zoning non-stop, it just isn’t going to happen. That’s what they had me doing when I started here 2 years ago. We were hired for regular positions but they had us doing zoning and the top stock for the first 3 or 4 months before they would “move us to our hired positions”. They never did. I switched positions on my own lol.

But I was basically a zoning associate for 4 months on swing shift. And it literally did not matter at all by midnight. When I worked at Walmart 2013-2015. We used to have a person for the Boomer is too rad shirt and by the same token and store called a Z and I think they check on zoning. Because our Z used to have me zone in electronics where I worked. I think only specific departments should have designated zoners. Like toys and sporting goods (To many damn coolers) Everything else one should be able to zone in time. At our store at 2pm most of the employees aside from cap2 and service people go zone a couple aisles of the store and we do it till 3 and my stores zone looks pretty good Idk if this is unique to Canadian walmarts but customer experience salesfloor associates exclusively zone and do returns, and has been the case in our store for years. But even then, theyre getting rid of our team and the CAP teams in favour of area oriented departments such as GM, consumables and grocery. back when i worked at walmart, the store was a total disaster. i was always pulled from what i was doing to zone. everyone said how fast and good i was at doing it. i also really enjoyed it. i even asked one of the managers if i could come in and just zone everyday and be backup on busy days. nope, they didn’t want anything to do with that idea. haha Depends on the store, size, volume and competency of your teams and non-negotiable expectations whether store gets zoned. When I was in a poorly run supercenter, everything sucked and the store was never zoned, they couldn’t even finish consumable freight ever. Always several pallets turned over to first shift. Now I’m in a neighborhood market store and each shift goes above and beyond, always zoned, top stock and vizpick happening all three shifts and all depts bins are purged on the daily. Point being, not every store has an issue getting zoned, so a dedicated team to do so would be band-aiding other issues needing to be addressed. The truth is that techincally there is a zoning team. It is supposed to be all of second shift on the Salesfloor and stocking team 2. Nobody’s store is currently operating this way though due to how far under overnights is in terms of hours. 1st shift is supposed to have enough hours to swarm any freight leftover by overnights and still own detail work but this is also not working in these stores. So a lot of the time 2nd shift is still working freight or picks so that overnights doesn’t leave a store that is absolutely destroyed for first shift. IMO if the process was followed, it could work but only if every single person in the store is on the correct program and using all of their staff appropriately. Edit: also all shifts on the Salesfloor are supposed to own the zone in their areas; which means everyone should be zoning no matter what they’re doing. Price changes? Zone the section. Pinpoint? Zone the section. Deep out scans? Zone the section. If we did this yes things would get done slower in the short term but the box would be zoned all the time
