Right. When I read about requests like this I wonder what the Best i’m Not A Complete Idiot, Obviously Some Parts Are Missing T-Shirt Besides,I will do this liability issues are, whether the volunteers will be covered if they’re injured, what kind of training they get, whether they are screened for their ability to interact with people and calm down angry drunks. Especially as crowd control/security. Good security workers ensure the situations that could go wrong do not, and if they do escalate they know how to handle them. Volunteers though? No training, no support, no skills. Many things will go wrong and the volunteers will be blamed, not the poor decision makers in “leadership” i’ve volunteered at music festivals many times, but you get vip tix and camping for free as compensation, you only work a shift or two over the weekend, not a bad gig at all My wife works for a well known national nonprofit. She volunteered me for a 15 hour day with her busiest event.

That’s the Best i’m Not A Complete Idiot, Obviously Some Parts Are Missing T-Shirt Besides,I will do this only time I’m ever doing volunteer work. I do so much volunteer work in my early 20’s, and was taken advantage of by so many people willing to exploit my volunteering/free labor. I just, fuck that. I mean, it depends on the kind of crowd they will host. But yeah, doing security should not be “volunteer” work when you are sticking you neck out for the safety of others. What a crock of shit. I would report the music festival. They’re probably claiming they have security for their festivals and then pulling this. Their patrons aren’t safe and they’re probably pocketing the security funds themselves. If you haven’t seen the Woodstock 99 documentary, they do something similar using a volunteer security force and it’s just about what you’d expect would happen.
