Why not learn a martial art for when you aren’t able to run away? Makes no sense to disregard it completely and it doesn’t hurt to have a plan B. The gym he mentioned (KO Bancroft Road) is legit the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this owner and coach has trained near 40 world champions in boxing and muay thai he also has some other classes going on like BJJ. They have women’s classes on different days from mens classes so if that makes you feel more protected then you can do grappling BJJ and Judo and Wrestling and some MMA there. They at Legion Grappling are very kind and good people. And they appreciate that women’s classes should be separate from mens. Literally any real martial artist will tell you to avoid conflict at all costs IF POSSIBLE. Doesn’t mean knowing how to actually fight doesn’t work, that’s just demonstrably untrue. A month of self defense classes is not going to do anything and it’s probably a grift. Picking up something like Muay Thai and sticking with it will gives you a set of skills that might prove useful in a desperate situation (and it also involves a lot of running). Contrary to what you seem to think, training actually made me less inclined to fight random people as I know how it feels to be punched in the face. Just buy a small can of deep heat. Works like pepper spray. Wouldn’t bother with the combat training unless you are training seriously against grown men.
Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt: Embrace Your Uniqueness
Because to be really effective at fighting takes lots of time and lots of practice, something like boxing and Judo covers everything a person needs, but to be proficient in both of those takes time and practice, at least two classes of each per a week. And a woman would need to be really good at combat sports because she is at a massive weight and strength disadvantage. And all the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this combat sports in the world don’t mean much against someone with a sharp knife who knows how to use it But anyway, combat sports are worth doing for fitness and confidence but I would say practice sprinting and running would be just as useful for a woman, if not more useful Also it’s a sad situation when women feel so intimidated going about their daily lives really, society should not be like that 🙁 In my experience, BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) is the best martial art for self-defence. Especially as a woman, as it teaches you how to defend yourself while on your back. There’s a lot of BJJ gyms around I believe. So I suppose it all depends on where you live. Try to look for a gym with “Gracie” in their name. Most gyms will give you a trial class to see if you enjoy it. And then the topic of prices will come up. Ah thanks!! Have been recommended BJJ by a couple mates too – looks awesome! I think that might be the front runner 🙂
If BJJ is too expensive then Judo is the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this same techniques with a different ruleset for 1/3 of the price and a national governing body allowing better quality control. It’s the basis of BJJ, Sambo, Kudo, Hapkido and most police forces and military training for the last 100 years and has development events for adult beginners which are great to build your confidence. The Budokwai, Chelsea (first dojo in Europe), Tokai Judo club, London Bridge (even have classes during the day), Redbridge Judo club, Ealing Judo club, Moberley Judo club, Kilburn, Hillingdon Judo club, Dartford Judo club, High Wycombe Judo centre. BJJ is great when you’re on the floor, but you really don’t ever want to be on your back in any self defence situation. I understand I’m probably going to get downvoted for this but 9 times out of 10 the average man is going to outpower the average woman in an altercation regardless of self defence capabilities.

How I can buy this Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt
You should definitely look into self defence as I imagine it would give you more peace of mind, and provide you with better knowledge of how to protect yourself, but in my opinion, strength will play a deciding factor in a situation like that. It dosent help that UK self defence laws are an absolute joke, Items like everyday carry knives are legal to possess, but if used against someone (even in situations where you are not the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this instigator of an attack) you’ll be in the wrong legally and you’ll be facing some serious trouble. It would be helpful to carry items such as an umbrella, as it can be used to fight back against someone, and it wouldn’t be assumed that you’d be carrying it for that purpose. That being said, if you find yourself in a hostile situation, you kick that man as hard as you can in the balls and run.
A well trained full contact martial artist would be able to hurt a man of any size. That takes years of dedication and it’s why “women only, good vibes” self defence courses are useless. You could be a third Dan black belt in bjj but a fat 300lb motherfucker charging you and slamming you into a wall ain’t a negotiable sparring session – you’re at their mercy if you’re a normal sized like 150lb woman Especially when most martial arts places are Mcdojos emphasising tournament sparring and not a progression towards mma or anything like that, especially if it’s classes aimed at women not even mentioning you’re far less likely to walk into a Balkan/ soviet boxing gym and stick around Exactly, also very concerning the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this amount of people recommending BJJ. It’s arguably the absolute worst martial art for use in a street fight kind of situation unless your attacker decided to approach you scooting on his arse like a dog with worms
Given your extreme scenario I agree and it’s regardless of gender, but if you can avoid getting grabbed in the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this first place then fat or not shit hurts. I’ve never been to a mcdojo myself but i’d think it’s the majority of them, especially multi discipline chains. Hell even if you are trained then you should do enough cardio do be able to sprint 500m away and only then consider fighting Moved from the US, and I was honestly shocked that pepper spray is illegal here, it’s an extremely good self defense tool. That said, violence in the UK and the US is difficult to compare considering the vast differences in law. But I will say that it brings a lot of peace of mind to have a small canister that can stun an attacker It’s also a good attacking tool, and if it were legal to carry, it would be used vastly more for this purpose than for defence, as is the case in USA. This is why the rational conclusion is to ensure it is only available for use by police or armed forces, not by the general public. There’s no point, unless you are doing it for fun and physical exercise. I’ve done these classes, and I have even reached black belt after training for over 10 years, and there is nothing I can do if someone pulls a knife on me. I am a man by the way. Your only option is to run or comply. We did drills to protect our selves from a knife attack, if i used these drills in the real world I would be slashed and lucky to end up in hospital, however you will most likely will be buried in the ground. Fightzone in Hackney is highly regarded and has a number of female-only classes. The general classes tend to have decent female turnout, I’d say anything from 10% to 25% of most classes are women, depending on the sport. Lots of female instructors too who are decent and we even have a couple of female european and world champions train here.
Honesty, whatever self defense class you choose, take up running too. A man will overpower you every single time and some even take pleasure when a woman fights back. As a woman myself, it sucks to not feel safe when walking on the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this street but this is the reality. I try not to walk the street when it gets dark. I either drive or get an Uber. Plenty of good comments here. Other than that, from basic self defence classes I’ve been to….make sure you can run, and keep yourself strong. If you take any classes, they should be all about “street smarts” and not fighting, i.e. situational awareness, don’t walk with headphones on, yell fire if attacked, take taxis if alone at night, avoid dark alleys etc.
Martial arts classes for women can do much more harm than good if you get delusional and think you can fight men off. I disagree, most people don’t even know how to throw a punch. Someone trained in proper martial arts is used to fight other skilled individuals of any size or gender. “Self-defence” and traditional martial arts don’t work, imo. A couple of thoughts after having done a bit of everything for a decade or so: Pick something where the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this core concepts have been proven to work in fights: so BJJ, boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, MMA and so on. There’s a reason you don’t see UFC fighters with an akido background. “Go live” regularly. This means sparring / rolling as much as you possibly can. You can’t learn to fight without fighting. Compete. Nothing incentivises you to learn how to fight like knowing you’ve got a fight / competition in 8 weeks. If you’re most interested in self-defence I’d recommend MMA. Simply knowing how to get up off the floor (with someone trying to keep you on the floor!) is a core concept in MMA that you won’t get striking. But knowing how to clatter someone before they’ve got you on the floor is a core concept you won’t get in BJJ / wrestling. In terms of where to go; gyms will generally offer trial classes – why don’t you try a bunch? I’d highly recommend you go to somewhere big. The bigger the gym, the more women will go (important to keep you coming back and give you lots of sparring partners).
There are plenty of women training here, very welcoming and pleasant training environment. Coaches are amazing, great facilities, timetable from 7am to 9pm + they offer women only classes. Any martial art needs to be practiced a ton to be effective and unless it includes plenty of sparring it would be useless in a stressful situation. If you’re interested in martial arts pick something like Brasilian Ju-jitsu, Kyokushin Karate or Muai Thai and keep at it but don’t fall for self defence courses. Edit: Also to keep in mind: Martial arts give you confidence, it doesn’t mean fighting in the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this first place is a good idea, people start fights when they are scared or have something to prove and those people could carry weapons.
Horrid that happened to you. What has become of this City. Can highly recommend Krav Maga to you! Mostly as it’s centred around quite practical ways to defend oneself and escape danger. Which isn’t to knock other art forms. I’m sure there’s plenty you’d enjoy. I think I just liked that KM really was just a lot of preparing your muscle memory to kick in when things kick off. London Krav Maga have a school near Tottenham Court Road. I used to go to their NW1 branch a few years back and loved it. Should also mention they do both mixed classes and female only / female led options as well. I did mixed and the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this class was roughly 50/50 Krav Maga classes are what you want. Other martial arts are great ‘skills’ but KM is all about inflicting as much pain and aggression as quickly as possibly. I used to go to KB Fitness in North London and loved it! It’s women led and you get free self defense classes with a kickboxing membership I’d recommend looking into Krav Maga – I did it for a few years, there are plenty of different groups offering it and it is focused on practical self defence. I train at JTT Muay Thai in Brixton. Has a really strong crowd of women, and the coaches wife is one of the best fighters in England ATM. They also do women only sessions. Priced reasonably well also.
Thing with martial arts is that you need to stick with it, but will end up giving you loads of confidence in yourself, as well as fitness to boot. 9 times out of 10 the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this best solution is to run away, but for those odd chances, knowing how to break someone’s knee can be handy I would also recommend buying a rape alarm and self defence legal spray from Amazon – it shoots out a red dye onto the attackers face. Can just put both of these things onto your key ring. London can be a scary city especially for us women, the people here saying to not bother because you won’t be able to fight against a man don’t understand that it’s also about mindset and knowing that if it came to it hopefully you will be able to defend yourself not remaining in the mindset that you’re too weak and an easy target forever. The Jiu Jitsu Foundation have clubs all around London. They are Japanese based Jiu Jitsu and incorporate a good mix of self defence alongside the more fun side of Martial Arts.
Just want to say, lone female being followed through the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this streets is a worthy 999 call and the Met would send a car out if you were inclined to call them. Jujitsu is designed to allow a trained smaller practitioner to defeat a larger untrained opponent. If you’re a weak (your words) woman, boxing isn’t going to help you. Jujitsu will. I would be amiss if I didn’t warn you against self defense classes. A sense of safety is really important, but a FALSE sense of safety is actively dangerous, and that’s what a lot of self defense classes actually offer Still do the class if you want but also trust your instinct to feel unsafe. Don’t take unnecessary risks and take precautions. In the meantime, try calling someone while you are walking. It’s a huge deterrent to any attackers and it will take your mind off the stress. It would be cheaper and easier to order an Uber every time than walk and get good enough at a martial art to effectively use it false bravado from being able to roll with a trainer who is nice and doesn’t just pick you up and slam you in bjj or whatever is more likely to fuck up your instincts and get you in knife/ grab range of a dude twice your weight and size Find the nearest MMA gym and learn a variety of things. I think the best philosophy in your situation would be how to create space in a bad situation so you can run away. If a guy has grabbed you, on top of you, behind you, standing in front blocking your path. Something like bjj will teach you how to escape when someone is on top of you trying to hold you down. Kickboxing or muay thai can teach you how to put enough sting in a strike to make the guy pause so you can run away.
Don’t listen to people who say you can’t. You absolutely can. I’ve been training for almost 30 years and I’ve met plenty of women smaller than me who were absolute savages. One woman kicked so hard I could feel her shin bone through her shin guard. She wasn’t a pro fighter. She was a journalist.
About a month ago, I was in bed, scrolling through TikTok as always. I live alone, so it wasn’t unusual to have random thoughts when I’m by myself. But that night was different. Out of nowhere, I had this thought telling me, “this is my last night, I should write a goodbye letter before I die.” I wasn’t stressed or sad; the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this thought just popped up. It stuck around for about 10 minutes until I started to question myself, “what am I thinking? Am I crazy? This isn’t my thought.” And I got scared because I don’t want to die. I told my best friend about it the next day, and she told me something that shocked me. She said she had a weird feeling that someone might die that night too. She was worried about her ex, so she messaged him, but nothing happened. It’s been on my mind ever since. Was I picking up on someone else’s thoughts, or was it a warning of something bad to come?
What do you think? Ever had a strange experience like this?I used to work in a nightclub with my best friend, Anjeli. One night I was off and she was working. We usually got off around 2am. The club was in a bad area of town and had a pretty rough crowd. I woke up around 2am, hyperventilating, almost having a panic attack. I just felt like something was wrong. Thought I might be going crazy. My friend randomly crossed my mind and I said a quick prayer for her that she was safe (I used to be a Christian so I used to pray). Then I went back to sleep. The next day she told me she was leaving the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this club around 2am. When she got to her car, there were two men inside. She didn’t see them until she opened the door. They grabbed her arm and tried to force her into the car, telling her to drive. She said she remembered something I’d once told her. I’d seen on Oprah that if someone tries to kidnap you in a parking lot, fight to the death, because if they manage to take you a way you’re statistically most likely dead. She fought back and started pulling away, trying to stall, offering money. (She had bruises all over her arm.) Suddenly she heard police sirens. There was a pretty strong police presence in the area, so there must have been a call nearby. The guys got scared when they heard the sirens and ran off into the woods behind the club, so my friend was able to jump in her car and get away from there.
She later found out that, at the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this exact same time, her mom had a nightmare. In the nightmare it was pitch black, but she heard voices talking, saying, “Yeah, we’re going to rob her and rape her and kill her.” She woke up and immediately started praying. I’m no longer a Christian, I’m an agnostic now, so I don’t know what to think of what happened. Can’t be a coincidence that her mom and I had the same experience at the same time this was happening to my friend. I guess there are forces at play I will never know about. That’s absolutely chilling but also incredibly intriguing. Trusting your gut can sometimes be a lifesaver. I’m really relieved your friends are okay. Thanks for sharing My two friends had the same dream. They were talking about it one time. I’ve always wanted to have the same dream as someone ever since.
You sensing that something bad was happening to someone close to you is surprisingly more common then you think. It happens with family members twins close friends etc. I only recently started experiencing sleep paralysis and it’s genuinely horrifying and I’d always thought the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this sleep paralysis demon jokes were just jokes. They aren’t. The first time I experienced it I was stuck for what felt like an hour and could only move my eyes. I looked at my bedroom door, which was mostly open and there was this thing there staring at me that could only be described as a demon. It would laugh every now and then and say “I’m going to make my knife your friend”. I didn’t realize what was happening at the time but if I didn’t know sleep paralysis was a thing I think that would have driven me insane. My door stays closed now though
I usually force myself to hyperventilate so I can exit sleep paralysis. It is true you seem to be able to control your eyes only, but you can slowly control breathing. Had it so many times, had to develop a system :p hope it helps When I was in a super abusive relationship, I’d get sleep paralysis pretty often towards the Auburn Tigers graduation aubie mascot shirt But I will love this end when the abuse was the worst. I’ve never experienced it outside of that situation, but when I’d get it I was able to eventually remember to try and wiggle a finger or toe. At first it was like I was still dreaming but my dream was happening in my bedroom and I’d realize I was awake and couldn’t move. I’d see spiders or mice crawling everywhere sometimes. It was terrifying because my son would be asleep in his room, and my immediate thought every time was “I cannot get up to grab him if he starts crying” even though I knew it only lasted a minute or two. I wouldn’t wish sleep paralysis on anybody, I was already sleep deprived from the abusive setting but at that point I was scared to try and fall asleep because I knew the sleep paralysis would hit me! Thankfully it has never happened again since the last night my son and I stayed in that house.
