So I can’t imagine, a Dr. will perform this kind of operation on a child. No atleast in my country the first part of gender correction takes 3-4 years before you can have anny surgery if you are 14-16 when you start well In my very progressive country sex changes are rare but when they are performed, its always on adults and never on children. This is exactly what no stupid questions is for. Thank you for sharing the question and I hope you have gotten some firm understanding from the answers others have provided. I know I learned a lot. A trans teen may obtain Top Surgery in some states, with parental consent and approval from mental healthcare providers. If you’re really interested in this topic (I think many of us are), there’s a very well-made episode of Frontline about it. This is around 1.5 hrs long, because they go into great detail among numerous children and their families. Some of it may seem shocking, some of it heartbreaking, and some of it infuriating. But it really sheds a lot of light on this topic and I highly suggest viewing it in it’s entirety as a serious and comprehensive work of journalism on the matter. It’s from 2015, so some of the kids portrayed are adults now. One thing it certainly evokes is empathy for those who are trans, and their families. It was quite an eye-opener for me. I highly recommend watching it, perhaps with a friend one may discuss it with. Its very thoughtfully made, and it doesn’t pull punches or take political stances.

Where I live you are allowed on hormone blockers during puberty. But nothing other than that. And only after going through some sort of therapy at a gender clinic so they make sure it’s something serious and not just a whim or phase. Then at 18 you can qualify for surgeries but mostly they let you live life for a year in ‘real life’ phase to make sure you really want to live as that gender. And only at 18+ can you start hormone replacement therapy. So no. Kids don’t get sexchanges. There’s a lot of propaganda going around right now about “child genital mutilation” which, of course sounds bad phrased that way, but it isnt. It’s a necessary medical decision made between the child and doctor due to dysphoria. Detransitions are very rare, and most of them are due to social unacceptance; many who detransition will later complete the transition process. This is just my personal opinion, but if anything is child mutilation, it’s things like circumcision (which I think is unnecessary) and performing surgeries on very young children who are intersex (doctors will, without the child’s understanding, perform surgery to make them fit into a binary of male or female).
