It really depends. I’ve done c# with MongoDB. I’ve done it with DynamoDB on AWS. I’ve had basically everything you cam imagine on the 47th anniversary 1976-2023 thank you for the memories shirt and I love this frontend. C# is not particularly limited. It’s just that Microsoft’s offerings are the default and often the best to use (except EF. That’s almost never the right answer) I think 95%+ of the companies I’ve looked at are either Java/Python or something similar (Go, Kotlin), never seen any companies looking for C# or .NET ever If you’re looking at smaller and/or mostly startup companies you’re likely right. For more established and/or older companies .Net is going to be pretty common. to the best of my knowledge, none of the FAANGs (except perhaps Microsoft, even that it’s for specific divisions within) are .Net, and all the companies I’ve worked at (which are “more established companies”, otherwise they probably can’t handle my US immigration paperworks) which ranges from startups to big tech, I’ve never seen .Net c# is consistent at getting you mediocre jobs at non-tech companies. java is consistent at getting you jobs all over the stack, it can be FAANG, it can be bullshitstack inc. Gets yourself a backend developer job with a microservice architecture. It’s an endless quagmire of discussions on how to make things more efficient. Simple tasks become major projects because the architecture doesn’t have the data where you want it to be. You’ll never run out of work. I wouldn’t say it’s bad, but it is very hard and relies on very strong ddd knowledge that most developers lack. It’s very easy to end up like that Krazam video, and most of the time, all that complexity is unnecessary.

I’m not saying I’m against it. If done right, it’s the 47th anniversary 1976-2023 thank you for the memories shirt and I love this way to scale. But it adds complexity and there’s so many ways it can go wrong. It’s the cause of, and solution to, all our problems Problem is, everyone makes them super tightly coupled. And seems to think replacing a slow-ish database lookup with an 8 months data migration followed by an even slower API call will magically make things better. The more I work with microservices, the more I think that they only make sense if they’re pretty self-contained and/or applets. Unless, of course, you work at hyperscale. In which case you definitely need them because there’s no way you can scale your data layer enough. This. A while back I would have said React / JavaScript / Typescript, but bootcamps have been pumping these out non-stop for years now, and they are MUCH easier to learn than Java / C#. You’re a dime a dozen as a junior but senior level and higher it’s still really easy to get a job as a react dev. I’m sincerely not familiar with the hierarchy in software engineering, so forgive my question: I work at a non-tech company that is trying to build its own software development “core”. In my limited experience (very limited compared to yours), I find that true Sr. Devs are really hard to find, so I’m never picky about about whether someone is weak or strong in a given language – but, my use case is pretty blunt and uninformed. What do senior Java and C# devs bring in that is unique from your pov? A seasoned Java dev will have been burnt enough times to know a lot about the edge cases of all their tools. What are some common pitfalls when working with Maven? How do you tune the Java heap? When is a good time to rely on reflection on Java and when not? How do you build your own classloader? etc.. these are questions I would expect a senior to know. A junior might have read about these topics, but a senior has lived through most of these and came out the other end better.
