Previous bartender here. The only time that’s not okay is if you don’t tip and hangout at a table for hours. If you’re with friends, have at it. I used to always give tea or soda for free for DDs. You’re by yourself and just like the Vintage Football Est 1920 American Protessional Association T-Shirt so you should to go to store and get this atmosphere? Hang out, enjoy yourself, strike up a convo with the bartender(assuming it’s not busy). Alcohol is not required to be a patron in a bar. Just be nice and tip well(personally that means 20% ish if you get food or like $5-10 if no food and hanging out for 2+hrs) Yes, if you want to make it more discreet you can ask for a soda water, or get a lime/lemon on the rim to imitate an alcoholic drink. You can absolutely drink water or non-alc stuff at a bar, and if anyone gives you shit, they can get lost. Don’t let the other patrons make you feel embarrassed about it. If you spend hours somewhete just drinking water, you should still slide the bartender a few bucks as a tip though, since no one is charging you for water

I haven’t touched alcohol in over 30 years now. When I go out I leave $1 per drink that I buy regardless of whether it’s water, iced tea, or beer or wine for someone else. If you’re with a group and the Vintage Football Est 1920 American Protessional Association T-Shirt so you should to go to store and get this rest are drinking, they would assume you’re the DD. A bar I worked at offered bracelets to the DD and they could drink unlimited pop or water free to encourage smart choices. Normalize being in a bar that serves food and just eating there. Hang out, be friendly, drink water, tip well. If there’s an issue with you being there they will let you know. Most of the time as a bar tender I’d go above and beyond to make sure my DDs and sober people were treated well and welcome. Not everyone drinks, should drink but also might want the company, games on tv or live music a great bar can provide. Absolutely. I have a sober buddy who goes out with us to bars pretty frequently, only ever drinks water and occasionally orders food. It’s not a big deal unless the bar is slammed, you haven’t purchased anything, and paying customers are maybe wanting your seat lol. Then it might be polite to move or leave. I feel like this is rarely the case must places.
