How far out are you scheduling them? They’re in their late teens and early twenties dealing with osteoporosis, malnutrition, and broken backs and as soon as they can’t hit those turns anymore they’re discarded. A lot of former Olympians describe this level of sport as having very high highs, and very low lows. A lot of athletes struggle significantly with depression.
