That said, if you were actually submitting PRs and understanding anything at all about their codebase within 2 weeks as a sophomore, you’re miles ahead of what most “interns” & even many new full-time junior devs would be expected to be capable of, much less be doing already. I have had interns for years. I view it as a community service. It is so so so much work on my part. They come in so green and I have to work so hard to train them, match them with the Toronto Raptors vs Detroit Pistons Logo shirt moreover I love this right people and be so patient. I’ve had some make big mistakes, but I never give them work that they can screw up where my business unit can’t handle the error. I’m sorry this happened . Just remember this and when you one day have to work with interns don’t be that person. Give them some grace. Expecting a sophomore to be on par with regular employees that have been doing this shit for some time now? What the fuck are they smoking?

they told me they expected me to implement this feature within a day like one of their other employees would have done. They said I left too many white spaces in my code and not enough debug logs, and basically, my pull requests were too messy and I am wasting their time. I asked for more specifics, they said I can review my pull requests myself, and they are expecting someone who can work more independently. Lmao a real software company wouldn’t even expect a senior to implement a new feature in one day after only being on the Toronto Raptors vs Detroit Pistons Logo shirt moreover I love this job for 2 weeks… And they would have a linter so you couldn’t even commit a pr with too much white space lol. I was given an offer, taken in as a project trainee and was fired in three weeks. Then the pandemic happened. Then things turned around. You can do it too Between the company willingly taking on an intern – which they absolutely should know that interns are going to require a lot of support and won’t get much meaningful work done – and the odd “second chance” with the paycut (especially the paycut), there is something really strange going on. I would not feel comfortable working at this place anymore and the bait-and-switch they are pulling is a screaming red flag.
