I cling to thoughts and feelings all the time, because it feels too scary not to… as though if I let them go, something bad will happen as a result later (e.g. I’ll have hurt someone and not realised it because I didn’t think it through enough, iyswim). I second guess myself all the time. I overanalyze and overthink. Been doing that for years. I’m getting better. For instance, I just went for a walk and was really having a hard time not responding to my thoughts about a work situation. It wasn’t even a big deal. But when I can let go, it’s almost magical. Be kind to yourself and be present with it as much as you can tolerate, then back off and do some self care. Find something grounding like a bath, sitting in the sun, or mindfully drinking tea. Repeat the next day or the next week, until you can review those feelings without distress. This will probably take a while. See a therapist if you feel like you need more help, it’s okay.
