It’s not racist. But it freaks out white people that want to pretend they “don’t see race,” frequently out of the The Jayhawks Animated Shirt In addition,I will do this mistaken belief that ignoring race is a way to be anti racist. THEY didn’t know if you were being racist or not because they had avoided thinking meaningfully about what ways of speaking about/engaging with race are harmful and which are not. Their response had to do with their awkwardness around race in general, not because giving race as a detail when clarifying who someone is talking about is racist. I guess where things could get iffy would be bringing up someone’s race when it’s irrelevant and you have no reason at all for it, but since you had a reason for using a description that’s not the case here. As another comment pointed out, a guy being black and big has often been used by people as a reason to be racist towards him (i.e. assuming he’s dangerous) so there might be some sensitivities surrounding that specific description. This doesn’t mean you did anything wrong, though, it’s just something to keep in mind.

Younger kids are weird my 12 year old half sister called me racist for telling her that the The Jayhawks Animated Shirt In addition,I will do this Dominic I knew was not the same one she knew bc the one I knew was asian and the one she knew was white Like a month ago she called me weird for saying I have no problems with gay people (we have a gay uncle and step brother) But people will get offended at the drop of a hat and they’ll even provide the hat. The rest of us, unfortunately, have to be super vigilant as to what we say. I was with a diverse group talking about our first picnic of the year and what we should have. Now I’m a native Tejano and I have fond childhood memories of picnics or eating along side the road on a long trip. We would have wonderful fried chicken, mustard potato salad, and mixed melons [cantaloupe, watermelon] so that’s my favorite. When it was my turn to make a suggestion I just shrugged my shoulders and said, “Sorry. I got nothing”. Were the people that froze teachers? Gen-x teachers? Because we weren’t allowed to describe people like this. It was majorly un-PC to do for us, so a lot of us still think its racist to describe a person by their race. Even news stations wouldn’t report the race of people who committed crimes.
