Some methods narrow the The art of fighting muay thai boxing spirit fight culture T-Shirt but in fact I love this mind to a montone by focus. They say the mind is still and of course it can’t be as there is a focus. So no still mind from that approach but some people seem to like it. I don’t practice that. I prefer another approach. It involves relaxation so the mind slows down and then becomes still (Dr Ainslie Meares meditation method). When the mind is still you dimly know you remain awake. It is only afterwards you realise you are calmed and rested. The mind can become still but this is only possible via deep relaxation. Relaxation is different to focus. Relaxation involves a lessening and this makes the stilling possible. You can give it a try but you will do better with good instruction. For that I suggest one of the late Dr Meares books, some are out of print and harder to get. Easiest to get is Ainslie Meares on Meditation. Meares instructions are simple, direct and efficient and it seems to take many people are shorter time to learn than other approaches. Meares was an eminent psychiatrist and perhaps it is because he reverse engineered this approach that it works so well. I use the analogy of waves in the ocean at the beach. The surface of the ocean is constantly agitated with ebbing and flowing waves. Underneath, though, the water is calm. My thoughts are the surface, and beneath those thoughts, it’s calm. I go “underneath’ the thoughts and when I rest there, it’s quiet and still. Some mornings for a longer time, some not as long. It is a practice. The other part of this is, I am not the thoughts. I am that which is aware of the thoughts. This awareness helps me to stay “underneath.”

In 2006, I received meditation instructions (no cost), from the The art of fighting muay thai boxing spirit fight culture T-Shirt but in fact I love this Vedanta Society of Southern California. These instructions helped so much. I don’t know where you are located, but there are Vedanta Centers all over the world. There is no substitute for direct instruction. Each one of us is different and encounter different obstacles in meditating. The Swamis, Monks, and Nuns (all Hindu), can answer your questions. The questions that are unique to your own personal constellation that is your mind and body. The point is to observe your thoughts and let them go, not to have a blank mind. I highly recommend https://palousemindfulness.com It takes practice. Perceptions are surprisingly dependent on your attention. When you shift your attention off of perceptions and maintain a clear mind, you can halt the process of thinking and perceiving. When both external and internal input are shut off, there is a silence of the mind. One way to do this is to meditate while asleep. When you’re physically asleep, your mind naturally shuts off perceptions in the environment. This is when we usually engage in dreams, or we’re unconscious. If you practice awareness in sleep, you can remain conscious during the silent stages in between dreams. This is a mindstate that is completely absent of internal thought and external perception. The mind goes absolutely silent.
