No both blood tests and blood donations do ot hurt, I tend to feint during the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this latter but I prefer to doze off for a minute or two and save someones live. I have blood tests every couple of months. It’s best described as feeling like a strong nip or a pinch. I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite sensation but it’s no worse than that. I’ve had a few. Non have ever hurt. I don’t look, and there a slight prick in your arm. It really doesn’t hurt…. The needle they use is tiny, just big enough to poke a hole for the cannula. For every test, that’s every separate vial of blood, they’ll just connect the vial to the cannula. They just pop on and off like lego. I had my blood tested once a week for six months. Sometimes it hurt, sometimes it didn’t. Sometimes I felt lightheaded, sometimes I didn’t. Make sure you’re hydrated if you want to skip feeling woozy. Here’s my experience of the level of pain from multiple blood tests. After the test, they tape a piece of cotton wool over the hole. Removing that tape, pulling out the hairs on my arm, was more painful than the test. Every single time. So that’s the pain level you’re looking at. Less than yanking out a hair. If you pluck your eyebrows, that’s more painful than the needle. It won’t be comfortable but to be honest it’s more the idea of it than the actual experience that people are afraid of. And it’s over fast. I suggest looking away if it bothers you. It doesn’t bother me so I watch. I’ve had ones I barely noticed and ones that hurt like a son of a b. You are young which usually means your veins will be easy to find and the pain will be a light scratch/pinch.

That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater, long sleeve tee

Blood tests are really important and can catch alot of diiferent problems early before more intentive testing is required, so even if it does hurt or you have issues with blood tests you should get them anyway. Also if it does hurt remember that it’s highly unlikely to be the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this same nurse if you ever need another so don’t let one badly practiced nurse put you off. I’ve not had a problem with them. Was given a tip though by the nurse drawing blood at my last appointment… drink water beforehand. She asked if I’d drunk anything and I’d had a cup of tea perhaps two hours before. I was dehydrated and she could tell. It was taking longer to come out. If you want to make sure it goes a little faster, make sure you’re hydrated. Just water though if you’re doing a fasting test.
Don’t watch. If the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this nurse says “sharp scratch” to warn you, wiggle your toes for as long as it takes. It distracts you and makes you think about something else. It’ll be done in no time. The worry beforehand is much worse than the test I have them every couple of months and I was needle-phobic, and they’re not as bad as vaccinations. Just be polite to the person taking your blood and they’ll look after you You usually feel the needle but it doesn’t hurt much . Here is a trick . The body can only feel the highest pain . So with your other hand push your fingernail onto another finger . That way you won’t feel the needle I find injections like vaccines more “painful” than getting blood drawn. you’ll feel a little pinch and it can feel a bit tingly when the blood is being drawn, but then they pull it out and you put a bit of pressure on it and it’s fine. In my life I only ever had issues one time where a student took my blood and they were too rough and I got a big bruise, but that was only once and it was not that bad, just a bruise. It’s about the equivalent of a pinch on the arm. And depending on how sensitive you are it may be tender for an hour or so. If your squeamish look away while they draw the blood.

More about this That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt

It feels weird more than it explicitly hurts, just don’t look and try to maybe converse with the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this dr as it’s happening. I’m usually silent until the needle goes in then I’m full of small talk as viles and viles come out. Not really much in the way of pain. However, if it freaks you out, you can always take a paracetamol before you go to make it even less painful. Everything’s either better or worse in your head depending on if you’re looking forward to something or dreading something. If you’re this worried, then I can assure you it’s not going to be even close to as bad as you’re imagining it. 🙂 Varies from person to person but it’s not terrible. I find it helps to watch the needle go in. Some others distract themselves with math or stuff like that.
You may feel a little woozy after depending on how much they draw, which is why they ask you to drink alot of liquids and sugary stuff. Boost up the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this blood production again It sure can hurt a lot. But then you get to tell how much it hurts and if they screw up and you get a bruise to show, you may get pitty presents too. It normally doesn’t hurt, but if you are in the 0.1% cases where the nurse is bad or just has bad luck, they can hit a nerve or have to retry multiple times, causing bruising and pain and, if they are really really bad, nerve damage that may impact fingers. Just like taking a plane trip and having the plane fall is not the typical experience, you are 99.9% likely to just go through it without a single issue, although as I said the perfectly honest answer is that, rarely, things can go wrong.
If you are getting your blood drawn, you are going to know a lot of parameters of your body that are important to know if something else is wrong, on a deeper level. Probably going to be ok in this regard as well, but would be silly to not catch something early just because you didn’t want to do the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this exam. Some conditions can do a lot of damage if not caught (like diabetes) and are easily managed if caught by blood work. I’d just relax, millions of blood draws are done every day in the world. Just don’t be afraid to immediately speak if you feel electric pain (a nerve is getting hit). Otherwise, it’s a 30 seconds procedure. Hi. It’s sharp for like a second. You can request local anaesthetic cream or a spray (my daughter calls it magic spray.) If you are worried, I’d recommend that. But honestly, you will be fine. I used to be on medication which required a blood test every week, and I will honestly say it completely depends on the skill of the nurse with the needle.
9 times out of 10 I bearly felt the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this needle going in and on some rare occassions where I hit the jackpot and got my favourite nurse I felt nothing. The 1 time out of 10 where it did hurt it was pretty much a sharp pinch on my arm, nothing that would ruin my day. I used to have a very bad phobia of needles, but after spending a week in hospital where I was basically used as a pin cushion got me over that fear. Personally I have issues with it due to a bad experience when I was a child, some nurses that don’t do it as often may not be as good. The way I’ve managed to get better with it is to make sure I am hydrated and have eaten, this makes your veins a bit easier for them to see. I know it’s not as positive as other responses but I thought it worth you getting the other perspective and how I’ve been able to get past it. The pinch is the same as one of the less painful shots (so, barely hurts). Then having your blood drawn is, to me, not really “painful”. More of just an unpleasent and strange sensation. It’s not a pleasurable experiance, but it’s nothing to get worried about either. Considering you’re scared enough to make this post, I promise you the anticipation you’re feeling is worse than the actual thing. I hate blood work and find if I look away and the nurse drawing the blood is good I don’t even notice it. If they aren’t the best you will feel a small sting when the needle goes in but it’s not bad.
Just look away and get your mind thinking of something else. It will be over fast and you’ll feel silly for being worried. Pain is relative. Would you rather feel the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this small pinprick from the anaesthetic at the dentist or the drilling? It hurts less than getting a shot. If you’re worried about it tell the nurse and they’ll help you but I have had it done like 2 or 3 times and it’s really not that bad at all. Ask if they have Emla cream. It’s a topical anesthesia they can give you, they apply it, put a bandage over it, and it takes about 15 minutes to work. For me, it’s just an ache. It’s an ache that’s most intense when the needle is first inserted, and it aches mildly, but you don’t feel the blood leaving your body, and once the needle is taken out, the nurse just puts a cotton swab and a plaster/band aid on to keep it in place. The bloods are usually taken from the inside of your elbow—the veins are nice and big and near the surface there! It can be very mildly sore for about half an hour bending your elbow, but honestly, it’s really not much at all. I actually used to have a huge needle phobia because I always had a bad response to them—I’d pass out, basically. Turns out I’m now being investigated for POTS—my autonomic nervous system doesn’t work properly and that contributed to my reaction. Now what I do, is keep as calm as I can. I see the procedure as just a formality, just as simple as awaiting for a food order to arrive or queueing up at the store (although, that’s a bad example—standing in a queue flares me up but getting my bloods taken is a walk in the park compared to standing still). I get called in, and I sit relaxed in the chair, relax my arm until they tell me to clench my fist (gets the veins to pop up), they do the tourniquet and I watch my clinically stretchy skin get all wrinkled from it, then I watch them prep the needle. By this point, I’m moving my feet slowly to keep the blood from pooling in my legs. Then, I just keep up with the slow and steady breathing, and I watch. Some people can’t watch, but for me, watching means it’s not a shock when the needle goes in, and I can see how much longer it’s going to take. Before I know it, it’s over and I’m completely fine.
Heads up though—if you’re anxious, sometimes the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this blood just won’t come out. So, they’ll have to re-insert the needle in a different place. Not fun! So, keep calm, relax, because honestly, it’s not half as bad as it is in your head. I actually got over my needle phobia within two days in hospital, and when I have bloods, I’m almost excited—because not only can I cope with something I never thought I could cope with, but having bloods taken is a good thing. It means that if something isn’t quite right in my body, they can find out, and if my bloods are good, I feel reassured. Also, hydrate beforehand! If you’re not hydrated, your veins might be a bit too narrow, and I personally find the same if I’m cold. So make sure you’re wrapped up warm beforehand, drink plenty of water, maybe swing your arms whilst you walk to get the blood flowing, and just remember: it really doesn’t suck as much as it sounds like it’ll suck, and it’s quite boring actually. It’s just a hollow needle, they push it in gentle because they don’t want to damage your vein, then they attach the vial and the blood trickles in, then before you know it, they’re patching you up and you’re out of the door with a mildly sore arm. For reference, it hurts way less than a papercut for me.
Also, if ever you have to have an injection—ask them to do it slowly! They hurt wayyyy less when the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this fluid is injected slowly. And I never passed out from a slow injection but a fast jab always made me pass out. No they don’t hurt. Work on trusting your parents about this stuff more. They are correct. You don’t want to grow up to be a hypochondriac. Does it hurt? Yes, a little bit. Word of advice: It will hurt a whole lot less if you are relaxed vs. tense. That’s why the Drs. always tell you it won’t hurt, so you relax. A small needle is used, it really isn’t nothing to worry about. Just make sure you are hydrated by drinking plenty of water beforehand to make it easier for the blood to be drawn. If you are squeamish about needles, look away. Make sure you are relaxed as well because if your body is tensed up, it may hurt a little, so look away so you don’t see the needle and think about something else while it’s all happening. The needle itself will feel like a mosquito stinging you. Having a blood test won’t take long and it will all be over before you know it. You really don’t have a thing to worry about.
I love having blood taken, especially at the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this elbow. It’s a sharp, quick, hot, acidic, and very manageable pain. A bit like having an upper lip wax but better. Enjoy! There is a sharp sting when the needle is inserted, but it eases off very quickly. The drawing of the blood only takes a few seconds, depending how much they need. Taking the tape off the cotton bud covering where they took blood from is more uncomfortable! As long as they know what they’re doing, it’s nothing more than a pinch. I hate needles though so it’s a bit worse for me. What I do is relax my arm and look away. If the phlebotomist/nurse is nice, I’ll talk to them as well. Helps keep my mind off the needle Most of the people who have drawn my blood have done it so quickly I blinked and it was done. If there’s any pain it’s a fast pinch. What will help is to tell them you’re scared. Even adults are scared of needles ( my husband hates them). Have your parents communicate that to them too. There are people who specialize in working with nervous people and kids. You’ll get past this! I know I’m a bit late, and I’m not a doctor or anything, but I used to have blood tests something like twice a year until it was discovered I have Hemochromatosis (which results in my getting blood tests much more regularly, as well as phlebotomies). If it hurts as much as getting your flu shot, that’s essentially the worst case scenario you’re realistically looking at. Sometimes veins are hard to find, and if it’s particularly troublesome or the professional slightly misses, it’ll be sore of a little bit and bruise up, but that’s pretty much the worst of it. 9/10 it’ll hurt less than the flu shot. TL;Dr: if you’ve received the tetanus vaccine, blood standard tests are as high adrenaline as a napping sloth. You’ve got this!
Well, okay, i am gonna be the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this odd one out, but for me personally, getting stung hurts like nothing else, and i have to be sedated before it is possible (massive thank you to the guys who invented EMLA -plaster and halcion!), most people are fine, i however feel very lied to about it not hurting… Edit: saw some other comments, wanted to add, it is just the past two times i have sedated, otherwise i have went unsedated, in my adult life (been jabbed i think 5 times since turning adult) i have always requested to be blindfolded though since i have an immense fear of doctors aswell, and before, never dared to look, again, unless pre-sedated, hurts like an absolute mf, no matter how good my doc has been in the eyes of others….
When they tie the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this band on your arm, just look away and try to stay relaxed. The tech will let you know when it might hurt. If you work yourself up into a frenzy, it will hurt more. Stay calm and breath through the discomfort and it will be over with in a jiffy. The pain is very temporary, it should be bearable. For like a half a second it will feel like you’re being pinched by somebody with long nails. There is pain but it’s very mild and goes away instantly. I’m actually afraid of needles (irrationally so), but will concede that the drawing of blood does not hurt. It is uncomfortable plus a bit and not for long. I also tend to pass out at the sight of blood so I don’t recommend looking at the draw. I do recommend a distraction though, have the nurse tell you a story or you tell them a story. It helps loads! Also, it will be ok, yes the first time it’s scary because you don’t have a reference point. You will do fine, and you can ask to lie down if it makes you feel better. Also don’t rip the bandaid off later, that hurts way worse than the blood draw. Gently remove it with oil if you have some.
It’s something you feel for a few seconds and then it’s done – the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this build-up is worse because that’s much longer than the test itself. When I go for a blood test I make sure I’m well hydrated right before and also that I’m not feeling cold as that means your veins aren’t as close to the surface of your skin. I might jiggle and pat my arm to warm it up just before I go for the test so there’s a better chance they’ll be able to get what they need (idk how effective it is but it helps me mentally prepare at least). Make sure they’re taking it from your non-dominant arm, especially if you’re left-handed as that’s often the arm they’ll aim for! It might be a bit stiff and achy afterwards so you don’t want them to take from your dominant arm.
For the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this test itself just relax, don’t look, chat to the nurse or play your favourite song in your head and it’ll be over in a flash. You got this! Depends on the phlebotomist. I’ve had pros poke me and be done without feeling much of anything and I’ve had hacks feel like they are killing me. Nah, it’s an extremely mild pinch. The problem is if they don’t find your vein after a while they’ll have to chop your head off and get it from there, which is an inconvenience. The upside is that voice regocnition software is very good nowadays and you can continue posting here as if nothing had happened. They usually do hurt for a second or two, it’s like a sharp scratch. The person drawing the blood will probably have done it hundreds, if not thousands of times, so trust in their competence to do the job.
I used to absolutely hate blood tests. What I found was that the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this pain was worse when I was looking away, as I didn’t know when the needle would go in and that ramped up my anxiety. I found watching the needle go into my arm lessens any pain there might be. It might help to drink a pint or two of warm water an hour or so before. I was advised to drink water by my nurse, who said it helps dilate my veins and aid blood circulation. I also wear gloves and a loose fitting, long sleeved shirt with an undershirt. The warmer my hands and arms are, the more likely it is for a good vein to come up, which makes drawing blood a quicker task, and if they can’t get it from my arms, there’ll be a spare vein in my hand that’s dilated enough for them to use. It might help to take a few deep breaths in and out just before the needle goes in, to try to relax your body a little. In my experience, that helps with the pain. You can tell the nurse you’re nervous, and ask them to use a butterfly needle, which is the smallest size.
But even if the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this nurse uses a long needle that looks enormous, they won’t push the whole thing into your arm, so try not to panic if they use a standard size. The whole process should be over in less than a minute. I don’t think so. I’m scared of needles, but the last time I got one, I wasn’t looking and was very surprised when they said they were done, as I thought they hadn’t started since I’d felt nothing fwiw, the last time, I’d built up the pain factor to be this huge ordeal level 10 thing, but the reality was, it was only a level 2 issue (if that makes sense) I was terrified of them, so much so that I refused to have a blood test until I eventually had no choice when I turned about 28. Since then, I’ve had probably 20 blood tests and honestly, it’s nothing. It’s a tiny pin prick pinch that lasts less than a second as it goes in, thats it. My advice is just don’t look, it’s over within 30 seconds tops and 29 of them you feel nothing at all.
Yes they do hurt, but it’s for less than 2 seconds. It’s a pinch and it is painful, but once the That’s what I do I garden I play with chickens and I forget things shirt also I will do this needle is in you can’t even feel it. I personally think stubbing your toe is far more painful. I had blood tests frequently when I was going through chemotherapy. The pain will vary depending on how hydrated you are, and the skill of the person drawing the blood. Make sure to drink plenty of water at least an hour before your appointment. Even with a poorly skilled nurse taking your blood, the pain is not unbearable. With a skilled nurse you may not even feel anything at all. Theyll put an elastic around your arm, scrub the crook of your arm, needle in and then theyll pop on a couple different vials, remove the elastic, remove the needle with a cotton ball or gauze over it and put a peice of tape or bandage over the gauze. Its over super quick. I used to be afraid of getting one till I had to…doesn’t hurt…feels like a pinch. One tip tho…if you’re getting in in your left arm, take your right arm and try pinching/scratching your right leg and focus on the sensation you’re creating. It dampens the discomfort you’ll feel from your left/injected arm because your brain is getting signals from both sides instead of one. Good luck!
