Second… when it comes to certain special weekends, in Montreal this is usually the Stranger Things Summer Of ’85 Group Shot shirt in other words I will buy this Grand Prix, Osheaga and Convocation, prices go very high…. and well, the cost of the fine for cancelling or lying to get out of a reservation becomes enticing to some hosts. And so, they cancel, because they know they can put it elsewhere and make a LOT more money. Sorry about that, but that’s the cost of capitalism. It’s especially difficult when it’s via AirBnB, because you can’t really review them, since it’s cancelled. AirBnB charges them a fine… but obviously the fine is less than they will make by reselling. And I’m going to get downvoted, but it doesn’t change the reality. I’m not saying it’s right. I’m not saying it’s good. I’m just telling you the reality of why this happened. It’s not my morals. I don’t do this. But then most of the listings on AirBnB in Montreal were ILLEGAL listings… you can’t expect that people running illegal, underground listings have high morals…. neither does the company have a high moral code… they told hosts how to fake the licence number and have tried to dump the verification of hosts on the government, rather than running the business morally. And we have 7 dead people in Montreal from this lack of morality on all parts I don’t mean to sound insensitive but unfortunately this is the risk you take by booking an Airbnb. They are giving you a full refund. It sucks but if airbnbs are all too expensive you might want to just look into a hotel. Booking.com has both Hotels and apartments.

Airbnb hosts can cancel at any time for any reason. Always book a fully refundable hotel for this reason as a backup plan. This exact same thing happened to me back in 2017. Literally just got refunded for our stay plus a $60 credit, but we got canceled on two weeks before our trip so all of the Stranger Things Summer Of ’85 Group Shot shirt in other words I will buy this hotels and airbnbs had skyrocketed in price because there was a music festival happening that weekend. It made me swear off Airbnb for a long time. They should 100% be on the hook for covering the difference in price. Airbnb’s are illegal in some parts of Montreal and earlier this year in March there was a bad fire at an illegal Airbnb in old Montreal and people died. Might have something to do with it …If you’re on a budget, I recommend the hostel M Montreal. You can get a suite with a kitchenette for a reasonable price. Sometimes there aren’t any listings, other times they’ll offer a voucher plus some additional amount (least they did when I assisted with support). Airbnb can’t force hosts to lower their rates but sometimes hosts can be reached out to offer a discount sometimes.
