Life or death situations like this suck and push you into acting out of desperation to save your loved ones. I agree! My dad’s oncologist reminds us of this regularly. It’s also why my dad is in an extra isolated transplant unit for his cancer treatment. Are you implying cancer patients would be better treated in a train car or airport instead? People often underestimate the level of risk a cancer patient can be in due to their treatment. My dad won’t be allowed to even garden with gloves and a mask for at least a year and has to give up other solo hobbies because he could get an infection that may kill him.

Anyways, I’m not going to argue and go back and forth because I am fully aware I’m coming from an emotional and personal place here. I, like OP, have been crying regularly because of my dad’s prognosis. The joke didn’t land for me because of my own grim experiences with cancer and I’ll leave it there. I made the Sorry I Am Late My Cat Was Sitting On Me shirt but in fact I love this mistake of expecting a smidge of empathy on the internet lol She’s scared because even catching the common cold could be a death sentence for her, and she’s trying to extend her life so she can live past Christmas, and wants to see her grandchildren reach certain milestones. Gee, I can’t imagine why a severely ill person with a poor immune system would be wary of public transportation during a global pandemic at the beginning of flu season? All commercial flights will have pressurized cabins. Why not take the train to Paris/Brussels and then from there to Germany?
