I had a coworker who spent time working in Saudi. I lived there for a bit but was too young to really remember much of it. My (Canadian) grandparents live there for a while working for Bell Telephone. Granted this was a long time ago, but if you were caught displaying any sort of affection towards each other publicly and an officer saw you, they would apparently wack you on your ankles with sticks. My grandma only ever went from the compound to the markets and back, always with a driver and a man and always covered up. They spoke really fondly of their time there. I have all sorts of trinkets like golden camel table decor and things like that.

Not OP but my grandfather worked for ARAMCO back in the Some People Call Me Crazy Skull Classic Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this 70s. Story goes he was out with some Saudis and their car crashed in the desert and he was the only one who died. The circumstances were mysterious and my mom and her family had to leave the country within 24 hours. To this day I think he was purposefully killed. My mom was only 4 or 5 at the time, but she has pictures from the compound. It seriously looks like some Fallout pre-apocolypse suburb. It was like an ideal american community. A couple years ago she randomly ran into someone from the same compound and had been attending meetups for people who grew up over there. They have some group on facebook and go by the “ARAMCO brats” Her story sounds so similar to that of my ex that I almost contacted her to congratulate her on her marriage, haha. Haha you never know but we’ve been married for eight years and together for 12. She lived there very late 80’s-2000
